>>6886098
appreciate it, I already had almost all of these saved and properly named (reverse image search makes it a lot easier), but I don't think I've ever bothered to help other people out directly in the thread.

Course of the Empire is one of Thomas Cole's best series of paintings.
This one is subtitled "Desolation" for those who might have been wondering.

There's a lot of non classical art in this thread tho. There's mostly neoclassicism, baroque and even some romance.
Here, have some neoclassicism.

Wait a minute, that woman is touching Cupid's penis, wasn't she? Is that shopped? Censored? Original please.

'Destruction' always makes me really emotional. It's such a horrible scene, watching this beautiful place get pillaged, people desperately fleeing across the makeshift bridge, woman being dragged off to be raped and enslaved. There are plenty of painting of horrible scenes, but the scale in that one is only matched by how relatable and real it is. It's not like a Bosch scene of hell where it enters absurd - we still see that shit on the news every day.
>>6889786
The fuck is with that ugly-ass satyr and the tennis ball titties.
>>6886436
Thank you for this beautiful piece!
>>6890244
That's the ideal female body. You may not like, but that's what peek performance looks like.
There's no classical art in this thread. If you're interested in paintings or art in general just open some books instead of watching "nice" random paintings without understanding anything...
>>6887018
Could anyone post the originals?
>>6890244
A lot of women in traditional sculptures and paintings have fucked up looking bodies because men rarely saw women naked. Since there weren't photographs or anything either, it was basically just guys looking at clothes/robes and giving it their best fucking guess. There's a famous painting of "the first rape", I forget what it's called, but its renowned for the fact that the woman in it (who is supposed to be beautiful) is fucking disgusting.

Dude go fuck yourself if you cant see the value in this thread gtfo

I think that's Bouguereau. Let me see if I can find them.
>>6891309
Okay, so both the Madonna and the Pieta are by Bouguereau as I thought, but the Madonna I found has a different background, so I don't really know, I'm not that versed in Bouguereau stuff, maybe he painted a different version.
>>6891313
>>6891313
>>6891314
Okay, nervemind. I found it. Bouguereau just "copy pasted" the Madonna of the Lillies into this painting.

The birth and death of jesus in artistic expression and the first response to this guy's keen eye and "okay" format is "edgy."
Edgy is like a dismissal before the fact, and desu I personally quite like his work

You can really tell what some artists liked to draw - the scaling of the people to the nature in this one obviously suggests that the artist enjoyed painting nature more than people.
>>6895830
I wonder how much easier it is to paint landscapes compared to detailed figures.
>>6889802
Not for that one. You may be thinking of the paintings of people touching the foreskin of the baby Jesus. I can't remember why they did that, but I remember it being big in art for a while.
>>6891776
