War is hell
>>6635592
There are lot of good arguments for war... none of them are actually used:
1. population control
2. war is actually very good for technology
3. war is also good for medicine
4. and war is good for evolution of mankind (survival of the fittest)
5. finally war reminds us how important peace is...
>>6635767
None of those are good reasons at all.
Are you thirteen years old?
>>6635767
kill yourself. war is also good for treating men like toy soliders and giving them crippling fear and depression, and after that extreme PTSD. and don't forget about their families too, who have to sit home and hope that their son/brother doesn't get shot or blown to pieces today.
none of the reasons you listed were good. let me tell you what is not good; losers like you who have that opinion only to be edgy and seem more intelligent than others (ain't hard to tell that's you intention). now piss off you thirteenyear old.

good luck when someone invades your country and you're gonna be obliged to enroll in the army to protect your own countries values and sakes :^)
itt: fags that have never been deployed telling people what war is like.

>Molds of wounded soldiers faces to make prosthetic.
So the molds are of the patients and at the bottom is what they will wear?
>>6636153
Yup.
They did a pretty good job considering the time period. Post WW1 medical science is a neat topic, really.
>>6636159
Yeh thanks!
I don't know why, but seeing all these images of hell on earth motivates me like nothing else.
Those motivational wallpaper threads do nothing for me.
Seeing real people endure suffering and death is what gets me going.
I'm worried I'll drift off into a /k/ jerk off session, so I'll stop here.

That's begrudgingly accepting that it must be done. War is bloody work and no one really comes out unfucked.
Also "War is good for tech/medicine/"the ee-kon-uh-mee" piss off. War doesn't make researchers and engineers work faster or better. It makes sloppy workers. Peace produces excess. Excess begets humanitarian aid and luxury. People like war because they feel bigger than themselves. You know what's bigger than either of us? Amazon. Google. Microsoft. Elon Musk's crazy space company. All of those are peaceful goals. Goals that don't leave people dead.
>>6636187
Besides that, most of the technology produced during war time is simply more weaponry for the NEXT war.
Ad infinitum.
>>6636191
Yyyeeep. Also
> Population control
Lost it at that.

Reverse image search brings this up. Try it next time. I'd forgotten about this stuff completely. It's not really a standard history book thing.

Those aren't good reasons to go to war. They're benefits. War is in mankind's nature, it won't end until we die out. But there's no truly good reason to go to war unless you're being attacked. There's reasons that make sense, like resources, but never a "good" reason except for that.
Obligatory

Back story
The man being executed was a known criminal in the area and the man on the left was some sort of army official
The man who executed the criminal immigrated to America in the 1970s along with the hundreds of thousands of Viet refugees thanks to President Ford
The man who carried the execution along with his wife opened a restaurant in San Francisco (I think) and people started to realise that he was the man who executed the criminal in the photo and got shit for it for the rest of his life, dying in 1998
>>6635926
This. War now is sitting in a camp in Iraq for the duration of your deployment with nothing happening save the occasional mudslime taking potshots at you from 10 miles away. Horrifying really.
>>6635767
Ok, but no one uses those as reasons for war, those are byproducts.
1. Not the best way to do that
2. For military technology that sometimes leads to civilian technology but not always, and again, not the best way to do that
3. kinda same as number 2
4. that's a really weird perversion of darwin's theories
5. I guess that's true, but that's like saying we should all stab ourselves to remind ourselves how much it sucks to get stabbed
>>6636187
This is true. If I personally were to ever fight in a war it would be because I felt like I had a duty to, not because of the "benefits". War is a necessary evil, with the necessary part being debatable.
>>6636962
North Virginia, actually.

I thought it was East Virginia?
>>6636150
I looked into this statue because i saw it in both this photograph and the more recent footage of a suicide bombing in Volgograd about a year or so ago. I couldn't find a explanation other than the soviets built some random and strange statues and they kept this one because it had become iconic.

Exactly. War is like 1% adrenaline 99% boredom. Unless you're in the Korengal or some shit like that, fuck that noise.
Just like the neo-commies that think they wont be the ones in the bread line, people that say war has it benefits think that they wont be the one thats huddled in a ditch pissing themselves cause they have incoming.
Cawadooty sure makes it look good tho dont it.

would you want to be brutally tortured and maimed before being shot like a dog?
Your faces when ACTUAL world war breaks out in your lifetime, while you circle-jerk over award-winning, bleak photos of death.
But this time, there'll be too many photos to choose from, and then there'll be none at all.

war is the realm of man. It is where he belongs. People crave war, and when they exit war they miss it like a lover. We have a whole generation that can't handle the thought of killing just because some fuccbois wrote songs about how they were too pussy to shoot gooks.
>>6636187

>falling for actual nazi propaganda
The 1918 uprising was lead by socialists, yes, but proto-nazis, the right wingers of the time, published propaganda to state that the failed uprising was caused by the "socialist joows," a tactic that would be used multiple times to lead to Hitler's eventual reign.

Retired grunt checking in. Korengal is hell on earth, you couldn't name a more dangerous place in the world. And if there isn't a firefight going on, it's utter boredom, we would stun gun each other, play cards, argue, or fight. A lot of the guys in our platoon went home different people, a lot of them were so happy to leave, but when I saw them in a different setting, all it seemed like they wanted to do was go back.
I don't know if I was lucky to come home still me, but I could just be thinking that. Pretty much all of my "friends" stopped talking to me whereas before my deployments they invited me places and always came over. I'm not angry or depressed though, because I can still function in society I guess my friends just don't look at me the same.
Don't mean to sound super depressing, but war isn't peace and love and I just wanted to throw my two cents in if that's cool.
