"The Protector" Starring Tony Jaa (or however spell his name) It's definitely an underrated movie but if you like this, also check out Thai Warrior. They're far greater than anything any American film could produce. And I'm American B)
>>
>>1168958
According to the production staff it was a 4 minute long take with some light CG for different props they couldn't replace easily. They did prep for over a month and could only do two takes a day, apparently getting this version in 5.

I haven't gone through to see if there are any actual cuts but it's not entirely unreasonable. It's the only real big setpiece sequence in the movie if I remember right.

There are a handful of places it would've been easy to make a cut, however, so it's just a matter of trusting the film crew's word or not.

Always find it funny watching these kinds of movies where its like 30 guys against the protagonist and most of the guys go down after a single push into a bookcase or getting a chair pushed into someones leg.
then the fights at the end of the movies always have it as a 1v1 fight where both guys are going full out with blood everywhere and breaking each others bones and cutting each other on glass or with knifes and basically ending with both guys barely even able to stand but still fighting

probably because the camera orbits around them without any cuts for like 4.5 minutes straight in that scene. It starts to look reminiscent of a boxing videogame as it goes on:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hh1_P_b0DCQ

It also probably has something to do with the "smart" way that digital movie cameras nowadays clean up the motion blur for optimal 24fps viewing.

None of it was actually on greenscreen though, you can see how they filmed it here: https://youtu.be/bj2mK60pJ4w?t=127

garbage my ass, the CGI looks fine. How else would they shoot a big sweeping shot of two enormous dinosaurs for a fight scene like that, anyway?

The only thing I can understand people being autistic over with the CGI (assuming they aren't people who just hate all CGI everywhere) is how the dinosaurs always kill and fight so over-dramatically, like with cheesy movie monsters. Like how so much of the (theorized) realism in their behavior is thrown out the window to make everything more action-y and cinematic. It's not the CG dinos themselves that look unrealistic - its the animations that the director chose to make those CG dinos do (webm).

But I mean whatever, JW is the late fourth movie in a franchise that everyone thought was dead. It's trying to be a dumb fun summer blockbuster like Aliens or T2; not to get Best Picture for being some realistic dinosaur island survival story. I personally enjoyed it a lot

You just compared it to two much better sequels. Those are both movies that many people have argued are better than their predecessor.

Indiana Jones 4 would be a much better comparison. Good cheap pop-corn movie, but doesn't live up to the original.

neither do TLW or JP3. I can't understand how anyone can say they are better than JW. At least Indiana Jones 2 - 3 were great movies. The Lost World and Jurassic Park III suffered from two of the worst cases of sequel syndrome I've ever seen in a blockbuster series.

What a load of shit. I made all of the webms you quoted and the only thing objectively bad about the Winter Soldier one is the ugly CGI texturing on the shield. Other than that, both scenes look great even with their considerable stylistic differences. TWS is barely even that shaky compared to say The Bourne Supremacy, and all the other fight scenes in The Protector have frequent use of cuts anyway because using cuts in a fight scene is a standard fucking practice:
https://youtu.be/WSmMJukdBYQ?t=48

All that matters in the end is that the object of the audience's attention (for example, how a fighter's footwork gives them an advantage) is plainly shown on the screen and in focus, even if only for a split second. You show the choreography. Long take fights are cool, but they do not work everywhere and are not appropriate for every type of fight.

And yeah, Chris Evans actually does a shitload of his own stunts in the CA movies (any time you can recognize his face , it's actually him doing it). Pretty much everyone in The Protector scene is a professional stuntman, however (including Tony Jaa himself), and this is the real reason why the Tony Jaa fights look better.

If you want to complain about fake looking Western fight scenes, you really should be talking about movies like Guardians of the Galaxy - not TWS.

indeed. Most pro stuntmen come in knowing some form of martial arts already. What's best is when a great stuntman also turns out to be a good actor, but that is very rare. Usually the best stuntmen just play generic bad guys for the protagonist to fight. But it's also good when an actor is dedicated enough to actually learn their own stunts.

I hate that "shaky cam" has become this go-to insult for handheld cam. Handheld cam is a tool that many good choreographers use. Just because you watched that one video about how Jackie Chan does his action does not mean it works well for every scene.

In fact, its become cliche how overused and fellated oners have become. You talk to anyone about Daredevil and all of a sudden its about the long cut of the hallway scene. Long cuts require that there be no impact as to not make the actor tire out. I mean just look at all the dudes that just fall down with a breeze in the webms you replied to.

How did the raptors get out of the first movie? Climbed out the top of the enclosure when the power went out.

Jurassic World: Hey we created a super hybrid dinosaur after 20 years of learning from our mistakes. Let's put it in a big enclosure where the top is open so we assume it escaped when we can't see it. 23 years since the original and that's the best plot they can come up with.

Being a weeaboo is different from taking artistic influence in his cartooning or, in the case of the animated series, actively emulating anime in a genre that in the West has if anything retrograded since the days of the Simpsons and the Critic (South Park by design was cheap once digitized, Family Guy was truly sub-par animation that set a low bar for everyone, and Adult Swim specialized in cheapo -- the only good stuff was in the childrens tv, but nobody's wanted to pay to produce that kind of animation for the adult market).

they weren't being unreasonable in assuming it had escaped. The dinosaur managed to hide from both their optical AND thermal cameras inside the pen, while also tricking the humans into thinking it somehow scaled the impossibly high walls via the scratches it put in them. They did not know it could hide from their thermal cameras, nor did they think that it could be anywhere near smart enough to trick them like that. That evil bastard Dr Wu wouldn't even tell what DNA they used in creating it.

I-Rex had human-tier intelligence. It shouldn't have known that it had a tracker embedded in its body. Nor should it have known that it needed to hide from thermal technology to escape (or especially that it needed to hide this ability from the humans until it had an opportunity to surprise them with it). But somehow it knew all this

That's precisely why it seems so stupid that they wouldn't enclose it in a way similar to the raptors
or the rest of the dinosaurs for that matter
in the first film, with a fully encircling, 100 foot tall highly electrified fence.

In the original film the raptor enclosure has a wall, with electrified fence on top that only has a small window at the very highest point for them to winch cows in to feed the raptors.

In JW the I-Rex is know to have at least raptor level intelligence and yet all the scientists and ranger s treat it as though it should be a lot stupider than it is. The intelligence of park staff deteriorates between films. This is what turned me off of it. The fact that the people running it weren't being smarter about it than the first film. they were just using more magic technology to try and trick the audience into thinking they were being smarter about it.

All the JP movies have this theme about man's hubris and about trying to control nature, and the humans _always_ lose in the end (with the leads and the kids getting away).
This is what happened in Jurassic World. I don't know what else you were expecting from the movie. The walls were more than high enough to contain the I.Rex, so that wasn't an actual design flaw. The problem was the staff did not know what they were dealing with with the I.Rex, because the evil Chinese scientist man kept that information confidential.

>they were just using more magic technology to try and trick the audience into thinking they were being smarter about it.
Literally nobody says Jurassic World is smarter than Jurassic Park, and it doesn't try to be. It's a dumb sequel. You remember that scene where Chris Pratt is riding motorcycles with the raptors? Yeah
I'm just saying it's a much better sequel than TLW or JP3. At least it's fun

Watching the movie, every time Creed was meant to get hit, he'd drop both his hands and stand still or walk directly into a punch; I'd get my ass kicked, 0 debates on that, but after a while it was pretty ridiculous, when you could see every "big" hit coming a mile away.
>>
>>1187819
Yeah I noticed that too, but I never expected MBJ/Creed to fight like a real boxer because, frankly, he's not one. He is just an actor.
Also, the choreoghaphy is sub-par in that scene compared to in the rest of the film because they had to film it all in one 4-and-a-half minute take. Even so, it still looks way better than the choreography in any other boxing movie - particularly compared to the early Rocky films and stuff like Raging Bull. Balboa was a step forward in terms of realism, but Creed is on top.

this movie was directed by two stuntmen who only got the job because Keanu Reeves immediately thought of them when he read and accepted the script. The main director guy was Neo's stunt double in The Matrix.

I honestly thought they did a really good job for what kind of movie they were going for with John Wick. My only real complaints are about the use of CGI. What the fuck happened to squibs? I can't think of a single person who thinks CGI bloodsplatter looks better than an exploding squib (CGI blood almost ruins the scene in >>1171722 )
>>
>>1187830
That scene was bad, but every scene it happens; like when Creed has his fight against the guy he loses his car to (the guy he fights last? I can't remember now), he does all right, then just drops both hands and just stares as he gets haymakered.

he didn't drop his hands; he got counter-punched in the face when he wildly missed a left hook.

Only a few times did I think it looked obvious that MBJ was leaving himself open to be hit - every time during the long-take fight scene. And the problem was always just with MBJ; his opponents fighting always looked extremely realistic (probably because they were actual pro boxers)

this looks just like the fighting in Dead or Alive, only live-action. Especially with the rising kick combo at ~17 seconds. My friends and I used to exploit the hell out of rising kicks in DoA3 to narrowly snatch the win from eachother (followed by smugly remarking about how the other player was simply out-skilled by "dem low-kicks")

DoA is actually a really fun game when you play against a friend and you both pick to be a random-character with a random stage (so it switches every rematch). The titties are just a very nice bonus.

THANK YOU I HATE IT. It ruins any tension oor build up for me because it's so obvious it's CGI splatter, even when it's well done. Sure early movies like 80s/90s squibs look like overkill red paint but the ones that bleed the right amount and colour look great.

Bigger problem is that this is taken from the shitty stereo version that came out years later instead of the mono it originally was that didn't have all the guns sounding like queefs.

not sure if sarcastic or serious.

Judge Dredd ONLY ever frowns. Stallone fucked the 90's version up by having things called "emotions". Dredd's only emotion is JUDGEMENT.

i don't see any referees or a government regulated sanctioned and licensed fight going on.

confirmed for having never been in a fight in your life. the aggressor was clearly looking for a fight (runs into the frame punches two people unprovoked) and he got it. these guys probably had a pint together afterward. no head stomping and beat down after the KO's. just boys being boys.

It's such a shame. If it weren't for the people he blatantly killed before and after this scene, this would be exactly what I want from a cinematic Batman.

I actually like that part. It looks like he's holding his own even on the ground.
