We ran out of CSS edition.

>What are startpages?
Startpages (in the context of this thread) are locally hosted webpages (as in, the files are on your computer - not a server somewhere) that serve as the homepage or new tab page for a browser. They generally contain some number of links to frequently visited sites as the main element; search bars, clocks, calendars and other embedded items are usually added as secondary elements.

>What browser are you using?
If you can't tell what browser it is, it's probably Firefox, you can theme Firefox using Stylish and finding themes on the Firefox tag of Userstyles.
Otherwise if you won't upgrade there's always Chrome, you can ~slightly~ customize it using Chrome Theme Maker.

Well, I was posting but I accidentally updated the browser. FFS

I was working on this.

I finally finished my Tumblr's CSS. It has portrait and landscape mode, with some tweaks on each mode.

I think I riced everything it could be riced to make it smooth and consistent, yet I accept suggestions.

Wallpapers are easily able to change.

That's really sleek. I wish more of the information was translated to English but I understand it's a site for a French uni student group, so it hardly makes much sense. 10/10 would click again

any reason for the empty header that pushes the whole site down for no real reason?
>>
>>6891413
thanks dude, actually there are some non french students in our courses, so adding an english option seems to be useful more or less. Since I'm currently working on the layout, translating isn't my priority, but will translate sooner or later !

>>6891415
don't really know what you're talking about, care to share a screenshot/webm of the issue ?
>>
>>6891417
So the "container" has a 40px margin so the content doesn't touch the borders of the site but the way you achieve the 40 px margin from the top is by creating a <header></header> with width 100%; height 40px, why not just adjust the css for container to start 40 px lower instead of creating a header object.
>>
>>6891417
he's asking why you've windowboxed the entire site.
>>
>>6891419
not even, that's fine it's just done in an inconsistent way, he's windowboxing with a 40px margin left right in one element and solving the top one with another element and the bottom margin with yet another element.
>>
>>6891418
>>6891419
yeah, just figured it out when I was typing

actually, in a first version, the header wasn't empty, there was a logo and some contact informations, but decided to put them inside the container, thus the empty header ! But yeah, I should do this instead now

Anyone know how to change the background for Firefox itself (that is, I'm pretty much referring to the 'title bar(?)' in this:

I've been using Melbourne for a while, but no clue which search terms to use to find this - I have hardly any knowledge of firefox CSS.

Nah, that one is actually mine. I realized what I typed before was total gibberish, sorry.
A few months ago, A guy posted a homepage that had the same background as his wallpaper, so his browser looked transparent. It would even reposition the background so it would line up with his wall no matter the position of his browser window. I thought it was kinda cool and I'm trying to make something similar, but it's kinda janky right now so I was hoping to look at his solution.
Seems he doesn't post here anymore, so nevermind.
>>
>>6896751
Gotcha! Hope it helps then. I assume it's that script slowing down your site but (as a Java noob) I can't really say whether it is or not (just a hunch that it might be). Are you loading a lot of stuff like fonts or stylesheets? Is everything locally hosted? If there's a lot of stuff being loaded and especially if that stuff isn't locally hosted (like for instance, loading a bunch of images from pomf.se or something) it might be why it's running slowly. But I'm not 100% on that, sorry.
>>
>>6899714

Unfortunately I din't manage to get this thing working, it refuses to see my homepage file for some reason.

Anyway, >>6897245 guy helped with the numbger of items in the rss feed. Apart from that, css part barely takes 70 lines, no images at all, and no external content - it's just one local html file, on an SSD too. Not sure what else can I do.

Also what is better in your opinion - a startpage where you have to open some menus or dropdowns to access the links (thus spending more time actually getting to the links you need) or something that displays those links right away?
>>
>>6899873
You spend a lot of time moving your cursor around to hit the links though. Startpages are not about optimization.

>>
Sup, >>6912401 here. I'm not >>6912774

why not try whit adding and removing a class from the element?
>>
>>6913074
It does neither when I first load it. Just a blank page with a cringe greentext, the time, and an output. Is there something else required?
Also, as for your idea, I think it depends, do you want it to just run that command? Do you want it to just display the text returned from ls?
You can either just tell it to display the text as another class or tell the page to input ls on load
>>
>>6913203

The github says if too many people use the weather API it doesn't show up so that might be what's happening.

It's supposed to show weather, cringe green text, then time. I already removed the green text and time, but the weather seems hardcoded.

I want to replace that with a default ls function. I don't mind if it prints output or runs the command, is there a way to do that?
>>
>>6913220
The weather loading code is at the top of bin.js. I just moved it to the top of term.js for readability. It doesn't work if you go to the Github-hosted page because Github uses https and OpenWeatherMap uses http, resulting in a mixed-content error when it tries to fetch data.

To print the output of ls(), just call help() in the document.ready function along with the time function, NOT ls() because it takes arguments.

As for the greentext, it was just to remind me to switch off Windows when I needed to actually do work. Probably should have taken that out earlier but eh
>>
>>6913227

Hey, thanks for replying!

I called print(help()) but that also prints a line of "undefined" at the end, any idea why?

And I can't find any call for weather at the top of either term.js nor bin.js?

I liked the greentext you made, but I moved it to set machine to windows/mac instead of printing at the top :)
>>
>>6913266
Yeah help() already prints to the terminal. It doesn't return anything, which is where 'undefined' is coming from if you try to print the result.

Also, weird. I did some reorganizing earlier today, but just look for document.ready in the files and anything that gets called from that. Idk if you're working from a formed version or what but I'd check the most recent report version.

>>6915246
It defaults to the left normally. Most custom CSS have the tabs centered though. I think they changed the name of the element needed to center it.

Is there any way to set something up to get the weather for a given location and output it as text only on a webpage?
I've tried searching for it, but it just comes up with a bunch of overly designed widgets and other shit.
All I want is the temp followed by the weather.
For example;

80° , Sunny

Just as text, no photos, no forecast, just text.
Is there something like this laying around that I can use? Or do I have to set it up myself? I don't know jack shit about scripting, but I can handle myself with html/css.

Thanks in advance.
>>
>>6917326
I should mention, that I would ideally be able to customize the responses from the weather.
I just want to have one of those faggy weather things that go

"It's sunny outside, 80°f"
>>
>>6917332
https://openweathermap.org/current is what I use, and it's pretty good. You'd use it like:

var json_url = "http://api.openweathermap.org/data/2.5/weather?q=Morningside+Heights,ny&appid=[your app id]";
$.when(
$.getJSON(json_url)
).done(function(json_obj) {
doThingsWith(json_obj)
})
}
>>
>>6917326
Yes. Pick a weather API first, then setup an account. You can open a request to the API with XMLHttpRequest() (google documentation on it) and then use JSON.parse(yourObject) to parse the response from the API. Pick out the information you care about from the API and then set it wherever you want in your document.

No jQuery required.

You can go a second level by using a cookie (or web storage API) to cache the weather information, this means you can mash reload on your homepage and not waste hits on the API, plus not have to wait on it to respond every time.

I can post my implementation if you want, though I'm not going to be fucked to comment it.
>>
Also if you can't fix left-aligned text in your tabs, how the fuck did you write any FF CSS in the first place. It should be dead simple.

Did I never write a guide for this thread on how to inspect FF's UI with the native inspector?

Do you have an example of something I can use?
Like an html file you can link on dropbox with just the weather thing?

I find it's easier for me to learn by taking it apart and seeing how it works.
If not, it's no big deal. Thanks

Thanks, your example helped out a bit. I can kind of see how it works, but when I try placing that area into a page within a <script> tag, it doesn't display anything.

How do I get it to display all the time?
Pic related is the homepage I've been working on; I realize it's not flashy, I can do flashy, but I just wanted something simple and text based.
All I'm trying to do is get the custom weather to display right under the time/date.

Sorry for asking all this, I know spoonfeeding is kind of shitty, I'm just not understanding it all properly.

I'd like to see how you did it.

You want to change the contents of an existing element on the page. Just check out how to do that with Javascript.
