The opposite is true though. Most people die before they hit the ground. I interpreted it as "It's not the impact velocity that kills you, it's the force." Which I don't think makes sense.

read that more closely. That article is stating that the brain does not act quickly enough for one to experience an impact, not that one would actually die before hitting the ground.
