pros and cons ?
give me (you)s please
>>6670474
bad
>>6670468
Not him but lets see...
Pros:
>Arch based, access to the AUR and uses Pacman, and anything that applies to Arch generally applies to Manjaro in terms of guides and tutorials
>Rolling release
>Has its own repo, packages get tested slightly longer than Arch's packages, so not as bleeding edge
>Comes preinstalled with just about anything you need, and the net edition lets you install what ever DE you want on top of that
>Nice script (mhwd) for managing GPU drivers and different kernels on the same system
>Actively developed
Cons:
>Some of the stuff that comes with some editions could be considered bloat
>Rolling release is a double edged sword, it generally doesn't break anything especially since the packages are held back longer than those of Arch, but installing your own stuff from, say, the AUR might bring up a conflict in an update
>>6670468
Manjaro is pretty light and fairly user friendly, I think it is easier to install than any Windows I've worked with. I honestly can't think of a complaint but a lot of elitest don't like it because it's built on top of Arch. The only compatibility complaint I've heard is someone could get an NVIDIA driver right away but they still managed to get it to work. I probably bias because it was my first distro but I'd recommend it.

desktop threads were a fucking joke on /g/
multiple threads every day with the same people posting their weeb setup over and over again
people competing to be the first one to create a thread just so more people will see their setup
then you had the people who didn't make it in time to create a thread so they will post in every desktop thread that pops up to secure their spot at the top for more exposure
most people weren't even rating or having any sort of a discussion because it was filled with the same people with the same screenshots

>>6671628
I remember your post a couple months back I think when you first got things set up like this, don't see much change but I still like it. still running tint2 for the bar I see but if it suits you then that's cool, I know you wanted that transparency for the bar.

Where do desktop threads live now?
>>6673230
most of the /g/ posters moved to /trash/ and /w/
>>6673232
> /w/
Nope.
They were pushed out because they move too quickly compared to other threads.
>>6673234
So where are they now?
I still find it stupid that they even had to leave /g/ in the first place -- there's far more irrelevant threads to technology there but I guess desktops are insane.
#6673236
all the good ricers moved to /trash/ the rest only act smug because they were made fun of on /g/ for having bad desktops.
>>6673236
call me a desktop thread shill but I still feel it's less cancerous than the thread that pops up every hour now baiting /g/ into flaming some dude who posts about Windows 10 being the superior OS and Linux being inferior in every way
fair enough though I guess
I'll have to go find a rice thread on an archive to get the IRC probably and some more info that was in the OP usually :(
>>6673249
>I'll have to go find a rice thread on an archive to get the IRC
What IRC do you want?
The one with the people from /g/'s desktop threads, or the one dedicated to general ricing?
Folks who tile? Do you prefer awesome or i3. I've been using awesome for 2 years. Can it be riced to the same extent?
>>6673261
Both would be good but I'm assuming the one with /g/ people is more active/has desktops that are more my style.
>>6673272
it can be riced a lot more than i3 if you know lua. i think people who use xmonad or awesome without any haskell/lua knowledge are dumb, but you could probably get somewhere copy/pasting.
>>6673275
what do you recommend for people who have no coding knowledge to start off with?
>>6673274
Well, the one with /g/'s people rarely talk about desktops. They're also not more active than the other one, because the other one has people from reddit too.
The one you probably want to go to is #rice on rizon.
>>6673276
For tiling definately i3. It's easy, and has relativle sane default configs. At least the keybindings and stuff, the default look is horrible.
>>6673275
I knew other languages so it wasn't an issue. I learned lua by messing around with awesome wm.
However I was getting a bit frustrated with the behavior when I open new programs under a certain layout. Not much dynamic layout control. Looking for that is how I came across i3
>>6673278
heh, still pass me the /g/ one and I'm guessing they talk about muh animu and shit but that's fine.
I'm still the guy earlier who was offering cash for someone to RICE but I'll give it a shot myself. I really like i3-gaps so ill mess with that, but the issue is I know next to nothing about coding. I mean I'm competent enough to operate a terminal, install arch, etc etc

What is the font? Seems a bit large, but I like it. Color scheme is a bit jarring, and your GTK scrollbar is really out of place.
Maybe consider editing your GTK theme to not show it instead. Who actually uses the physical scrollbar anyways?
The shadows are a bit diluted, if that wording makes any sense. It'd look better with them not there at all, but lightschemes really do shine with good shadows. Consider something along the lines of 1px drop and 2px blur. I know it's a pain in the ass with compton, but it's worth it.
>>6670361
Awful fonts and shadows. Nice colorscheme though. Maybe ditch the conky, since it's not like you're going to really need to check your disk space, CPU temperature, or even your time that often.
>>6670074

Very high potential. Let me guide you through making that usable and maximum nerdcred -
Remove transparency from your terminal.
Put pink borders around it.
Add 10px padding to it.
Change the font to a harsh bitmap font, or the font you use in your taskbar/dmenu.
At the current state though, it looks just plain bad.

look again
and no matter what windows version, 7/8.1/10, you can completely kill updates not by blocking but by turning the service off.
>>6675102
>Maybe because linux software is superior compared to the micro$oft alternative?
you're absolutely right so why don't you just use linux?

if you want to actually rice windows, use 7/8.1
if you want to rice linux on windows instead of just using linux for whatever reason, any of them will do
>>6675119
well, what do these people do? they get pretty good looking results -- but i don't assume it's cygwin or anything, right?
>>6675122
It's cygwin.
>>6675123

>>6675126

you can make windows 10 look pretty good on it's own
http://nanami-tan.info/
this was made for Windows 7 but most of it still applies to 10.

Congratulations, you are not banned.
Anyone using the Moko firefox theme knows how to deactivate the autohide url?

Is it possible to rebind mouse2 to pan the pdf file in zathura (i.e. to have it do what mouse3 is doing by default)? Documentation isn't helping at all and :map/:unmap don't seem to work either.
Why are there no sane pdf viewers for linux. :(
>>6675475
>using the moko firefox theme
it became so bad lmao
>>6675487
mupdf is sane and good
also git gud
>>6675523
mupdf is the backend I use for zathura anyway, but as your only viewer it's pretty terrible - no dual page view, no configuration possible (bar forking it and making your own changes), no djvu support (of course) and no tabs.
>>6675539
Just give up then get a full featured PDF reader.
Zathura and mudf has a minimalist slant and has less features.
>>6675543
That's the thing - zathura is just _perfect_ I really only want to change the damn mouse bindings. If it's not possible to do in zathurarc I'll write it myself; just wanted to ask first.
>>6675544
https://pwmt.org/projects/zathura/documentation/
Theres a section on mouse bindings
>>6675642
>https://pwmt.org/projects/zathura/documentation/
Would be helpful if it wasn't outdated shit, the stuff for mouse bindings doesn't work.
>>6671628
9/10

Kinda new to this whole thing, how do you get a taskbar like that? Don't like the one that comes with Manjaro.
>>6675274
>http://nanami-tan.info/
By making Windows 10 look good on it's own, what do you mean? Visual styles?
so from what I gather from W10 ricing it's pretty much install cygwin and get the linux alternative to things -- or just install programs that can be skinned
you're also shit out of luck on changing stuff like file explorer to look nice?

If you only use floating then you would probably like Openbox.

At least use tree style tabs or something if you need that many tabs open.
