What keeps you coming back to /wg/?
I've caught myself wondering sometimes why I spend so much time here and I realized that I've learned a lot from you guys through being inspired to mess with new skills and hobbies.
I keep coming back because I can't find perfect phone wallpaper.
Inspired me to start taking photography as a hobby. And wanting to take wallpaper quality pictures. That one thread was beautiful.
Inspired me to teach myself how to use photoshop and make all electronics unique and shit
/wg/ is one place I have consistently seen humanity in the world, making it a good safe haven to return to after a long day in the real world.
Also some people make some truly bitchin wallpapers, so there's that.
>>6664586
Collecting wallpapers have been my hobby since I first got a computer.
The stages I went through were:
>default pictures on the computer or some crappy screenshot I made 6-9
>those crappy photoshopped pictures of monocolored things and something rainbow in it when I was 9-13
>gore 13
>minimalist 14-16
>bright and colorful shit 16-now
>nautical things 17
>astronauts, less saturated stuff, cute pixel art, quotes on a background 16-now
>>6664586
The papes are nice and the people are too.
>>6664673
>Collecting wallpapers
gotta say I love it
Idk why because I have more papes than I'd ever be able to use but I just getting more and more. It's like shopping but free.
>>6664586
Not much anymore. I am super sick of birthday threads for sure. I also feel like I see the same shit over and over. I dunno, maybe just cynical. Anyways at this point I think I come back to scour threads of interest for the 1 paper I actually want among the chaff, so its sorta like a game.
Basically the same reason as you OP. It's also by far the most relaxed board on here, probably because there isn't really anything to argue about.
>>6664609
This.
Also I got very good at KLWP but now the standard is shit so I rarely give that thread a look and maybe post.
Honestly I first went to this board I was just trying to figure out why anyone would. Even if you like switching wallpapers on a weekly basis (which I do), why wouldn't you just use google? Then I started to enjoy the different styles, how people set up their UI, etc. I enjoy photography and over the last couple of years I've been getting good with gimp so this is right up my alley. I can appreciate a clean desktop better than I can apprentice an artist painting.
>>6664586
Sometimes I like to look at a picture make up a story to go along with it in my head.
chilling to any kind of music and browsing to clear my mind of thoughts. I get myself all worked up sometimes and I just need to take a step back before I move forward to try to tackle the problem again. And... collecting wallpapers is nice. I've far to many to use, but I still collect.
>>6665091
Yep. Not much beats just browsing cool walls and listening to good music. Its a great way to see stuff from people all over the world and I like that too
Because there are works of arts that i never would have seen if not for this board.
I ended up discovering an entirely new genre of art and music that I enjoy greatly through this board (Synthwave, who would've known?!) It's like looking through all of these images and seeing little bits and pieces of the lives and thoughts of other people helps me to discover a little bit more about myself. I feel at home here.
Tits. Tits on other boards feel different.
>>6664690
this. nowhere on 4chan I found a board with such a friendly community like the one on /wg/
thanks y'all
>>6664888
>I am super sick of birthday threads for sure
Yeah, I'm thinking the anons accusing the OP of lying are too.
>feel like I see the same shit over and over
Agree there too, for me it feels like all the wallpapers are starting to blur together. Not much stands out anymore, so now I'm just fishing around on other sites for new content and come here to post it.
>>6666462
yea those origami dudes are real cunts.
I guess my reply is because I feel at home.
I always had issue finding things I like at 100% or very close, and /wg/ always fulfilled that need. I started collecting Wallpapers as a hobby too. And, like most of anons, I had an evolution of taste, liking different things and all.
Pic related is the 1st wallpaper I got when I got my own PC.
>>6664586
I've been collecting/changing wallpapers ever since I first started using the big cubic family desktop, and I never found anyone else who understood my hobby of looking for more wallpapers. I didn't even look into /wg/ when I first started using 4chan though, that wasn't until 3-4 years ago. Never thought it was super weird to change my wallpaper all the time until I got a cell phone and my friends commented on how it's always something different.
I especially come here because you guys have the exact same things in mind when I'm looking for a wallpaper. The comfy kind of stuff that makes me fantasize about a whole other life when I stare at it - the environments, the rain, seasons, landscapes, stuff like that. You guys get me. Thanks.
Here's my current wp by the by.
always waiting for that one thread anon, i always wait
>>6664606
This and also Cuz it's one of the most relaxing boards
>>6664917
We could start a debate about that fucking res.
>>6664586
The shear amount and diversity of papes.
And mostly personnal collections that other users share without asking for anything
/wg/ is kind of relaxing to me and feels peaceful. When the majority of wp's in the current folder sems old I start a new one. There are so many different styles and themes here, so its easy to get a good start.
>>6664586
I don't go on many different boards on 4chan but I can say that the poeple in this one are the nicest. I've never read mean comments. Besides that, I like to change weekly or every ten days my pape and when I don't find something good or new in my folders I always love coming here and search for something. There all the fuck I want here, I always discover new things and shit.
I like to collect wallpapers. Over the years I've gathered near 80k of them and I'm still looking for new ones, and this is a great place to do that. Also, the IMT thread is a good thread for practicing my photoshop skills, so I like to glance in it every so often.
See OP, I've come here out of boredom, but I just keep coming back. I feel like every paper tells a story and we either choose to decipher or ignore.
Some people find deep insight into a wallpaper. Others just say, that's cool, that's my new wallpaper.
I always love the people here. /wg/ tells you happy birthday when people forget. /wg/ shares a paper with you when you ask and you share them back.
I feel like you guys are my friends when my friends are gone. I feel happy. Even when threads are slow I still comeback.
It's not as hectic as /b/, pityful as /r9k/, judgemental as /mu/, or acts like any other board.
This was one of my first boards ever.
People help you here with photoshops and image modification threads.
People on /b/ would call you a faggot.
People on /wg/ would help given you follow the rules.
Feels threads on /b/ are just screen caps.
Feels threads here are conversations where people can just let themselves go.
Even provocative threads here are nice. They just barely push the line and manage to be 'artistic' and 'tasteful' without being full on erotic somehow
And out of the boards I frequent, this is the one I come back too.
I love you guys, I love you a lot. I really do. And I'll keep coming here until something happens.
>>6671692
forgot my pape to go with it.damn it
>>6671692
>>6671694
I feel the same way, I just keep coming back.
Thanks for the heartfelt response anon, and keep rockin the papes.
>>6665038
Great pape, anon
>>6671694
It's so ridiculous how comfy this pape is
>>6666473
Oh yeah man. I love bringing in new shit, but I don't do it often enough. By the way, nice fucking pape.
>>6664586
Probably because this is by far the nicest board, even though we don't usually talk much. I feel like it fits me as a person. The wallpapers work as a bonus been collecting now for a while, keep finding some real gems here every now and then.
Because I fucking love Windows 10's lock screen slideshow feature and I have so many god damned wallpapers just for it
So I come here for a lot of the reasons that other anons have said: it's relaxing, the people are nice, it's a cool way to expose yourself to new art. Imma throw a new reason into the ring tho.
Psychologically, it's interesting to see what images people surround themselves with when they can choose absolutely anything. Do you like to look at nature? Video games? Girls? Esoteric japanese artists? Whatever it is, it definitely says something about you; why don't you tell us what that is?
I've started writing now, after spending quite a few years just browsing.
The sedate and reflective atmosphere of this board brings a lot of ideas to mind.
Plus the wallpapers are great.
>>6664586
>What keeps you coming back to /wg/?
wallpapers.
>>6667668
I agree with you
Browsing /wg/ feels like going on a journey to places or moments that I never knew existed - or ones that I thought existed only inside my mind. It's peaceful and beautiful and makes me feel somehow... connected.
>>6671694
I love this wallpaper! And hey, even though I don't know you, I love you too anon! Here's my favorite wallpaper by the way.
It's comfy here. There's not really a bunch of bullshit on this board. No sifting through layers upon layers of irony and sarcasm to enjoy it. Not really any meme crap. Just people posting, requesting, and modifying bitchin' wallpapers.
for those rare moments when someone doesn't post the same wallpaper for the 6283rd time
I'm watching for the day when there will finally be a Vaporwave thread that's not crammed with meme shit.
In the meantime, I like space and house porn threads.
I just enjoy looking at wallpapers. Something about them is pleasant.
The community is very nice and relaxed, and the wallpapers look absolutely stunning a lot of times.
>all these good vibes
/wg/ is a comfy board
This thread is so comfy
>this thread
wow, I just started visiting /wg/, I like it already
come here for the walls mostly, but agree with everyone else in this thread that everyone in /wg/ is nice and i don't feel judged. i still browse /b/ but every other post is faggot this and faggot that. here is just nice and relaxed, and i can discuss things without being ridiculed
>>6682284
just posting another wall in this cool thread
comfy breads
i wish there were more
>>6682457
Kek
For escapism. I like the nature and fantasy WPs the most because I hate living in a city.
>>6671692
Gay
/wg/ is that friend who never picks on the song you put on
>>6671606
rip haribo
I just like losing myself in pictures. Imagine myself in the scenery feeling comfy and shit.
This was a good thread. Here's some OC
For the quality imagery, of course.
WG has yet to let me down. Slow, sometimes, but even then there's always something that puts a smile on my face.
First post here, BTW. Apologies, in advance, if I fucked this up.
>>6684806
>Apologies, in advance, if I fucked this up.
The only way you fucked up is by not posting before now. Lurking isn't bad, but the real experience comes from talking and contributing.
>>6664586
It's strange for me. Although this is my favorite board I don't come here that often.
I don't know why, there's no better board for relaxation than this one with music playing on another tab.
I like wallpapers, my slideshow is around 300. Also, Android build times are atrocious, so I need a light site I can browse more or less safely at work.
>>6664917
>nothing to argue about
Wow I never thought of that, even the other creative boards are constantly shitting on eachother over technical skill and doing it "right" esp /ic/
>>6664586
Cuz this board is very /comfy/
I actually originally came for DaS stuff but stayed after seeing all the space related wallpapers cuz I realized I really like them
>>6664690
Also there isn't any fighting sides here, except some trashposters.
Good quality wallpapers. Also in terms of quality, this board is better from other boards.
>>6665543
They make you feel guilty. Here they feel, I dare say it, artistic.
>>6671694
You are a hero my friend. I lost this one and couldn't find it in the same HQ.
>>6686950
I have been visiting /wg/ for a while now and I haven't seen a single fight. Even grotesque words are used jokingly. It feels like you're out of 4chan for a while.
I've been a part of /wg/ since we still had the old weegee up for the sticky post. I've loved this board for many reasons. When I was still in college I would come home after a long day, crank some weird vibey tunes and zone out to some papes.
/wg/ has been my home since 2011 when I was a senior in high school, and it shall remain that way.
Homepage since 2013 boi, step up. Here's a photo I took of my fat ass beardie not too long ago. Thanks for letting me rant.
>>6664704
Fuckin' A, man.
Right there with you.
Because I love collecting wallpapers that make me take a moment and say "wow"
Also, I hadn't noticed until you guys mentioned it, but it does feel like this is a chill board.
I like coming to /wg/ because not only is it a smaller board where the turnover isn't as much, but it's more friendly and welcoming. People don't trash others, and when people do start talking, everyone is civil and supportive. I took a long break, over a year, from /wg/, and coming back it feels like nothing has changed, and I love it.
As well, learning about ricing and such inspired me to get into DIY. I got into woodworking partially because I learned about customizing my computer, and I wanted customized furniture.
>>6675074
you just opened my eyes to this psychological point of view anon, and I thank you for writing exactly my thoughts
>>6665476
wow, way to put it. been here since 2009 and this is exactly how I feel. probably how I would have worded it too
>>6682569
City has it's advantages, living out in the nature has inconveniences because you are away from some of the discoveries of modern life.
If you can stand loneliness and manual labour and power outages try living in a village for a while.
Who knows, you might like it.
As for me, I come here once a month to pick a new wallpaper. Then I chill until the next month comes.
>>6686980
autistic*
Ever since I've discovered this board about a month ago, I have found myself a new set of hobbies: from growing a collection of carefully curated wallpapers to ricing my first ever homescreen (and soon enough, my desktop and startpage). While this board has inspired others to take up photography or image manipulation, /wg/ inspired me to take on web design.
I have been learning so much, thanks to /wg/ and the community.
>>6664586
I used to collect pornographic images, and this helps quitting that. Plus the wallpapers I find here are so cool and comfy and it's more rewarding
This board is super comfy and everyone is very friendly
>>6687616
artistic*
>>6664586
>What keeps you coming back to /wg/?
Inability to find a perfect wallpaper which I could keep using forever, or at least for a long time. I'm a very picky shitter.
>>6664586
I cant afford to travel, so I like to have an entire folder dedicated to nature shots, land marks, cities and pics from national geographic as my back ground of places I hope to visit one day. Each time I get a new one it motivates me to keep going
Also I find you guys to all be pretty chill. Theres not a lot of shit posting or fighting among posters here like on other boards. everyone is pretty cool and motivates one another, giving good advice on photography or specific threads and we all come together and appreciate art
The comfy threads. I love the comfy wallpapers, I love to imagine myself in them or daydream a storyline to them.
This place is great.
There's the same reason as everyone else, board is comfy, nice people, nice wallpapers. But what's different is the kind of people you meet, everyone is so varied and yet so similar that you don't feel so weird. Meeting people who like jazz, black and white movies, or even collecting porn is cool for someone who's never meet someone like that before. It makes you feel like your accepted and not fucking weird, it's hard to explain.
>>6671606
Can confirm, this is by far the nicest board. I've been going to /pol/ a lot recently because of how hectic this election cycle has been (t. American). People there are really great, but there's a lot of insults and swearing, tensions are high and after every Trump speech the board is flooded with shills and most of the non-election threads are derailed, ignored or slid.
I like coming here after all that madness. It's a great way to relax and unwind.
>>6665038
This right here, this anon gets it
>>6687863
*shitty picker
if /wg/ had a theme, it would be the rainymood, turnabout jazz-fragrance of dark coffee, and fireplace crackling classy meme that was big for awhile.
>>6664586
I come here strictly for new wallpapers, the conversation on this board has to be some of the worst because nothing holds anyone back from posting since there is nothing to learn.
>>>6688203
>>6664586
/wg/ is an incredibly chill board. Sometimes I just play some music and browse for maybe an hour or two. Really puts your mind at ease.
>>6664586
Relative freedom from ideology while still feeling like I'm among other humans.
Also wallpapers. I like changing my wallpaper often.
I come here for dank papes, but I figure that every time I come here, it's like a kind of clearance is granted upon me upon arrival. Felt it also when I'm lurking or 'booting in gondola threads, but this whole board is like one huge gondola thread, in a sense. Seeing stuff that pleases the eye and sometimes the mind brings peace. I enjoy being here. It's kinda like a hidden cove where you go from time to time to relax.
I don't even know this place so much as to say anything how is it like, but thanks for keeping this board up, fellow anons. Whenever I pass by, I'm grateful of you passing by as well.
