Are effective urban planning policies and (for westerners) exotic architecture basically what make so many asian cities look so aesthetic? So many Old World and older New World cities look so good. Even industrial areas look neater and better kempt than what I'm used to seeing.
I'm going back in September. Been 4 years. I'll be visiting Tokyo and the surrounding areas for 2 weeks.
>>6615092
this one is simply fantastic
anybody here remeber a pic of a japanese neighbourhood at night and a black lamborghini in the middle?
great thread guys
kek i was trying to post some pictures that i downloaded from flickr but weight like 20megs and it wouldn't let me.
anyways, living in Tokyo has to be a fucking dream, city wherever you look for miles and miles, but japan transport is so good and the island relatively small you can be anywhere withing hours, Japan must be a dream.
You may already have this one, but I'll leave here just in case you don't
Didn't see this one here
>>6615316
I love Japanese manhole covers.
>>6623133
This one?
>tfw Blade Runner is my favorite movie of all time and always wished I could live in the movie
>tfw Japan is the real life version of it, but I still haven't gone there
>tfw I just want to stand on a rainy urban street corner with a transparent umbrella while being illuminated by neon signs in Japanese
>>6624113
same place? it looks like the same place
Christ guys, Japan doesn't only look good at night. Gimme some lively Japan pictures please.

Went to Tokyo two years ago. Best city I've ever been in
>>6626764
went there last year, my camera broke the day i depart to japan.
Had to be content with my shitty cellphone camera
>>6626764
Tokyo looks so comfy , it can go from technological neon city to a quiet japanese street.
All in one giant city.
>>6626868
One of my fav things was going on nightly walks and finding small narrow city streets that were dead quiet
Any more from this place? Thanks!!!
>>6624709
lol this is a gran turismo render
>>6615147
Very nice
>>6624904
Make sure you get around to going anon. I've been twice now and it really is everything you hope it to be.
Good god I had no idea I wanted a thread like this so bad...
I would really love to live in Japan, but nowhere near the cities. Their architecture compared to the west is extremely cramped and cluttered, and for some reason they haven't learned how to put powerlines under the street which makes everything look like a tangled mess.
Though I do appreciate their utilization and coziness of alley ways unlike here in the west our alleys are used for dumpsters and homeless folks.
>>6628720
>I would really love to live in Japan, but nowhere near the cities.
>go to japan
>not go to the cities
its like going to disney world but avoiding all the mickey mouse rides
>>6628720
>Their architecture compared to the west is extremely cramped and cluttered, and for some reason they haven't learned how to put powerlines under the street which makes everything look like a tangled mess.
Ever been to New York bud? The world is full of cramped cities and the above ground power lines are from generations ago. Also care to tell us how exactly they "utilize" their alley ways? Seeing as your're the expert on Japan and all.
>>6621972
I've never visited Japan but from what friends tell me it's very surreal to go there and walk around. The Japanese are doing something that makes their cities and even small towns look "different".
i wish Flickr would have more Tokyo pictures, i check every few weeks but they don't update often.
fucking people, take more pictures of Tokyo.
it might be because i filter everything that is not HD tho.
>>6629707
i think its all the lights, japan looks so colorful and alive in pictures, it has tons of lights tons of colors.
>>6624904
I know that feel bro you're not alone
If you look in a lot of these images, the common theme is that it's clean. The Japanese don't have trash bins all over the place. Trash is picked up in the dead of night once everyone has gone home. It's also orderly in the way people move about. In America, we just walk and go wherever we want without much regard for other people. Japanese people don't do that as much.
>>6620853
Im not.

i climbed Fuji-sama 5 years ago to the day. Unforgettable.
>>6620727
Tears of the Sun movie billboard in the background. This image must be old. That movie is great, though
I just got back from a trip to japan and korea a little while ago, ill post as i have time
>>6615320
I like this image, but I thought the contrast could use a slight adjustment.
>>6636214
Converted this one down since it was 7.4mb
>>6629707
I've been several times, and from the north american perspective the differences stems from a couple of things
- clean
- rather old architecture/tiling, similar to what you'll find in parts of china and I can't find a western analogy
- very small, tightly packed buildings
- Busy vertical space with LOTS of wires, signage, trees, etc
This thread is great.
>>6641275
Best Japan thread I've seen on /wg/.
>>6638233
there's a higher res of this?
This thread giving me wanderlust so bad.
>>6642191
I think? That one looks pretty high res to me, I just put it through a site that compressed the mb's so i could post it here
We all know that nearly every picture that goes in this thread comes from 3 Flickr account.
So why repost them all ?
>>6624904
I recommend you to watch Enter The Void. You will like the aesthetic !
Listening to Aoi Teshima while scrolling trough this thread is so perfect
I'm gonna post some of my photos from japan last year. This thread is makeing me nostalgic.
Went picking shellfish at these mudflats. Place looked desolate but the floor is teeming with life.
>>6643166
This is at Yakushima, very southern island notable for being the inspiration behind Princess Mononoke. Was one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to.
Also, I'm not a photographer in any way, but thought some might like the photos.

Nagasaki. Really recommend visiting. Interesting history outside of the atom bomb: the first point that dutch traders had with Japan so lots of western influence there.

I'll be there for a month (August), mainly in Tokyo and Yokohama. Any recommendations?
>>6643433
>>6643434
Didn't go to Yokohama, but in Tokyo I definitely recommend just walking around random residential areas on a nice, sunny day. Wander around, see what you find, enjoy the sights and sounds. Visit Joypolis, go to Akihabara, Hamamatsucho, Tokyo Tower and Skytree if it's a good day with little clouds/smog/haze, eat from all the convenience stores you can, drink anything you like from vending machines, Roppongi has a pretty nice nightlife, and go to the Ninja Restaurant, amazing experience.

it's the cleanliness, the compactness, and the world-class infrastructure. you guys rebuild your biggest cities like every twenty fuckin' years because poseiden won't give you a break with typhoons, and earthquakes happen every second tuesday.
your EMTs must be good too.

damn son where did u find this
>>6646756
No, we are actually born to fuck...
>>6625549
Is that yokohama? looks like yokohama streets.
>>6643434
Relatively speaking I'd argue Yokohama is more friendly to foreigners, it has had a proportionally large foreign population, having been a thoroughly used port in the past. Go there, explore, there's a lot more open space than Tokyo so you can use up a lot of time!
>>6643449
totally thought that was Infiltration for a second
>>6647007
This is beautiful and did you take it
>>6647007
love how we can see the photographer in the glass
>>6647645
i dont even think its just that. the us navy has a massive base in yokosuka. there are thousands of sailors in the yokohama area.
>>6649840
There's definitely truth in that. However, the port has been around longer and has had a huge influx of foreigners much before the US made their bases there. If you go to the graveyards there, you'll find gravestones of not only Americans but a lot of Europeans as well.

from far away, the two bird-printings on those things look like a mustached face to me
Amazing thread. Surprised I haven't seen some of these.
>>6646756
Well...actually we kind of are. In capitalist societies at least. Think about it, what is the point of breeding at all in today's world? It used to be a matter of survival, however, now an isolated life devoid of devoid of a close support structure is completely attainable if not encouraged. The only way for the modern capitalist society to survive is to pay bills and procreate to create more bill payers.
I live in Japan and it's a really beautiful country but it's not without its flaws. Someone in this thread mentioned good urban planning for example which is absolutely not a characteristic of Tokyo; it's a mishmash of random streets going every which way held together by its admittedly great public transit system (even though that system also has a lot of waste).
the most successful japan thread ive seen
will bump to image limit

wonderful thread
one of the best threads ive seen in /wg/

Bump for the last time. I'll be in Tokyo next month for 2 weeks. When I get back to the States I'll upload my photos to another Japan thread.
