thanks! and yeah, that bothers me too but i haven't figured out a way to trigger an animation in klwp by opening the app drawer

you've got a solid 9/10 only thing i would do is change the font because the zeros look like O's and change the previous and next icons on the music player to match the play/pause button

If you use it, then that's your thing. Use nova launcher. It has the quick search widget, but you can customize it so it matches your theme.

Use nova for the icons and notification bar,too. It can change your icon pack easily and can adjust things like the size of the icons and amount of icons that fit in the dock

For the app specific notifications there is always Tesla Unread which is used with Nova to add a customizable unread counter to the icons of apps (it only works with certain apps for now, so you get what you get).

I've decided to take the bait. Here's the score breakdown for me:

Layout: 8/10 - You've managed to fit a lot of information and usability into one screen, I'm also a fan of functionality so I approve. Everything seems easily within reach with one hand which is good. (no idea what phone this is based off the screen alone) Only improvement I would suggest would be to decrease the size of your clock (unless you have sight related issues) and increase the size of and move the battery indicator. Surely you could have worked in some way of displaying the battery in the light gold separator up top. It's the only space that's UN-used on your screen currently...

That separator is certainly some wasted space that could be used for more functionality.

Style: 2/10 - I get that gold everything was a pretty popular design choice in El Dorado, but I'd say you were born too late and a little too far north of "The Wall" for any of them to be seeing it at this rate. For the record, the anons who responded to this rice as being "golden" or "gold" are wrong in my opinion. I would say that it's gilded. Meaning that it's a flimsy sham of a rice trying and failing to hide the shit beneath its tacky and obviously fake exterior. I'm sure there's a comparison that could be used to draw lines between that and your personality, but I won't go there for now.

To go into more depth about the individual elements of style;
1: those custom icons look like they were made in 2005, complete with incorrect lighting on the edges. It seems like the light source for each icon is directly above, yet the side edges are the lightest, how does that work?
2: You seem to have made the strange design choice to include color on only one of your apps on the home-screen. Why not let the globe in the Firefox app be gold as well? It would have fit with the theme much better.

3: Your phones (global, I'm assuming) font choice is terrible for the theme of your home-screen. That font gives off no semblance of regality, royalty, or wealth. It's just plain ugly which you can't gild to make look better. If you want a theme to look put together and not like shit, all the elements have to mesh. (Of course you would have had to think of a good theme in the first place)
4: The weather widget is severely out of place. It manages to both draw the eye to it, while also being difficult to read some of the text below due to white text on a yellow background, drop shadow or not. Frankly, it must be a pain to use in direct sunlight, IF you ever go outside. The icons are especially horrific, if you managed to spend the time to make custom icons, why not make some gold weather icons while you're at it?

And now to address some hypocrisy that I noticed.

Okay I've read it. And I do agree with most of what you said. Lots of comment on the style are things I don't even think about. Not my line of work, just a casual hobby Photoshopper, nothing serious.

I did make the icons myself about a year ago except for the weather widget (Animated Widgets) and the Firefox one. I actually chose it because of that blue globe.
That the font don't match may be in your interpretation of the theme. For me it's just a colour scheme with no deeper meaning or heritage. I've loved the shiny gold colours ever since I was 5, and my phone, S6 Edge GOLD obviously, is the only golden thing in my life. No gold interiour, no jewelry at all.

I can assure you that this theme is not derived from Trump. I had no idea what his apartment looked like and be honest, there are many other golden things in the world. But I do support Trump obviously.

I don't particularly think these threads are "autistic echo chambers", although I completely understand exactly where you're coming from. I just think the reasons are different.

A lot of the people who post in these threads are new, and simply just want to make their first rice. What do these threads have a lot of? Examples of rices. So, if someone's new, and not sure where to start, they might just sort of copy what other people are doing if they like the style. They haven't had time to come up with their own fully fleshed out idea for a rice because they're focusing on just making a rice, any rice.

Others just have trouble coming up with their own ideas; or are creatively bankrupt, and endlessly remake what others have done.

And finally some people really like making rices in a common style because they just like that style. Maybe some of the are the original makers of the style, who knows. Whether the style were popular or not, they'd still be making it and posting it.

Really, you don't often see people telling others to just do "guassian blur on artsy wallpaper with pop up box containing app icons", but it still shows up commonly. On the other hand, rices like >>6942317 and >>6940378 receive extra praise for being so different (and, importantly, for being so well done). They don't just get some numerical rating like "ultra-minimalistic rice with pastel colours #3590", but generally also a sentence or two just gushing about how good they are. Some extra words of praise and encouragement. To me, that doesn't sound like the actions of an autistic echo chamber.

TL;DR It's a combination of people needing inspiration, and simply liking a style that lots of other people also like, rather than being an echo chamber.

Or maybe I'm entirely wrong.

I usually hold my phone with two hands so the shortcuts being at the top doesn't really affect me much.

The perfect combination would be to have aesthetics merge perfectly with functionality but in most cases, one will become more prevelant than the other. In my case, I prefer a more aesthetically pleasing approach that is only as functional as I need it to be.

I'll be upgrading from my current phone to the OnePlus 5 when it launches, so I'll be saying goodbye to this homescreen unless I decide to export it onto an SD card, maybe I'll take your advice and start over.
