Ok time to bust out my folder for you guys. The bad news is, the worse ones are first. The good news is, the better ones are later.
1/16
2/16
I just bought my third jumpsuit yesterday. Fits like a dream.
3/16
Saw Alien: Covenant in the theater two nights ago, which I assume is the reason for this thread. It frustrated me because...
4/16
... it wasn't good. I mean, it was fun and scary and the graphics were great, but it didn't have a soul at all.
5/16
The fact that pic related has been the only good thing to happen to this sorry mistreated cash cow of a franchise since Aliens is pretty sad.
6/16
But like I said, it's fun. It's kind of like reading fanfiction, except it's big budget and exciting and with beautiful people in it. Waterston was great. Fassbender was great of course.
7/16
But the more movies there are, the more it seems that Ridley Scott had less to do with the original simplistic brilliance of Alien than I thought. Giger was the true spirit of Alien. Existential body horror.
8/16
The more lore Ridley develops, the dumber it gets. This whole shit with David is getting absolutely ridiculous, and the mess of Prometheus fucking up the beautiful mystery of the space jockey really sucked.
Like I said, though- it's like fanfiction. Nothing will ever be the original Alien, and that's fine. But I would prefer to see new movies, new concepts. (This is where the wallpapers start getting good.)
10/16
Forgot to put a number on that last one.
11/16
How's the night going for you guys?
12/16
I made a loaf of bread today. My first one. It was okay, not great, but not bad at all.
13/16
14/16
I hope someone gets a kick out of these. Any takers?
15/16
Maybe you guys want to see my bread?
16/16
Well, that's all for me. I'll hang around for a little while longer to accept compliments.

I actually really enjoyed Covenant, but I also really enjoyed Prometheus.
I think that those two together made for a really good origin story of the xenomorph.
And I hope the next two movies leading up to the very first one will be of the same caliber.

This
Covenant is easily the best Alien film since Alien. Aliens is a good film, but completely fucks the feel of the original one by essentially making it marines vs bugs.
Covenant is flawed, but it's ART.
Most haters clearly didn't understand the film and Ridley's vision.
Alien was essentially a biomechanical fever dream, a creature made of distorted sexual organs figuratively raping people to death. It is intrinsically human.
Alien Covenant goes in another direction and focuses more on themes of birth and creation and religion, but again in a distorted way.
It is connected. Giger's legacy lives on.

>>6930470
>two
wait... two movies? I read that Ridley announced only one more to get closer to the original Alien.
Posibility for someone else to do more?
They did good for me too, the movies, yes.
In Covenant I didnt like how they changed things with the births of the Aliens. No chestbursters and no feeding for the Alien to grow up. It was fully grown within hours, if so.
When it bursted from the "priest" it was a full grown reduced to 1:18 scale which sucked major spaceballs for me.
>>6930797
>on themes of birth and creation and religion
I get this - on some level. But the fact that the "Alien" was birthed from a cauliflower by being stepped then worked its way into a human organims is beyond me. That was, by far, the most stupidest thing for me in the movie.

thankfully i didn't see both alien movies till i was like 15.
>>6931787
What? The original Alien grew to adult size in just a few hours and didn't feed either. What are you on about?
>>6931787
There were chestbursters in the movie. Also in the original film the Alien was fully grown within a few hours with no feeding. The white aliens that busted from the people's back were called neomorphs. They are not the same as Xenomorphs.
>>6926571
For a french film it really wasn't that bad.
>>6928451
Underrated? Hell I'd say it was a better Alien movie than the third or fourth. It's also one of my favorite horror games.
>>6933917
>The white aliens that busted from the people's back were called neomorphs. They are not the same as Xenomorphs.
He's not talking about those. The one that came out of the captain's chest after he fell for David's painfully obvious "no its safe bro I promise" ruse was a regular xeno, and it wasn't in the larval stage. It was already in the adult form, just super tiny and shitty looking.
There are so many things wrong with Covenant it's not even funny. People give Prometheus shit for having plot holes, but holy fuck, Covenant is nothing but plotholes. Ridley couldn't even bother making Covenant consistent with Prometheus, let alone the rest of the franchise.
>prometheus has giant mural on a wall of a queen xeno, implying the creatures already exist
>david creates the species in covenant when we see the eggs
>if david supposedly created the eggs, how did they get on the ancient crashed engineer ship in the beginning of Alien
>facehuggers die after impregnating one host
>the facehugger that impregnates the captain goes on to impregnate a second guy (the one whose face gets burned)
>the creature that bursts out of the captain is fully formed, just small
>the creature is apparently a "protomorph" and not a xenomorph, as it has noticeable differences when fully grown (not talking about the neomorphs at the beginning)
>why is it a different creature instead of a regular xeno
>when david unleashes the goo on the engineer city its shown disintegrating the engineers
>why are there a bunch of burnt-looking bodies littering the place
>>6934935

I'll be friendly and help you out though.
>prometheus has giant mural on a wall of a queen xeno, implying the creatures already exist
First of all you need to understand that Prometheus was a mess. Proceeding from that movie in an elegant way was literally impossible. Some retcons had to be made.
It's explicitly stated in the movie that the black goo kills the host and creates "hybrid shock troops". You can also see creatures bursting from the engineers during the holocaust scene.
>if david supposedly created the eggs, how did they get on the ancient crashed engineer ship in the beginning of Alien
Yet to be explained.
>the facehugger that impregnates the captain goes on to impregnate a second guy (the one whose face gets burned
That was clearly another facehugger.
>why is it a different creature instead of a regular xeno
Because it just is. Maybe David hasn't "perfected" them yet.
>>6934935
There is a lot of plot holes in the movie but here is my interptation of the movie so far:
Here is my interpretation of the story so far I could be completely wrong or missed something but my interpretation got a few positive reactions in another thread so here it goes :
I've read articles that have stated from Ridley that the xenomorphs weren't created by the engineers. I believe the xenomorphs were a ancient extinct species that the engineers worshiped(hence the murals of the xenomorphs in their builds/spaceships) and the engineers tried the hardest to bring the species back through reverse engineering (Humanity was a byproduct of these multiple attempts to bring the species back. )
So my understanding is (correct me if I'm wrong) but the engineers tried to bring the xenomorphs species back to existence but were only partially successful and the black goo was a byproduct of this and the closest they got to reviving the species is the "deacon" alien but decided that the black goo they made can also be a world destroying bioweapon so they decided to utilize the black goo for something. Then David comes along reads all of the engineers works for years on end and studies their ancient scientific papers and does many experiments to bring the xenomorphs back (the neomorphs is basically David's version of the engineers deacon -a failed/early attempt at reviving the species. ) and after many many tries David fully reverse engineers the xenomorphs species back into existence after improving on the engineers previous works. For the future movies I suspect that the xenomorphs keep evolving physically and mentally and slowly regain the powers they had before they went extinct. And final Apex of power of the species is regained when a queen Alien is born. As they become independent and remember there own motives from ancient times to the point where the xenomorphs get out of control and David loses complete power over them.
>>6934850
>The one that came out of the captain's chest after he fell for David's painfully obvious "no its safe bro I promise" ruse was a regular xeno
No it wasn't. It was a Protomorph. It's very similar but it's still an "imperfect" version that precedes the Xenomorph.

>There are so many things wrong with Covenant it's not even funny. People give Prometheus shit for having plot holes, but holy fuck, Covenant is nothing but plotholes. Ridley couldn't even bother making Covenant consistent with Prometheus, let alone the rest of the franchise.
Yeah, I agree. I thought the film was thematically brilliant (allusions to Paradise Lost, contrast between David and Walter, theme of creation) but it really shit the bed when it came to simple things like connecting point A to B. If you read up on the Wiki a lot of the plot holes from the film are answerable. I've no clue why Ridley decided to leave some things out, when they were clearly written. Backstory becomes a plot hole when you don't actually put in into the fucking film. Also, I thought some of the character's decisions were really hard to empathize with, chief among them Oram and that chick that decides to separate from the group just to dress a fucking wound, despite being in a hostile planet with 7+ foot creatures. The only deaths I could really understand were Ricks' and Upworth's. They survived the entire debacle and decided to fuck the pain from losing their friends away; what could go wrong? Their cluelessness and the improbability of what happened made it brilliant. The imagery of the Proto going through the dude's mouth fucked with me. It felt sexual, albeit a twisted and fucked up type of sexual, which I understand was the concept that went into the design of the original Xenomorphs (them being phallocentric and all.)
Despite its flaws I fucking loved it. Planning on seeing it again.
I agree with the anon that called it ART.
>>6932987
I'm a huge fan of the franchise, but Alien + Aliens > all others after. The old school special FX without any CGI is so much more authentic, and shows how lazy film producers have become.
Covenant was a HUGE let down for me. Prometheus was much better in comparison on numerous levels.
>>6935342
Agree. Watched Alien the other day and I was surprised at how realistic and crisp everything look.
CGI makes films easier and less expensive to make, not necessarily better.
>>6926375
fuckin saved
>>6935302
>I've no clue why Ridley decided to leave some things out, when they were clearly written. Backstory becomes a plot hole when you don't actually put in into the fucking film.
Because he's a senile old man who doesn't give a damn about consistency. He won't even put cut scenes that answer questions (like the deleted scenes in Prometheus) back into the film for a directors cut version on DVD, he just leaves them in the extras section.
>>6935427
It's frustrating just cause it's so unnecessary. If he hadn't bothered to write backstory then I could understand it - it's just lazy. But to actually have a complete story, rip scenes from it for God knows what reason and leave it incomplete is fucking absurd.
I really liked Covenant, but I question Ripley's judgement when it comes to piecing things together. Could have easily been much better if he had been arsed to.
>>6931449
Is it wrong that I want to grab that ass and pour my hot sapien fluid inside that alien ass. Like am I the only one getting a massive boner cause of it?
>>6930207
i agree with what AVGN said and that its the best alien since Aliens. i dont view AvP as cannon plus theyre awful. plus alien 3 and resurrection suck. Prometheus was meh and didnt feel like an alien movie.
if they didnt include the creators of humans thing and just did like mad scientist like david id dig it more.
but like everyone says. there wont be another Alien or Aliens. those two cant be touched.
>>6935572
Nope, nothing wrong with that at all.
>>6935705
>i dont view AvP as cannon plus theyre awful
The first one was awful, but Requiem is a lot of fun. It feels like an 80's slasher flick, where the humans are annoying on purpose so you'll be excited to see them die (hell, even a fucking kid dies, and that never happens in regular slasher movies).
I sure as hell don't consider it canon, and it's not exactly a cinematic masterpiece, but the body count is great and it's a lot of fun to see the two species throw down. Plus the predalien is just plain fucking awesome.

I would not say that, the visuals and horror aspects were great. But by default any horror movie that relies on all of its characters to be completely stupid isn't a good movie.

Original with different background.
Amazing art by the way. The duality of biological and synthetic, David's twisted offspring in the middle.
Nobody but Ridley Scott could direct a movie that could inspire such things, least of all Neill Blomhack.
>>6940547
It's such a beautiful fan art. I've not much on this level. It's even better than the movie poster I'd say. Reminds me of Mother Mary holding baby Jesus. "I admire its... purity"
