Post your vector requests and recently done vectors here.
>Previous thread → >>1984859

READ THE OP BEFORE POSTING!

>Before requesting, here are some tips:
– Request an image ONCE per thread. Do not bump or second - once is enough.
– Check the lists below to see if your request has already been previously fulfilled.
– All requests are welcome, within reason, but remember:
– The poorer the quality of an image (in resolution and drawing ability), the less likely it will be picked up. The more detail seen and higher the resolution, the better.
– Full-body images preferred. Images cut off on 3 or more sides are very unlikely to be picked up due to their limited usage; keep this in mind when finding an image to request. (Hair or skirt edges that are barely cut off don't usually count)
– Requests for removing the background from an image (called a RENDER) and resizing requests should go to the IMT threads.
– Refrain from using renders for requests. Try to find the original non-rendered image; it is easier for vectorists to work with.
– Note: Overly complicated images are unlikely to be picked up due to their nature. IF your request is taken, please have patience.

I really regret choosing this image to vector, the shading is super weird and I don't know whether to ignore that shading and try my own or keep trying to do the shade. Do you have any advice? I'm not sure if it'll be done in time for the competition, either way, depending on when you're closing it

It's definitely a tough pick for a vector trace. It's a nice image but it's very sketchy and would require a lot of guess work to make it sharp the way vectors are. Best option I think would be to not follow the shading too close. The way I'd approach it would be to use the placement of the shading but redo it with gradient meshes into something different. Now, I believe that you work with Inkscape so that's a bit of an issue, gmesh wise.

There's still a month before the contest ends (end of march in theory) so I'd recommend picking an image that would give you a way easier time. One month should still be enough if you can find something you find easier. Try and look for an image where the shading can be reproduced with simple linear or radial gradients, if not just solid shapes.

By the way, how is everyone feeling about ending the contest by the end of march? Should we extend? Also, for those who aren't participating, let me know if you'd be interested in judging for the contest.

To be honest, I wouldn't keep it even - most people have a part or separation somewhere on the top of their head - you could get away with doing two lines that indent veeery slightly near the top, off-center...

I am trying - this IS gradient mesh for the legs panties and stocking.

That's why I am wondering where I am goimg wrong with my poacities. You know the effect I am going for, and it is falling through.

I might just have to go with no transparency for the panties.. 8(

>>

My recommendation, make all of the detail with normal colors, not washed out, and then do a semi-transparent gmesh of the panties. where it contacts the skin make it a bit more saturated since the skin can look darker with wet clothing sticking to the skin.

NSFW still stands for not safe for work, and that includes things like gore and nazi propaganda.
Anything that would get you trouble at the workplace is NSFW.

I don't think /w/ has much business being a blue board though. Or something like /3/. A number of boards should be re-evaluated in this sense.
>>
>>2001950
/w/ has every right being blue - there really should be an /ew/ for ero stuff, or let us use spoilers.

If we could use spoilers for ero and naughty stuff, it'd be a fuckton better.

I just wish the the one and only season didn't bomb the way it did. Maybe then somebody would've scanned that picture in a higher resolution.
A lot of anime never see a second season even when they were successful. But at least they get more artwork which is also more likely to be scanned, and all that jazz. Liking unpopular shows is suffering.

Though I guess it could've been worse if even the manga got axed, so yeah, we got a proper conclusion at least.

I want to say how impressed I am with the artists doing these vector drawings. You guys are amazing! I just finished reading the "how to" guide and wow, it's not only a lot of work, but a lot of talent too! I thought you just run an image through a program like Vector Magic and you're done. I hope everyone requesting pictures read the guide, even if you don't draw, just to see what it takes to get the finished result.
I haven't asked for a render, but I thank you for doing this for us here.

It's criminal that this is the biggest resolution available for this image. There's a magazine scan but it's obstructed by graphics and logos.

Would greatly appreciate anyone's attempt at vectoring this.

If you post the magazine scan as well, if someone chooses to vector it, it would make it easier on them as the feet/etc are obscured in the one you have there.

>>

Got it
>>
>>2004268
If you're using inkscape then gradient mesh works different (i.e. worse) than illustrator. The tool itself is hidden under Preferences > Interface > Keyboard shortcuts > Search - toolmesh > expand Context > assign key
It requires more pre-planning to use effectively or risk having to re-do it entirely. The devs are still working on it, so use at own risk (save often, close and re-launch if it starts to get laggy or something)
>>
>>2004273

I can start one up after tax season. It is a pretty good app and we could have a vectorers only room and a room for people asking for help, saying hi, and whatever else. 2 rooms is not a big deal and will make things easier.
>>
>>2005890

Well, I figured out everything with discord to make it manageable... I think. I am linking this on 4chan after all. Don't tell my boss.

Like the Deviant Art site, I have a members section and an open general section for everyone to comment and ask for help. I would like the members section to be for the same members as DA to reduce spam, not be elitist, so things like contests can be discussed. I expect most of our contact, even as members, will be in general. Again, like DA, everyone is free to view the members section, just not post in it.

You can find the Double-You-Vectors Discord at https://discord.gg/xANpQWd

This link is set to never expire so share with people you may think would be interested.

Would this count as a vector? My friend and I were debating on it, I said it was, what do you guys think?
>>
>>2007251
Technically, no, it's a raster since this is a png file. It'd have to be in a format such as .ai or .svg to be considered a vector. But that's probably not what you were arguing about.

The question is, what tool was it made with? The filename implies it's a 3d model? I'm not sure if 3d shapes at their purest are considered vectors. I'd say they are but I don't know much about 3d.
>>
>>2007258
3D shapes are not pure to the vector format, as they are still a rastered media, scaled by the object. It's complicated - it badsically comes doen to:
* The object itself could be considered a vector, because it is infinitely scalable.
* The SKIN on the object is a raster - even if it is just a solid color.

This being the case, the object is more raster than vector - it's like adding a blur to a vector - it thusly becomes a raster...

>>
>>2009518
I'm sure he'd take it if you gave it to him, if you see anything worth note, let me know and I'll pass it on.
>>
>>2009528
Main issue I can spot is the way he does his lineart, the thickness seems way too inconsistent. I see it go from very thin to very thick in a lot of places which you usually want to avoid because it makes it look lumpy and not very clean. Of course some variation is good but not this much.

A good way to make lineart consistent, if he's not doing so already, is to lay down the nodes in pairs and, for each of these pairs, have the handles in parallel to each other. Then it's just a matter of finding how bold each object should look.

I think he could benefit a lot from that technique to get his lineart to look sharper and cleaner. Might be too late to apply on this vector since he'd pretty much have to start over but I'd recommend practicing this method on his next projects.

I know, like all artistic pursuits, the path is long but that's for me to decide after I give it a try.
>>

If you wanna draw original stuff, I don't think tracing is what you are looking for. It might help in some aspect since there's a lot of observation that goes into vector tracing but overall you're probably better picking up a pen and practicing.

If you are looking for a way to improve already existing images in aspects like resolution and going over mistakes or just rough details then vector tracing is for you.

I'm going to disagree with Deko a little here.

If you are goig to do all the digital work, te best thing you will need is a good tablet from wacom. Once you have it and get comfortale with it, you can do the same steps you do in pencil or pen, but in layers.

Which means, you start your base layer with a "skeleton" and each progressive layer after would be refinement, colors, etc. I'd do it thusly:

Base layer: The skeleton and rough sketch done by hand using the paint tools.
Next layer, the "rough draft" of where you wat to place your lines.
Next upper layer: the actual lines.
* Hide the bottom two lines when you are happy with the lines layer.

Now, it gets tricky. Between these hidden layers, you will put your colors, ranging from the base colors on the bottom and between the lines tot he hilights and shadows depending on which order they need to show over one another.

Hope this helps... Once I am through playing Breath of the wild (yaaay, 100% completion!) I'll probably finish up the three I left off (Sorry bell, fujiyama and mirelle) and do one from scratch...

1. I'd fatten the lineart in the bottom part of the shirt and the nose.

assuming illustrator, tell them to

1. use variable-width strokes with high miter limit
2. outline the paths
3. simplify the paths to reduce anchor points (96-99% accuracy, each separately)
4. use scissors (i believe they're under C by default) to cut off the unneeded parts
5. fill the result with live paint

this has several advantages
- saves fuckton of time and is only a bit slower than using strokes alone
- you're in better control of the widths than if you went for blind bezier wiggling
- because of step 2 onwards, corners and adjacent lines are not a problem cause you will be able to tend to these manually
- easy to go for colored lineart thanks to live paint

Try and keep a more constant thickness throughout your lineart. As it is, it has too much variation within the same lines. If you aren't doing so already when tracing the lineart, try to lay down your nodes in pairs and keep their handles in parallel. This helps avoiding lumps.

Overall, lineart is a bit too thick in general and way too irregular in it's thickness. You'll get better at this with practice. Also, I haven't seen the original but I feel like some of those ends could've been sharp points instead of being rounded. I've circled a few examples.

And for your friend, it comes down to how much effort he's willing to put in his vectors. Strokes are a tool at your disposition while fills is a technique. With fills, you have freedom over the thickness overall, variation of the thickness, how to end you points, giving perspective, increasing focus on certain parts by making the lineart bolder and it also avoids a really flat and mechanical looking lineart when that's not what you are looking for.

Gonna side with Anon on this, also the lines in the skirt just look a bit flat and too uneven? It feels like where her shirt stops and the skirt starts it feels really flat. I would have to see the original image though. Keep at it man!

Thanks.
Like I said, I'm from the minimalist vectoring thread, so I'm not used to putting outlines on things yet.
Is there a way to easily make them have uniform thickness, or do I just have to eyeball it and adjust the node angles manually?

>>2010417
Yep, it's a Prinny from the Disgaea series.
I only played the first standalone PSP Prinny game, though.
>>
>>2010470
Not Deko, but it's something that you get a feel for and get faster with over time. If you line up the points evenly like he explained and parallel you shouldn't need to do too much adjustment. Again, just something that comes with practice and knowing where to lay down the right points!

I'm running Inkscape, because I'm too poor for Illustrator but also too lazy to look for a torrent for it.
I guess I'll just do it manually and learn from experience.

Just make your paths simple, fewer points means fewer adjustments between them, that should cut down on time. But it is a very lengthy processs overall, just be prepaired for that.

I reworked it a bit. Changed the shadows and you should like what I did between the skirt and the shirt. I think it look way better now.
Yeah the inside of the skirt looks a bit strange but it was even stranger when I exactly followed the original image. Maybe it's because it doesn't have the texture.

Here is the original image.

I tried to use a bit of "noise" to recreate the texture but it doesn't look good. It isn't minimalist anymore. I think it's better to just leave it as it is.

Yeah it's a very lengthy process and takes a lot of time to master. It also depends on the complexity of the image, there is no need for it to be that expensive if the image isn't complicated.

>>
>>2010849
Not bad Anon, it's good that you are aware of working harder on line evenness problems. Have you watched any of the tutorials that are posted? Those might help you work out some of the details. One of the best ways to handle it, in my opinion, is to place down your points parallel to each other on both sides of the fill. The idea is that you keep both sides roughly the same and adjust the spacing to be equal as needed. It's also really important to take your time. A good vector takes a decent amount of time and if you are eagerly rushing just to get done and post, the result won't look as good. Make sure you really work on each line until it's even before moving on to the next one, this will force you to have to make it better.

Thanks for the tips.
I wouldn't say I've been rushing, I've just had a fair bit of free time the past few days.
I already try to lay down linework nodes in pairs and have them parallel, I think it's a matter of me not remembering how far I space them apart.
Trying to look for learning resources too, but my problem is that most of the stuff I find (either from the OP or from googling) is for Illustrator.
>>
>>2010870
Not sure if that has much to do with it but it might? I personally use Illustrator and have no experience with Inkscape. It looks like on the screenshot you attached that if you kept the same zoom level you could adjust that line to be thicker near the bottom by just spacing out those left most nodes. Glad to hear you are not rushing! I also have a decent amount of free time outside of work so I get the whole free time thing.
Semi unrelated but I will be streaming here in a bit if you want to see how I work. Its a lot of little adjustments to the same line, can get a bit boring, but you might find something useful from it.

To expand on this try this, as well:
Use your mouse pointer as a spacer.

For example: you want a thin line that is even, zoom in 500% and put your nodes one mouse pointer's width away from one another (remember the pointer takes up a square area, so it can be done)

Then you want a thicker line? zoom in to 200% instead and do the same thing. After a while, you'll learn how to do it by hand - remember: it doesn't have to be 100% perfect and UNIFORM - just CONSISTENT.

Hope this helps...

>>
>>2011076
Hey Anon, so what exactly are you having trouble with in regards to the mouth? Judging by how the hair looks it appears like you are laying down a lot of points, try to reduce the number of points you use to make each line and smooth out some of those more choppy areas a bit.
>>
>>2011121
What I'm trying to do is get this as "flat" as possible while keeping her looking like Satsuki as much as possible. I'm going to be running this through a vinyl plotter to make an affordable diy itasha design. With it being flat I'll be able to only use vinyl instead of having it printed at some fancy shop. The less intricate the better since it'll make the weeding process better.

Tldr: if you could add the mouth so I could trace it again on mine that would be super.

I was going to post this before your second post but now this might be irrelevant if you aren't looking for anything sharp and precise. Hopefully it helps anyway. I don't know how printing vinyl works but if what you have is accurate to what it can make, you might wanna simply use auto-trace at this point. It would save you a lot of time and effort and most likely look just as choppy and blocky.
>>
>>2011129
Depending on the Cutter your file would probably work. Everything needs to be merged and really small things are a pain in the ass to weed but can be done if the blade does not catch on a seam and fuck things up.

The threads have always been slow, honestly there is a core group that works on vectors and people drift in and out as they get time or interest waxes or wanes we could stand to get new blood and if you have any suggestions on bringing in new people I would be all ears.

The main issue I see is you have to have people interested in a slow and somewhat tedious process so its not like you have a lot of people seeking us out.

Know you posted a while ago but it looked simple enough for a noob like me to get some more practice on. The hair is giving me trouble due to dark red blending with the black so I figured to post what little I've done so far.

Critique welcome. I've been trying really hard to keep the lines consistent, but this is only my fourth vector sooooo
>>
>>2011323
Lines look pretty consistent to me, except for the elbow and breast. I don't think the variance on the elbow looks bad, but I'd say maybe fix up the breast so the lines above and below her hand are a little more consistent.

I'd also say to make the lines for her lower back a little less pointed. I know the source looks pointy, but I think the lines would look better with softer points.

Consistency looks pretty good. I think you did well.

Few things I'd like to point out: circled in red are nodes that are too pointy, like Phlux also mentioned. Circled in yellow is a line on the back that I feel is a bit too bold. Circled in green are very small gaps in your lineart that I spotted. And green arrows are my takes on the little finger's nail which seems too long and her elbow that looks a bit too squareish to me.
>>
>>2011331
>>2011335

Hey thanks.

Yeah that pointy back was weird but like you said the source was like that and I was just following that for now before trying to mess with "correcting it". I appreciate it

Ah yeah the gap on the chin. That those lines were giving me trouble so I've been adjusting them a bunch, thanks for pointing that out.

Okay So those lines on her fingers you think are the fingernails, I was trying to figure out what those were exactly. Thought they might've been the bend in the finger on the underside of a digit.

Thanks for the insight and advice!

Progress.

I'm... not really happy with the hair lines. I wanted to make them thicker than the body lines, which they are. I don't know what was up, but I just couldn't get things to curve like I wanted, so some are pretty lumpy and the thickness isn't consistent :/ (especially the hair in the middle of the forehead) At some point I just had to move on for my sanity.

I did smooth out some of those sharp lines y'all pointed out, but didn't fix everything yet. I threw the eye together without being super careful as well, so.

So I need to redo some of those lines, I want to redo the hand at some point, and I was kinda burnt out so pretty sure a lot of my progress is sloppy. I need to take a break so I don't keep doing stuff I need to redo.

I guess no matter what it's some practice at at least

My apologies. I had started this vector and forgot to post about it. Yours is shaping up. Please don't stop because of me.

This is not my first vector, but it's my first time doing a request here.

Critique welcome.

Few things I noted on attached pic. Overall it's good but I personally don't like the new colors you picked, especially the white of her eyes. I'd also make all the lines dark red, not just the hair and eyes. It looks weird with half red and black. It might look like the lines of her body are black at first glance but SHAFT makes them all dark red in Monogatari, you can still see it in the screenshot. Hope this helps.

Would anyone be willing to just do the line art for this? I'm trying to do some color swaps.

I'll try to do this when I have the time.
I actually wanted to take this up when this was posted on the minimalist vector thread, but another anon beat me to it.

does vectoring manga scans have any merit? I'm sure not all of them can be but I've seen a few where it can really work out (clear shapes, colouring, etc), it's just a passing thought as I try to get better in vectoring

>>
>>2012539
Thats a lot of work my man.....
>>
>>2012539
I'm gonna have to side with Anon on this one, this is a pretty heavy request for someone to do. There is not a high chance someone will pick it up.
>>
>>2012539
Out of a 500x701 image?

Amigo...
>>
>>2012639
The size of an image is not the issue, I have worked with smaller. It is wanting legs drawn that is the problem.
>>
>>2012639
>>2012684

Yeah, this image isn't actually a bad res, we just usually don't do that heavy of a recreation here. Her legs are cut off at a pretty high place. I don't mind making up SOME parts of an image if needed but that's a lot to make up.

Thinking about taking commissions under certain circumstances. I have a decent amount of free time after work, but I do work a 9-5 job. For those making designs for your car you might want to highly consider getting a commission from a veteran, it might be a little pricy but at least you know it will be done right.
>>
>>2012857
If you're gonna post a request, use original images. If the vector artist wants an upscale they know how to waifu2x themselves.
>>
>>2012911
Are you a veteran?

I'm not sure how far into the work you are, so sorry if I sound nitpicky. I want to share some concerns about the perspective on the gun, which is way off in some places:
1 - the ellipses
2 - the letters
3 - the thingy is rotated, not skewed to fit the perspective
4 - stuff up here looks like a placeholder with no logical sense as to its placement or function
5 - the (_( (_( rings on the flashlight don't share the curvature of its main body
6 - the barrel is not centered on the gun
7 - the hole almost overlaps the body
8 - something's wrong with these cuts and their perspective

Also, you seem to have a stray line - here, marked in blue. But it might be part of the element in the background, so I'm not sure if it's intentional.
>>
>>2014014
To sum up your concerns, the gun isn't complete, some of it is just to have an object made. Some of the stuff will also make more sense when it is colored.
>>
>>2014014
