Newfag here, I could use some help or advice. I'm trying to enlarge an image in without it getting too pixelated. To do this, I'm using waifu2x, and for the most part it's working well. This particular image is giving me some trouble though. When it comes out, there still seems to be some pixelation problems particularly near the girls left arm and the right side of the mans jacket. Is there any easy way to fix this? I can use any Adobe app if I need to.

I guess if this has to be a request, I'd like the pixelation issue fixed.

You can probably blame the extreme amount of jpeg artifacts for that in addition to the low resolution. Even if you set waifu2x to reduce noise, there is only so much it can deal with. In short, compression artifacts are nasty. There is a better source image around that you might want to try out instead of the one you posted. See if that does the trick for you.

in which way are you using waifu2x (web page or standalone)?

I use the waifu2x-coffe version, which you can install (saves you the up and download process and has no limits with resolution and stuff)

I attached the result when I upscaled your image to 2160p with waifu2x-coffe

I really don't see what I'd call "pixilation".
I _do_ see a fair amount of color-irregularity in those areas in your original.
I applied a filter called "smart blur" which smooths out minor variations while leaving distinct edges alone.
I saved it as V1, then ran it through Waifu2x.
Does it look any better? My file-size is smaller than yours, indicating simplification.
If not, could you post an extreme close-up with the problem circled?

I'm using the standalone one (waifu2x-caffe).
I guess a better way of putting it is that it was losing quality. I did try to find the best source image I could before I started, but I'm glad you found a better one. The settings I was using were noise level 3, TTA on, split size of 128, output depth of 16, and then my desired magnification which is usually around 2160p

Well after changing a few settings to what you had, it looks like waifu2x solved the issue. This is the result from the first image I posted. I'm pretty sure if I made it any larger it would still come out decently.

If I recall correctly, there is a tool in Illustrator to help vectorize images. I think it was the "trace" tool? but it would make edges smoother. It works great with "simple" images. Is there a similar tool like that in photoshop, Illustrator, etc... that can be used for something like pic related? I would guess sharpening would also work to an extent but I was hoping there were more options. Otherwise I'd have to do it by hand and that would be pretty time consuming for all the images I have.

If anyone could erase all these titles to only keep the main character in the left and try to fix the hidden parts, you'd make someone happy af

I think I was able to improve it a bit.

There's not really a tutorial, but you're right that it isn't hard. I can tell you what I did to get this, but I only use photoshop not gimp.
First I used the color select tool to delete every pixel that was pink. Then I inserted a layer underneath and filled it in with the color you requested. After that it was just cleaning up some edges.

yeah, because some of the pixels in her shirt are the same color. You can just add in another layer and paint underneath the shirt.

So you would have a top layer that is the girl and circle.
Middle layer that is the pink in her shirt.
Then bottom layer which is the background.

I'm shit at gimp so I don't know how to do all that, but I'm assuming it's possible.

I have a slightly hefty request here, but hopefully it won't be too hard!

I have this dual monitor wallpaper I cropped by downscaling this amazing image:

and while it looks pretty much perfect of the left half, the right half of the image is way too noisy

can someone please clean up the right half by removing the partially out of frame Rin and moving the other rin into that general area?

also could you please slightly shift the flower I circled over just a tiny bit so it doesnt dip into the left half of the image?
