How are you guys able to use bbzero ?
I'm new to ricing and was looking to get a nice thin text-based taskbar. So someone on another thread told me to get BBzero.

But man it just fucks up my W10 bad. It crashes, glitches, and I don't understand how it works.

I just want a taskbar :'(
>>
>>2020427
Not understanding how it works is how everyone starts out. It's certainly not tested and used as much as explorer.exe so crashes are to be expected. Here's what my desktop looked like back when I was using bbzero

>>
>>2021264
Honestly, just install Antergos or Manjaro (I use Antergos), because they're almost a complete, easy graphical install. Then, you can install whatever desktop you want, like i3, i3-gaps with i3blocks for example.

Looks, feel and whatnot. If you're comfortable and feel great with what you have, then great. Also, quite obviously, Linux DEs will be different from Windows. Good examples of what looks you can achieve are on (please don't hate on me) the unixporn subreddit for reference. Also, do more research if you do wanna change stuff up.

Come to think of it, Hiro allows one meta thread per board. I think /w/ should discuss and rewrite the rules regarding NSFW material.
/w/'s topic in general doesn't seem like a very workplace-safe one anyways.

I'm running MPD on windows and NCMPCPP on WSL. You can run MPD on WSL too, but you have to jump through a few hoops to get audio working on WSL. Anyways that error occurs because MPD has not been pointed to a directory containing a another directory called "playlists". Also the current build of MPD for windows seems to crash on windows 10 when you try to connect to it, unless you run it in windows 7 compatibility mode.
>>

Have you gotten mpd to work on WSL before though? I've already done the pulseaudio workaround to get audio from WSL but mpd can't seem to create its database file, I've made sure the folders have their correct permissions as well.
>>
>>2031130
What's also strange is that everything else exists and are detected including the playlists folder.
>>
>>2031130
>>2031132
I definitely got audio working in WSL, but now that I think about it I don't remember if I actually got MPD working. I think I had some issues with the db file too. It was a while ago so I don't really remember the specifics. I'll have to revisit that because I don't think there's a way to get the NCMPCPP visualizer working on the windows version of MPD because it requires a fifo output.

>>
>>2032576
I've seen that video before and I know he doesn't talk about i3 gaps. Do you have a guide on installing i3 gaps? I've tried before but maybe I wasn't doing it right. Do you install it after regular i3, or are you meant to not install the regular i3 at all?
>>
>>2032587

The only difference between configuring regular i3 and i3-gaps is the couple of lines regarding the gaps. So you can follow this guide even if you're using i3 gaps.

As for installing i3-gaps it kind of depends. First of all, i3-gaps overwrites i3, so you can install i3 followed by i3-gaps. But it doesnt really matter as far as i know.

Actually getting i3-gaps on your system depends on what distro you're on. Manjaro has a package in their repository as well as an i3-gaps spin if you want everything set up for you. Arch has it in the AUR, but for most other distros you'll probably have to get it from github.
https://github.com/Airblader/i3
I'm not particularly good at linux, but i recently swapped from manjaro i3 to ubuntu, and i literally just copy pasted the dependencies followed by the compile stuff on this page; https://github.com/Airblader/i3/wiki/Compiling-&-Installing. Dont know how well this works on other distros, but on ubuntu it was fine.
>>
>>2032587
It depends on your distro, but it isn't overly hard and it is well worth it.

Just don't forget to add the actual gaps exclusive settings to your config and then wonder why it doesn't work!
>>
>>2032587
>>2032602
And if you're complete monkey-tier *AND* using Ubuntu, some pajeet made a copy/paste guide: https://gist.github.com/doubtingben/60a228c06a48a5b8601ea5e94e4ab22c

This is the next iteration. i3-gaps and no titlebars like >>2032576 suggested.
>>
>>2032618

Looks a lot better.

I'm probably going to get a lot of shit for this, but /r/unixporn is pretty decent for picking up some tricks when it comes to ricing i3. It's expected of people to post their dotfiles along with their rice, so its a lot easier to learn from there than it is here.
>>
>>2032619
Most stuff here and on /r/unixporn are edgy dark themes, so it's pretty hard to find a good light theme. Besides that, I don't want to invest too much time in ricing. I'll just keep monitoring for better themes than I'm currently using.
What I have right now is fine by me. The content is light and I there's a clear difference between windows and text/code.
