I think it helps that America is one of, like, ten nations where the national anthem is about a concept rather than a person/monarchy or religion. So even if you don't like the US you can still enjoy performances of the anthem due to its conceptual and ideological nature rather than it being like, "oh george washington was a great fellow," type deal.

I bet there was some high tension electrical wires in the area. That sounds exactly like them when you hit them really hard with something. The vibrations ripple back and forth making that weird noise that comes and goes like a weird echo. There's even an instrument that uses that effect, but it uses a spring in order to have more material in a shorter distance.

Performances:

Physicly no. You right.

Technycly. Yes just for the purpose of orientetion.

Imagin space ships have sensors. Each signal has its own sound.

Just for this reason.>>1038828

Its faster then reading or ai telling you whats happening.

With 7.1 sound you even get a heading before seeing or reading the info.

Its more of a orientation help then a real thing.

You like vacum sound?

In mwo are a few space maps. In 3rd person no sound in 1st person only muffeld sound transferd throu the structure of your mech.

Would you rather play a space sim with 100% no sound at all?
Also, they have a reason for sound. Everything you hear is your ship's on board computer running speakers inside the cockpit, it's supposed to give the pilot better feedback with audio ques. The Fog horn sound from capital ships is the ship broadcasting the loud sound to intimidate others.

Europe doesn't have any trouble with nudity
Only your niggers throw a shitfit when there's talk about slavery
You've got communist and socialist countries everywhere
Few countries try to get everyone a gun
Fuck just look at Japan or SA and tell me they has the same vallues as the USA
There's a fuckton things wrong in that staatement, but the worst of them all is that you need to reassure yourself that every country is exactly like yours in order to feel powerful instead of valuating and appreciating the way it's own history has shaped it's values. The very moment you believe everyone to have your very same values youare opening yourself to being influenced by them without understanding them.

Battlefield 3, haven't played it but from what I've seen it's more casual CoD fps shit. They oversaturate and simplify everything, including flight, to make it seem great but it's really not. For an actually good flight sim look at Il-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover or most DCS modules. The more advanced modern planes are really hard to get into if you're not a sim pro, so start with WWII simply by virtue of them not having all the complex electronics.

If you actually want it more casual play Battlefield II Project Reality mod, or ARMA II/III. Both are very good but flight is simple.

The first shot was an RPG. You can hear the RPG fire before the rocket approaches because it moves slower than the speed of sound. You'll never hear the tank/take shell before it approaches because it moves faster than the speed of sound, hence the impact before the sound
>>
>>1039453
>Also, they have a reason for sound. Everything you hear is your ship's on board computer running speakers inside the cockpit, it's supposed to give the pilot better feedback with audio ques. The Fog horn sound from capital ships is the ship broadcasting the loud sound to intimidate others.

So the guns use radar to detect incoming artillery or mortar fire and then shoot the incoming projectiles in mid air with HE rounds?
>>
>>1040275
That's the idea. They can shoot at planes, boats and missiles too, and they're commonly deployed on ships. On ships they're generally the last defense if because they carry missiles to stop incoming missiles and aircraft. They also have a fairly limited range, and hitting an approaching missile is really difficult (missiles move at speeds of thousands of miles per hour)
>>
>>1040289
That's fucking rad
>>
>>1039765
That's not how physics works
>>
>>1040275
almost. the first part is entirely correct (plus the automated siren is part of the radar detection) but they shoot with normal bullets (and tracers as this poster mentioned >>1040173)

the HE rounds is the guy at the end shouting "get me some fucking HE rounds" - basically they want to use their own artillery to shell the positions of the mortars. the auto-miniguns are just against the projectiles, now they want to take out the guys who shot them.

>>1040289
those are two different systems. automated missile systems are something like a Sea Sparrow (at sea) or Patriot batteries (on land, used against Scuds in Iraq for example). minigun systems are Phalanx CIWS and the likes. the rest is true. especially that all these guided minigun systems literally operate on "spray and pray".

>>
>>1039027
Because most people just have headphones and don't give a shit.
>>
>>1040475
I think this is correct. The rocket essentially causes a larger dissociation between the atmosphere and the planet. Basically, if both were spinning together, if pointed towards the west, the earth would now be spinning a bit faster, and the atmosphere (pushed by the jet of the rocket), a bit slower. At that point, the atmosphere would exert drag onto the earth, and re-equilibrate the earth velocity to the norm. So, you end up with having the earth spin faster for a teeny bit, shortening the day.

Now, the far cooler implication, is the fact we can change the location of the geographic pole permanently if we point the rocket north or south.
>>
>>1040383
I study astrophysics, and Cassini is a wonderful mission that has kept giving. But results in planetary science are not comparable to the fundamental impact CERN has had on the understanding of particle and nuclear physics and the standard model. It is a fact that CERN is the most ambitious scientific project ever devised. Why did you pick Cassini in particular? There are many missions and projects that were far more ambitious: moon landing, Voyager probes, New Horizons, IceCube...

Your explanation is almost there, but a little wrong too. Rockets do not work like fans by pushing the atmosphere, or else they couldn't work in space, where there is no air! They have combustible on board, and by igniting it, all the molecules of the combustible are shot at high speed away from the rocket. By Newton's 3rd law of motion, this causes the rocket to gain momentum. Here, the rocket is instead the Earth. So while you would need an insane amount of combustible to make the Earth go faster or slower significantly, it does affect the rotation of the Earth.
>>1040490
The effect is permanent. The axis precession does not alter the spin rate of the Earth. However this effect would be dwarfed by the tidal interactions between the Moon and the Earth that cause the Earth to slow down.

It's amusing that we're advocating for our each others fields here. I guess the term "ambitious" is a little vague. It is the most expensive scientific project ever for one. But Cassini, New Horizons, Voyager, the Moon landings etc. only tell us something about what's going on in our solar system. WMAP, Planck ST and COBE probed the very parameters of our universe, which is already more impactful in my opinion. But experiments like the LHC and other fundamental physics research create the base on which cosmology and astrophysics can develop. We would know jack shit about the Universe if it wasn't for a strong understanding of physics in the first place. That's why I think understanding the fundamental forces of the universe and associated particles is really the root of our understanding of our world, and that what LHC is trying to figure out. Don't you agree?

I actually want shift and go on for a PhD in particle physics. How is it in nuclear physics? What kind of research do you know? I'm curious!

>Your explanation is almost there
Nope, you're wrong. I'm well aware that the rocket is not a fan. However, the point stands. The exhaust, which you pointed out moves at a very high speed in the opposite direction due to Newton's 3rd law, becomes a part of the atmosphere. As such, you ARE moving the atmosphere in the opposite direction. Unless the exhaust was leaving the earth-atmosphere system into space, the net rotational inertia of said system MUST be conserved.

>The effect is permanent
