I'd suggest putting a little more time into them. As for the first one, get rid of those little specs around her, for the love of god. Secondly, get some higher res images. Lastly, try and make the background less blurry, as in the first one, you can't really tell that the rendered part is associated with the background.

It's nice, I like the colors.

Only thing I notice after a quick look is there are some blue pixels in a couple spots on the outside of the shape that look like they shouldn't be there. It's only noticeable if you zoom really far in, though, and I probably wouldn't bother to fix it.

Not the one who posted it, but its really easy. Duplicate the layer with your render, put it under and select just that and fill it with black. Give it a little blur and lower the opacity to about 30-45% and drag it a little off from the image. Dont drag it too far where it looks detatched, just as far as you need for the effect.

Looks good to me, you've definitely picked up whats in the video really well. Something I do when picking a render + background, I look for color combination.

In this one I looked for a background that was dark, and had emphasis on dark greens/browns because the render had dark greens/browns. Give that a shot, and see whatcha come up with.

Just do the render you want yourself. Then you can rush and leave a bit of white on the border if you know you are going to use a light colored background and it doesn't matter. Or take as long as you want to get it just right.

As per request, here is a fucking bad tutorial on adjusting light. I tried to record with OBS and got a blackscreen, same with Fraps. If someone can produce it in a higher quality, feel free to do it.
After doing it a few times I got frustrated and recorded/edited it very fast, don't be like me and do it more precise.

Something about the elbow seems off. At first I want to say it should be more rounded but I don't know. Maybe the shading just needs a little more emphasis.

Should there be some edge highlight?

I'm not knowledgeable about swords. Should a rapier have a chisel point? I don't know if that is the correct term for it. I would imagine a weapon like a rapier designed for thrusting would angle equally from both edges to form a point.

You did a good job though. I probably wouldn't have noticed anything at all if you hadn't said you redrew those parts.

I don't, but others like to make the render/shape really large.

Only thing I might have done differently on this is using a light skin tone or a color that fits with the background leaves' colors for the shape stroke.

It looks like the shape stroke got blurred. Did you want it that way?

The edge between the shape and the character needs work. The best way to do it is to select the shape layer's pixels, switch to the render layer, and erase. It will only erase the pixels in the selection. Much faster and easier than trying to do it by eye.

Good renders have no pixels on the edges leftover from the full image. A lot of pictures originally have white backgrounds, so you can see a lot of white pixels surrounding renders if you look at the stuff posted in this thread. The edges of the render should also be as smooth as possible. You shouldn't be seeing jagged edges on something if it's supposed to be a smooth arc.

One way to check the quality of a render is by putting it over a solid black background. Can you see any light colored pixels on the edge that you missed? Next, put it over a solid white background. Are there any dark pixels on the edge that shouldn't be there?

Properly going over an image can be a very time consuming process, but it looks a million times better. Like half the stuff posted here honestly looks quite bad.
