>dem feels
I'm 32 and I just recently opened up to a psychologist about the bullying I suffered when I was under 10. Wasn't exactly sexual abuse, but close. It was the first time I talked about it to anyone. I've been living in numbness and fear the past ~25 years, but now I'm beginning to feel things - good, bad, and terrible. But I feel I can get better.

Is feeling preferable to numbness? Not trying to be edgy, but if you really did have psychopathic levels of emotionless that would probably be preferable to the intense down swings that came before you reached that point. Obviously anyone would miss joy but it sounds to me like a completely without emotion, while numb and somewhat hollow, would be preferable to the intense despair that you might be reopening yourself up to.

That's the wrong meme. Wojak is the wagecuck NEET wannabe living as a pseudo-normie. You would be looking for a sad frog image to do that correctly.

While I agree that wojak's typical and most authentic portrayal is as the >tfw no gf failed normie wage slave, I don't believe that bars him from an early life as a basement dwelling outcast constantly reprimanded by his family for poor grades, no social life, and a desire to do nothing but live his life online.

I didn't make this meme, but I feel that this is an instance where wojak or sad pepe can be used interchangeable, and lets not pretend that pepe hasn't been completely normified. It's true that his newest incarnation as the conductor of the Trump train has brought him back from total normification but he's only just barely avoided doge levels of recognition and reference on social media and in life generally.

Anon, I was a bully all through middle school and high school and it eats me alive when I think about it. I didn't do it because it was fun, I did it because I hated myself and I projected that hatred onto those around me. I wish I could take it all back and find the people I bullied and apologize for the harm that I caused, but I can't, and thats what eats me the most. I'm glad that you got passed your scars, and I wish I could take all the pain that people like me caused.

this just comes off as cringe worthy edge desu. Being told by other people you don't matter in this manner doesn't provide any sort of melancholy, rather it instinctively brings out the argumentative traits in us and leads to some shitty dialogue of the value of people based on their human connections.

Maybe when your mom plopped you out into the world, she expected that she would have gone through the excruciating pain of child birth in the hope that you would flourish under her parenting into a person with worth and purpose, as opposed to sitting in a chair, knowingly wasting what little time you have on pointless hedonism, a constant reminder that she completely failed as a human being, contributing only another net drain on society and the rest of the world.
Maybe your dad hoped that the time he spent at work, using his time to feed you and nourish your desires, and putting up with your mother in marriage, or in the fallout of divorce would lead to you becoming someone with integrity whom he would be proud to call "my son".
A guy that even he could look up to, whom he saw himself in and whom he cherished and treasured even if the feeling wasn't reciprocated.
But who gives a fuck, they're your dumbass cockhole parents right?
You and your anime, and your recycled opinions, and your truly meaningless existence, that you dare not make any attempt to change, or strive towards anything better in, you know better than those old fucks don't you?
Yeah, fuck em.
>>

what show is it?
>>
>>1029751
Hedonism instantly loses its rational as the purpose for existence if the person develops a mindset which prevents them from enjoying any of the pleasantries in life. It also doesn't explain the phenomenon which occur only to bring destruction and pain like earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, disease, or mental decay.

I recognise that I am a failure to my parents. I spend time with complete strangers I will never meet talking about things that in the grand scheme of things are momentary distractions from my insignificant existence.

There are times where I take a detour from my drive home and go to the lakefront. I look around and I see birds and the waves and hear the sound of the lake, and I just stare at it for maybe an hour, before I pack my things and get into my car and drive back home and resume my sad little life.

I go to college, I watch my peers, and all they do is stand glued to their phones. They laugh and giggle together but they're all glued to these little black squares. They can't put them down. They can't pay attention. They do poorly in a class with exams where half the answers are "all the above". They inevitably ask for help from the nerdy kid who sits at the very front, somehow capable of resisting the temptation of looking at the black box for 50 minutes.

Seemingly all of our existence, all of our social interactions, are glued to these plastic boxes. What is it then that makes these people so special from me? How we use the fucking box?

We're all escapists. We use these boxes to fill the empty voids in our lives and distract us from the inevitable silence that comes from being alone. We've gotten to the point where we cannot fathom being alone, because the eventual introspection would lead us to realize that our shit stinks, and that requires a rationalization that we've made mistakes and our pride would never allow us to deflate our egos like that.

We'd rather talk to likeminded friends and hear the things we want to hear, and slowly drift off into our own little bubbles.

The difference is, I know I am doing it consciously.

I know there's others like me, but the very nature of our thought process is what keeps us apart.

On the other hand, if you're ever in Chicago and want to chill with a lonely Anon, by all means I'm willing to talk.

The whole point of human existence is socialization you stupid fuck.
Didn't you watch Evangelion?
What the fuck, this post is so pseudo-intellectual and depressing, as is you know anything about what's outside your stupid fucking Community College classroom you absolute cunt.
So fucking dumb.
The reason people are on this path and on their phones is because they want to reach their goal of becoming more social and learning new things, trying new things, but instead you just pretend like it's you're only "escape from reality" to sit on your fat ass because somehow you are better than them.
Protip: You're not and you're an idiot for thinking so.
>>
>>1032906
Evangelion wasn't about socializing. No idea where you got that from. I'm not the guy you're replying to, but if you seriously think people sitting looking at fucking snap chats for hours is becoming more social you are a retard. I work in an area of a college where we have many student workers. Every time they have free time they pull out their phones and just look at stupid shit and do not socialize with each other. This is how this generation is.
>>
>>1032906
Keep in mind that I had to edit my post due to the 2000 character limit.

I never intended to claim thatbI was better than them, but the opposite is always true. We're always looked down for not socializing, for not being like them....yet we're all slaves to technology, mindlessly gazing away at fucking irrelevant pixels. I find it entertaining that my post triggered you when in reality we're having an irrelevant discussion on a hobbyist website for niche Japanese cultural exports and drawn pornography. You and me both are engulfed in these screens arguing with each other about being social, when...time spent here is time not spent socializing with people...we're both pigs rolling in the mud right now, I hope you realize that. At least I acknowledge that I'm a pig.

If you feel like your entire existence on this earth revolves around socializing with other people, then by all fucking means go ahead and be a social normie. But that's just like, your opinion man. Life is what you make it.

I don't know how many kids are doing new things or being creative when they all literally use the same products, dress the same, eat the same, do the same cute selfie poses, etc. Even the fuckers who try to be different... end up all looking the same. We make fun of hipsters and indie and everything in between because they're so predictably samey.

For me personally, I don't mind being alone. There's times when I want to talk with others and there's times when I want to be alone, the times I want to be alone outweigh the times I want to be social.

I don't feel shame or guilt in being alone or not conforming to the need of being social.

TL;DR:
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE NORMIE GET OUT

Purpose is subjective

Whether it's the amount of money or the amount of land or the amount of certificates or the amount of friends or the amount of lovers or the amount of cars and other material possessions it's all just numbers that we rack up to wank ourselves with even though the amount of numbers we can even get even working the hardest we can work are decided outside of our control by where we're born and who we're born to and what condition we're born in and what fate decides to throw at us

So in a world where luck decides all and the governments make their people feel like garbage to keep using their numbers to buy more numbers of makeup and clothes and things I would like to think that my mother cares more about me being happy than the numbers I can mold into a dick and waggle in front of people

Moved out two years ago, I miss her in a weird way

They figured they would win easily after Italy and England (the countries with the best professional soccer leagues) failed to qualify and Germany shattered their shit, and then Netherlands shattered their shit a second time.

Meanwhile, the aforementioned English and Italian teams wept bitterly that they couldn't beat Costa Rica and Uruguay, while against all odds USA made it into the round of 16.

If a soccer troll could sustain himself on the tears of arrogant nations, he'd need only the tears of those three countries to sustain himself to the end of his natural life.

I genuinely do not feel bad for the BRs being so shitshattered.

Their team sucked, and they got to the finals through a combination of bullshit ref calls against Chile/Colombia and absolute terrible lazy defensive football which resulted in some Colombian player saying fuck it and wrecking Neymar's shit so he would miss the semifinal. For the record, Brazil's strategy was just hope for an opening and give the ball to Neymar".

>Is feeling preferable to numbness?

Different Anon here. Yes, absolutely. I shut out all feelings for the better part of a decade from my late teens to my mid-twenties. It got so bad, that I basically had convinced myself that I was incapable of feeling and love. All I had left was numbness and apathy. I shunned contact, thought about suicide a lot. I didn't see the point of dragging on this existence when it seemed like hardship without reward. My father developed cancer and I watched him whither away. I didn't care. I was the last person to see him alive when he finally died. He was a decent parent, but all I felt was annoyed at having to clean up after him.
The next summer I deceded to kill someone. Didn't matter who, I just wanted to test myself if that would make me feel something, *anything*. It was completely rational curiosity. I finished my plan and gave myself 12 months to think about if this was really what I wanted to do. In those 12 months a lot of things happened. I finished my prep work for the murder (bought the necessary tools, etc), but I also realized how fucked up all of this was. I started to straighten out my life. Finished my degree. Timidly started to get my woefully neglected body in shape. Started trying to feel. I vividly recall watching a movie about the Rwandan genocide and crying for two hours straight afterwards, perhaps for the first time in years. I rekindled an old relationship that meant a lot to me and helped me a great deal. And after the 12 months were over I couldn't even put myself in a frame of mind where I would actually want to follow through with the original plan.

Humans are meant to feel. The good, the bad, the ugly, but also the (rare) sublime. I've spent the last 5 years getting better and better. Now I smile a lot and most days are positive. I'm the fittest and happiest I ever was, mostly because I allowed myself to feel again. Not feeling literally means you're dead inside. Nothing good can come of this.

Thanks for the personal story, I've been through some pretty rough shit mentally in my life but I've never gone totally numb. While you didn't convince me that numbness would be preferable to constant despair I recognize the dehumanizing effect that it could have on a person. However if we were to compare someone's suicidal depression or similar sad brains turned to the max illness to absence of emotional response, you basically have one condition which leads to the destruction of the self and another which leads to harm towards others due to a lack of empathy. I've lost a friend to suicide and while it may be wishful thinking to believe that he would have made it had he crossed some sort of mental line where he lost emotional reactions, I'm convinced his chances would have been better. Of course there is no guarantee, especially since his general thought process in regards to his worthlessness would have remained, but if was numb he wouldn't have been infinitely battered by his own despair which might have been the larger player in his demise.

That's a tough one. irl it's never as easy as a simple cause-effect relationship. If a person gets that low, it's always for a multitude of reasons. Bad experiences, chemical imbalances in your brain, fucked-up (self-)conditioning, substance abuse, trauma, failure of the social web around that person, being a shut-in, etc, etc. It always piles on. Changing a single variable (like turning on or off emotions) will never be a solution, only temporary relief at best.

I mean, that's what they actually do. If a suicide attempt or mental breakdown comes in, they dope you out with meds. I've seen it happen several times and heard it described countless more. They turn you into a zombie. Ideally it would be to buy time to work on an actual solution - more often than not it's so they can discharge you sooner without liability.

I am very critical of that practice. Yes, it takes away immediate danger, but I don't think it's helpful in the long run. To get better you need to have a desire to improve, but the meds kill every desire. To find an outlook you need to experience joy, but the meds kill every emotion.

This would lead into a much deeper conversation about suicide and what makes a life worth living. To me being an emotionless zombie is not better than death - it's worse. I wouldn't pitty your friend too much - he's certainly not suffering anymore, so there's reason to be happy for him. I hope he chose death and it wasn't forced upon him. I was chronically suicidal for many years, but thankfully I've only had one horrible awful night fighting a huge irrational urge to just off myself then and there. That was some ugly shit, I have to admit. - But again, (apart from not being able to form this thought) I wouln't mind if I had killed myself. It at least would have been one of the two available solutions to stop the misery (getting better or dying). Postponing the solution aka staying miserable would have been way worse.

>it's never as easy as a simple cause-effect relationship
Couldn't agree more, and speculation on attempts to mitigate the desire in a person to ending their own life is often a moot topic. It was a misery loves company friendship anyway, both of us were miserable for shitty reasons that hardly validated suicidal contemplation or depression.

>they dope you out with meds
WEW LAD, you don't know the half of it my man. I went from prozac to depakote and zyprexa with at least 6 other pharmaceuticals in between when I was still bouncing through the psychiatric/therapeutic monstrosity that mental health rehabilitation has become. It's brutal because the system acts as one because they survive off of one another in part through recommendations, and if you actually believe that they're 'developing' a cocktail mixture just for you and your needs you've been fucking spun.

What I had wanted to mention about meds though is that the difference between the numbness through medication and numbness due to lack of emotions is fucking huge. Occasionally, but rarely, certain drugs will (with horrible side effects) eliminate normal emotional and thought patterns to the extent that you become numb. However the catch is that you become a slow moving zombie that loses their shit if they miss a few doses. Most people are just so strung out or doped up by the meds they're on that they feel mellowed out but can still entertain regular emotions on a daily basis. A 'normal' psychopathic condition would not put the person in a chemically induced neurological straight jacket, and because of this I don't believe you can really make a comparison between the two as similar fates.

I quit my cocktail cold turkey almost three years ago and it nearly killed me. Initially once I'd gotten over the withdrawal i was certain life was better without the meds, but now I think that's a bit of an overstatement. Don't miss the interrogation/therapy sessions or the side effects though.

Good work buddy, regardless of whether you state you don't think of yourself as better than the rest it's obvious that you do. Every thing you're saying is simply writing off everyone else around you as the same.

Have you not considered that maybe because no one cares about you, you in turn care about no one and seem them all as the same.

Oh wow, that's a hell of an experience you've been through.

I agree there are serious differences between shutting out emotions while remaining high-functioning and being knocked out by meds. I don't know, I was drawing a parallel that still makes sense in my head. Both make you lose good and bad experiences and not really care about the big picture.

The abscense of emotional sadness sounds appealing and I totally get how I ended up emotionless as part of a natural coping strategy. But you still have to deal with objective reality. And without any emotional cushioning - reality fucking sucks! Successes matter little without pleasant emotions, but failures still haunt you - even without sadness or anger. People are horrible by nature, the world is everything but fair - it's grating and makes you want to go on a killing spree.

Losing every emotion may be too costly. Feelings at least give you impetus. Yes, more impetus to kill yourself, but also impetus to get better. They give you something to live for. Also, I don't think there *can* be happiness without sadness. If you are happy all the time, that's the new base line and you don't feel happy anymore. You need the potential for downswings to appreciate the upswings. Even (impossibly) knocking out just sadness seems like a bad deal to me.

But I totally get why this seems appealing in general and appealing especially to you. I have a list of personal truisms and right at the top is, "the other side - where the grass is always greener". Everyone brings their own experience to the table, knows only their own suffering and is fucking conviced that other people *must* have it better. Spoiler: They don't. It's a fallacy, that I'm prone to fall for. I didn't want to believe for a very long time that I wasn't a special snowflake and that my suffering wasn't uniquely horrible. Took me years to get it into my head that *everyone* is fucked-up and I should stop longing to swap with them. :-)

what don't you understand?

what hes saying is this

> smart people tell the dumb people that stuff in the ruling government is broken so they must unite and fight the power to fix things

> after the fighting is done the smart people take over and the dumb ones who weren't killed in the fighting get trampled under there boots

> later another bunch of smart people come along and say hey the government is broken

and that is why its called a Revolution

cause it keeps going around and around and around in your fucking face

I'm not saying you're wrong but suppose for a second that there is merit to people deeming things "edgy". A lot of people like to parade this idea about society being vapid and hollow because it's kind of in vogue to do so. You somehow get "awareness point" for talking shit about "society". In reality, there are a lot of genuine people with whom you can have meaningful connections. Don't let the internet and social media fool you.

That's why a lot of this kind misanthropic "look how woke I am" kind of stuff feels so childish to a lot of people (frankly me included). That clip doesn't convey anything profound other than "it sure is easy to trick ourselves into enjoying life day by day" as if that's something to be ashamed of.

I don't even need to know the context of this to know the asian guy is dead wrong. Since it's a black guy that lost colonization only 50 or so year ago that means he's african. In africa the infrastructure built by the colonials to extract resources.

Imagine if they built a railroad in the US that went straight from the mines to the sea and missed every major city on the way. Why would you use that? Imagine if you built sandstone structures in a place that rains constantly? Shit doesn't last. Imagine after most of your best stuff is taken they up and leave and just leave this stuff rotting. What are you going to use to pay for it? They took all your shit.

The chinese were never truly colonized. When industry was built in china it was for the chinese by the chinese.

You are fucking retarded. The only european colony that was exploited mercilessly was Belgian Congo, and even that got better in the last few decades.

What you are saying was not true for french colonies, and it sure as fuck was not true for the british ones.

Or are you going to claim that the europeans did not built schools, hospitals, enforced sanitation and generally improved the quality of life for everyone?

And how are you going to explain South Africa? Why is it still relatively well working country (even if its going to shit since the end of apartheid)? And if you are going to claim that is different because it had european population, how do you explain Zimbabwe? It had european population as well yet its fucked just as all other african countries are.

Fuck off with your white guilt bullshit.
>>
>>1039845
>Imagine if they built a railroad in the US that went straight from the mines to the sea and missed every major city on the way. Why would you use that?

for exports? what's the congo supposed to do with 40% of the world's cobalt production if they're NOT going to ship it abroad?

what the chinese guy is saying is that once the europeans left, nobody took care of the roads, nobody maintained the railroads. He's probably not in a position to say a lot about why this happened (it's not because africans are lazy), but the fact is that a lot of infrastructure just fell apart after the europeans left and it happened all over africa. Sierra Leone to my knowledge is the only country in history to have had TV coverage, lost it (because the masts just fell over because nobody took care of them) and then regain it

He's right though. I honestly believe the Internet has given this current generation just about every reason to stop listening to the muddled old sayings that have been passed down

"You should respect your elders"
"Why?"
"Well, they're older than you and know more, like grandpa."
"Grandpa was working in a factory since 17 and has stayed there until he retired. He hated the job yet constantly said that I was a little shit that didn't work hard. Meanwhile there are people who do nothing but play video games that make 10x as much money as he did and will have enough to last them till their his age. Hell, grandpa hasn't left his state unless it was for family things like a death or wedding, and even then, that was like once every 3 or 4 years. So tell me, why should I respect some bitter, old cunt who bent over and took it in the ass for 40 years rather than do things he liked and still refers to black as 'The Negroes'?"

You know why you should respect your elders?

Because they kept this society running and working, not flawlessly don't put words in my mouth, so pieces of shit like you can walk around and see everything fine and none of the hard work it took to create it.

Go ahead, vote for your Bernie. Demand shit you didn't earn. Tell a man who has earned his shit to give it to you so you can have the same life as him. You're grandfather decided his life and worked for it, you see someone elses and try to take it. Fucking scum.

B-but gamers, they can earn like 10 million dollars a year. Why should I have to go to school and do homework, I'm like really good at call of duty and league compared to my friends. My win % is in the high 60's.

When you finally decide to go back to school and earn a degree so you won't fail at life, wear a cap to hide your bald spots you got in your late 30's. Ask anyone who makes more than 80 thousand a year consistently and see how the world works outside your phone and 3 person social circles. Life isn't fair, you don't get shit unless you earn it, work or steal, and that'll determine hold long you keep it.

I never once said I supported Bernie (more of a Ron Paul guy), but way to assume there, sport.

>When you finally decide to go back to school and earn a degree so you won't fail at life, wear a cap to hide your bald spots you got in your late 30's. Yeah, you're definitely in college right now hoping shit works out, or your outside of college hoping that your degree and massive debt wasn't a complete waste of time.

I suppose it's all a matter of perspective. Clearly you value your emotions, good or bad. Life is tough, at some point most of us realize that there is no set purpose for us and unless you had one impressed upon you by your community/family it takes a lot of will power to keep going. Glad you found satisfaction in between the ups and downs though.

To all of the Africa posts, most African civilizations were doomed to fail once colonial powers left for two primary reasons: the borders of newly sovereign nation-states were drawn along colonial lines, which instantly led to ethnic warfare. And, more importantly, the vast majority of their societies were uneducated and incapable of managing any sort of organized first world society. In DRC the number of college graduates left in the country after the Belgians left was in the single digits.

It's generally agreed that if colonial powers had never interacted with Sub-Saharan and Central African regions that they would have remained among the least developed areas on the planet second only to Aboriginal Australians due to a variety of geographic and cultural reasons.

Older generations posts; I personally believe that respect for the elderly is, in general, a valid concept. Of course as the Boomer's get older it becomes more difficult to maintain this position, yet in general the older members of our society were raised in comparatively simple social environments where a strong work ethic was one of the most valuable human traits. However we no longer live in the economic conditions of our parents or grandparents and recreational devices available to us today are beyond what they could have dreamed when they were our age.

Personally, I see not just the west but the world in general heading towards a period of immense change similar to the 1960s as the factions on opposing sides of various culture wars now have instant access to one another through technology which is rapidly accelerating beyond our capacity to handle the repercussions it may have on a civilization full of people that generally have a bleaker outlook on the world than most generations that came before them.

The older generations can be assholes that refuse to sympathize with people who feel utterly alone and simply want to escape into readily and freely available recreations. But we can't live in a world full of neets and its common social practice to shun the outcast, even if he became one of his own volition.

While not with the...passion you have expressed, I do agree with you.
It was their generation that has brought the world to the fucked up state that it is presently in, and they expect us to happily live in it and carry it for them.
They make demands of us in order to be accepted into society--get a college education for example--but these standards once fulfilled have done nothing whatsoever if not put us behind had we not done as they demanded (student debt, years not gainfully employed, no jobs post-graduation, etc).
The idiocy and arrogance of the baby boomers and generation X are only matched by our generation's decadent degeneracy.
Then they will bitch and complain about our generation...well who fucked that up I wonder?
It couldn't have possibly been our parents who left us to our own devices without any discipline or guidance so that they could work more to make more money to live a more comfortable lifestyle and then get promptly divorce as we approach puberty...no, couldn't be that.

I say this as someone with a graduate degree and a job working for the gov.

Every generation bitches about the last since time immemorial. It's not something new or interesting, it just happens as values clash.

There's three very important points to emphasize here:

-Respect and COURTESY are often confused
-Respect is not the same thing as courtesy even though the dictionary definitions of the words are entwined with one-another
-Respect itself is a difficult concept, because the way it's taught versus how it's applied is a contradiction.

I'm not really going to explain this further since its 4chan and it would probably turn into a few paragraphs but to summarize,

You should be courteous (show respect) to your elders.
You should be courteous (show respect) to people in general because the primary directive of human interaction should be the promotion of goodwill.
Showing respect and giving respect are NOT the same thing.

As a kid, I used to tie a chicken bone at the end a jump rope. I'd run around with the rope in hand and he would always go after the bone. Other times I'd toss the rope at a tree, tie another bone at it and dangle it like a piƱata and he would just jump and bite and he'd keep on trying.
He died 6 years ago and every time I see kids playing jump rope, it reminds me of the good times.
