When you press the headphone icon a panel with music controls appears (I'm still working on it). I'm not sure about the clock but with a top bar the screen feel "claustrophobic" on my 5 inches phone.

I'm pretty new to android ricing (besides custom ROMs) and I've had a bad experience with substratum as it caused a bootloop of lineage os. Had to find that information on their g+ but the damage was already done.
I'm reading all the links in the FAQ and as I've understood the next steps are custom launcher, icon packs and klwp kustom.
I'm running the pixel launcher and i love its design.
Posting the screenshot of my unriced device.
Do i have to worry about root loop problems klwp can cause? Is there anything else I should look into?

Check Zooper Widgets out as well, really powerful and hardly a learning curve. As for launchers, I switched from Apex to Nova a while ago and never looked back. Both are great, though I have little experience with others. Just "shop" for theme's here and if you see something you like, compliment the creator and he will do anything you want. Because we're all desperate losers who's only validation comes from other autistic virgins on this board

My last one stuck around for about a year, and I only made a new one a few days ago. Before that, I had changed it every few days as well. My first ones weren't very good, but once I found a setup I really liked, I just never had both an idea and the will to change it at the same time, even when a glitch in KLWP broke it for the last few months.

My current one probably won't last long though, I don't really like how I did some of it, and I can't see a way of changing those parts to match the rest (I've been using lots of animations, which worked for the buttons and music controls, but the text for the apps, date, and weather just doesn't really offer many options for animations)

heres some advice if you want it minimal.
•double function your apps to reduce needed icons to 4 at most
•gestures to do stuff like recent apps, app drawer, notification center
•get rid of the status bar and replace the information you really need with a custom widget
•get rid of the dumb fucking google bar
•make the contrast less jarring.

and if you want it minimal and interesting looking.
•get a handle on the vertical balance of it
•get some color in there

To answer your question, currently there is no best way to customise your lockscreen. You could use a Marshmallow rom along Xposed module, but be wary that it needs root, it can brick your phone and it's not garanteed to work. It rarely ever worked for me, and I'm not the only one. Also, the module did not see any development since now two years.
Some roms allow a bit of customisation on lockscreen, such as removing a few items, changing their font or colors. Look up roms for your device and search for their features. Can be tricky but it is rewarding.
Third party apps can also be used, but there are very few that are actually nice. Acdisplay for exemple is pretty good, but again no development and it is not safe at all. Heard some good reviews on things like ZUI Locker, but I don't like it myself.
The last method is something someone on Reddit tried: make a faux lockscreen on KLWP, by cleaning ALL the lockscreen and tweaking KLWP. Look it up too.

I designed it around my own taste and needs so it works well for me. The app drawers certainly take too long, however I'm unsure of how to do them in a faster way. Currently, each transition between drawer pages fades out the left/right arrows and fades in new ones with differenr globals. The activated global of the right moved to the left arrow, allowing for transitions. So there's 6 sets of nav buttons, and one must move from one page to another. I'm open to alternate ideas, though.

I like this one, it's fairly well done, and the app icon placement is good. It's nothing particularly adventurous, but it does (almost) every well and is easy on the eyes. I think you should slightly raise the clock up a little though, since it doesn't seem to be right in the middle of the bar it's in.
