Although these pictures look like actually edited with photoshop or something similar, you can get nice effects by replacing byte orders in images. I wrote a tool for that on /g/ once.
If you're running GNU+Linux, you can use sed too:
sed -i s/search/replace image.jpg

or save the picture as .raw and open it in audacity and add reverb, change frequencies etc
