Look, I get that some people don't think RWBY's an Anime because its made in the states, but this is more fitting for /w/ than /wg/.

we have threads for this here all the time, if people still complain they can go fuck themselves
Ignorance of the rules is not an excuse

The Red Trailer was by far my favorite one out of the 4. It just gives you the feeling of a large world waiting to be explored and we are only getting a very small glimpse of it.
>all this best girl
I approve
Needs more Team JNPR
>>1966317
I think the black trailer shows more of that with the beginning shots of the massive forest and its such a huge area that has barely been touched yet.
Friendly reminder that Japan considers anything animated to be anime.
That extends from Japanese anime as we know it, to Korean anime, all the way out to American cartoons (including RWBY, Avatar TLA, and even Mickey Mouse cartoons).
Therefore, if it's animated, it is anime, and therefore applicable to this board.
>Cinder is real best girl
>Still would waifu the fuck out of Weiss
ALSO, RWBY is fucking popular in Japan.
Like, hugely successful.
So a lot of this is from Japanese artists
>>1967957
I think the idea is that many people who watch anime do so precisely because it's a touchstone for Japanese culture, and regardless of how other people use the word, the stateside otaku use the word specifically to refer to Japanimation.
It's less about the actual definition and more about the context it's used in.
>>1967957
At the end of the day, it's really just noise. What is considered anime is more a style choice than anything else, the community has no real control over the definition in that context.

Sadly that is all I have of Cinder...
She's so fucking hot though
>>1967959
>Like, hugely successful.
Oh man... no. no it isn't. It is successful, no doubt about that, but the flood of fan-art is not indicative to it's spread in the region.
As near as I can tell, it's rather lost in a sea of mediocre anime. One that has managed a small fan-base (which is better than most), but that is about it.
>>1970118
are you the same moron who gets on every rwby thread just to demean it? i think you're just but hurt. the fanbase is huge, its not as big in japan because its fairly new their. it will grow. unless you're going to contribute? get out.
>>1970209
He's probably not the same, because he's definitely not the only one. Also, considering he's not actually shitting on the series at all like I do.
>>1970209
Ok, wow... just wow. Is this the quality of posters today?
On topic...
> are you the same moron who gets on every rwby thread just to demean it?
No, I am not because I am not demeaning it at all.
Personally, I can't say that I find much entertainment with it. The main cast is a collection of tropes that doesn't rise beyond them. The action seems to be written from the "School of Dragon Ball" with a massive lack of tension in conflicts. The writing... the less that I say about it the better, all I can say is that any reports to this being some grand epic are grossly overrated.
That said, I can see why others enjoy it. The interaction between characters are rather good for a plot that can't support them. And some characters just stand out, Touchwick, Team JNPR, Cinder Fall and her team, etc.... all of them more or less kept me watching.
I can't say that I demean it because in truth, there isn't a whole lot to say that isn't proven in the show itself. It's ok, but top-shelf entertainment it isn't. I don't make a point of deluding myself that it's anything less than what it is.
> the fanbase is huge, its not as big in japan because its fairly new their. it will grow.
Grammar errors aside. Yes, the fanbase is rather big... in the US, it's country of origin. Which doesn't really apply to my response since you mentioned that it is large, in Japan.... and as far as I have seen, that isn't the case at all.
Will that fan-base grow, sure... but I don't think that the growth will larger than what other shows of it type will have. And Japan has plenty of that.
>>1966162
fucking this
>>>/trash/
Anime = Japanese cartoons, made in Japan.
RWBY = not made in Japan.
I'm not even hating or anything, I don't actually care about the thread itself too much, but the definition of anime is not based on "style". It is as simple as if it's Japanese cartoon then it's anime.

>Japan
>Monty Oum
>Monty was born in Providence, Rhode Island to a family of mixed Cambodian, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Japanese heritage.
>Japanese heritage
>Japanese cartoons
Creator Japanese? Check.
Anime style? Check.
Currently a manga, made in Japan? Check.
It's anime by technicality.
>>1972949
heritage has shit to do with what nationality you are.
If you have don't know the language, have never lived or visited the place, and do not engage actively in the culture then you're not from fucking there. That's your PAST ANCESTORS culture, not yours.
>>1972949
In that case, so would Batman: The Animated Series.
>>1973127
Batman the animated series is actually more anime than RWBY by that logic because it was actually animated by some japanese studios for some episodes and not just made in poser by some american youtuber whose family comes from japan.
>>1973129
True, true....
I was thinking Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, but the same would apply there are well on top of the shows aping some of the writing styles and structure, being heavily inspired by the medium, and the head writers themselves being massive weebs.
So maybe more Warner Brothers in the 90's with Animianics, Freakazoid, Pinky and the Brain (and Elmyra), etc. whom also outsourced animation to japan studios.
If anything RWBY has more in common with Reboot, Beasties/Beast Wars, War Planets: Shadow raiders, and the rest of old Mainframe Entertainment's output
My current wallpaper.
Nora a best.

Hey guys, started watching the show when it first came out, but the voice acting really bothered me, and i dropped it after a while. Does it get any better later on?
>>1976307
Not particularly. The main girls get better, but they decided to have the main villain
or at least the strong right hand of the real villain, who is hanging out in Dimension X waiting to take over the world
be played by Jessica Nigri, who is pretty bad.
>>1968132
NO, Your lying right?
>>1977833
So then who is bottom of the barrel for you? None of them stand out as particularly worse than Nigri, I just think it was a bad idea giving the main villain role to someone who has no idea how to voice-act. Coco is abysmal, but she doesn't have many lines.
>>1978308
That is pretty hard to gauge since again, they are all pretty bad. That said I would have to give the worse to Jen Brown's performance as Pyrrha Nikos.
I find that kind of ironic, since I love the character but her dialog is really stilled and the reading is stiff.
It is just something that bugs me every time she speaks and it requites some nuance of emotion (which is almost all the time) in the voice. It just consistently misses the mark.

np, also I added to it.
It always amazes me how triggered people get for the things they don't like. About 50 different wallpaper threads but this is the one they need to be in to cry about why they don't like it.

Weiss is nice

I might have to look into that, when I care for more RWBY (which is rare)
