Vector Thread - Requests & Sharing

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Post your vector requests and recently done vectors here.
>Previous thread → >>1951675

READ THE OP BEFORE POSTING!

>Before requesting, here are some tips:
– Request an image ONCE per thread. Do not bump or second - once is enough.
– Check the lists below to see if your request has already been previously fulfilled.
– All requests are welcome, within reason, but remember:
– The poorer the quality of an image (in resolution and drawing ability), the less likely it will be picked up. The more detail seen and higher the resolution, the better.
– Full-body images preferred. Images cut off on 3 or more sides are very unlikely to be picked up due to their limited usage; keep this in mind when finding an image to request. (Hair or skirt edges that are barely cut off don't usually count)
– Requests for removing the background from an image (called a RENDER) and resizing requests should go to the IMT threads.
– Refrain from using renders for requests. Try to find the original non-rendered image; it is easier for vectorists to work with.
– Note: Overly complicated images are unlikely to be picked up due to their nature. IF your request is taken, please have patience.

The only thing *I* would edit/change myself, is the lock of hair that makes a "V" right above the middle of his forehead - the rightmost line needs a but more curve, in my opinion.

I mean, the others have a nice curve, and that one is practically straight.

I mean ANYTHING straight in Jojo is off, but on Dio, it's just.. wrong...
>>
>>1964171
Okay, I honestly have to ask this.

Why, if you are coming to the vector thread, do people ask for renders?

Can't they not read or something?

Overall, you need to pay attention to the minute details more. Most of what you came up with is too simplified compared to the original. Best example, the eyes. Could be either laziness or inexperience, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say the later since it's a pretty complex image for shading.

Lineart is way too thick also. It needs to be more precise/thinner.

As for her clothing, I'd use meshes instead of solid shapes. In fact, I'd probably do so for almost all the shading on the image. It might be hard to tell since the image is pretty blurry but you missed a lot of details on the shading in general.

I'll attach an example with the ai file to show what I mean with the eyes and how I do meshes. I won't show you how I'd do the whole dress because it'd take too long but if you have any part more precisely that you need help with, I'll be happy to assist. Hope this helps.

Colors mean nothing at this state, they are all going to be replaced since I plan on doing gradient mesh for a large part of this image, all they are there for is to block out the sections and probably be used for clipping masks.

I know the quality isn't great but it's early days and this is the only image released so far. Could someone vector this? The clearer, smaller image on the right is for posterity and so you can see the smaller details easier like its angry expression and fangs. You could probably just do half and flip it and it'd be fine.
Sorry if this request is a hassle.

All your lines have zero consistency, or they are "too uniform" on others for the WROBNG REASONS.

I'd suggest you redo it keeping in mind that the red circles are WRONG and the arrows point to how they should be.

Also: make the hair lines thinner than skin (but nto too thin) and your thickest lines should actually be for the sweater chihiro wears

But it is necessary, because it only says "vector" in the title of the thread, and yet, every single one asks for a "render." then don't understand why people are annoyed or pissed at them, and send them over to the recent, active IMT.

It isn't that fucking difficult of a concept. You don't go into a fucking burger joint to get pizza, and if you do, you look like a total fucking idiot.

Circled some crucial areas - you're using too many nodes for your hair lines - it makes them look lumpy. You do not have to follow the line that is drawn exactly - most artists working professionally don't have the time constraints to make it "perfect" You as a vector artist can take more time to fix these issues.

The other place I see needs work is the cheek blush - put a little bend in them - human faces are NOT flat, and have bends - putting a small bit of arc in those lines will give it more volume.

Finally: the glasses look imperfect. What I suggest you do:
* Make one of the lenses using strokes.
* Copy it.
* Paste and mirror it to the other lense.
* Paste and expand it to be perfectly parallel to the inner part of the lenses to make the basics of the rim
* Make those outer rim lines strokes.
* Put in the other lines for the rims using strokes.
* Make all those outer lines that were strokes into outline fills, and then merge them,
( remove the excess bits around the nose bridge, the eyeglass handle hinge bits, and contour, pad as neccesssary.

Hope this helps.
>>
>>1967104
IMT can do all that, if someone wants to take the image - we don't usually do "partial vectors" as it makes for consistency issues in the look and feel of the image.

Also: a lot of us don't like redrawing in illustrator. You should see if you can find a similar arm or uniform from that show (even black and white) to paste WITH the image for people to either just rip off completely and paste in, or to steal bits from.

>>
>>1967451
All I can say is I am patiently waiting for the complete vector
>>
>>1967451
This is a mixed one - with the style you are using and how it is adapring, it will look fine.

THAT being said: you lines are not consistent. You look at the original art, and there are more consistent lines (no variable widths, truer lines, etc.) then you have in your version.

So the artist in me says it looks good, but the vectorist in me is saying the lines should be redone for more stability.

daul, can you pipe in and corroborate if the "pen stroke" method he is using will translate well to a larger-scale graphic?
>>
>>1967451
>>1967459
Looks fine so far the "pen stroke" style will work fine, its a little choppy in some places and should be smoothed out since even with a pen or a brush the lines would be smooth.

Areas that would obviously we done with one stroke like her shoulder and the baggy shirt should be smoother but your lines have a lot of depth so if the coloring is well done it will look good even large.

The belt just looks bad however and needs some work.

I like the work a lot over all so good work.

I actually started doing this bit by bit a little while ago, when not making minimalisms. I feel I'm off that binge for now and will focus on this.

I've got some personal investment in getting this done well, as my previous rushed attempt elicited a fair bit of harsh-but-fair criticism and got me to learn how to actually vector properly.
>>
>>1967551
I'd be more than happy to see it finished and of course see how you've improve since your first attempt.
>>
>>1967551
The only thing I am seeing now that needs fixing is the dark yellow shadow - the studs are smooth, so they wouldn't come to points like that - you can see it in the original image, as well..

So, a little bit of context for this

A while back I found this small image on a random thread and saved it. The facial expression is just amazing, something about it drew me in.

Yesterday, a random trail of thought led to me thinking: "That's the face of unpleasant surprise, but with wicked intent to have things go her way no matter what." (something to that extent)

Once that happened, some fairly messed up scenarios popped in my brain - ones that would cause such a reaction, and subsequent actions that she might take.

In short, I felt like I just had to make this, especially after writing up a bunch of /b/tard level stuff on a hidden text layer in the vector file, which you can get right here (highly inappropriate language):

https://mega.nz/#!LQd2RJ6R!HR2e8cI8w-8yFuMZjKcyZA711FMcFi-hMfLbrgMhhXM

Some part of me is ashamed and almost sorry for sharing this, but another is highly satisfied. So my stupidly honest self is letting it out into the wild.

Oh, almost forgot, I recently found out inkscape has a mesh tool and tried my hand with it on this image.
>>
>>1967709
Oh god, do you really not know where that image is from? You're in for a treat.

>>
>>1967771
Well the link goes to a picture of a sad panda, I'm guessing that website is dead or something.
If something is from a hentai then the chance of me knowing it is next to zero, I don't get into characters or story of hentai and usually toss it out of my memory soon after.

Re-examining the image I notice some parts that have too much saturation or it feels like the colors transition a bit too drastically in the hair. Seems I was somewhat too engaged by the fancy mesh tool to look at it properly.

For some reason my first reaction was "Aw, that's kinda cute, she seems adorable"
But your comment both intrigues and makes me nervous.

Regardless, the other one took about 4-5 hours, so I'll probably do this one for practice at some point (most likely after another binge of minimalisms to remind me how to do full vectors again), maybe let my mind wander and come up with a whole bunch more terrible scenarios too.

So, coming to the wrong board and asking us is going to get your image cleaned?

Sorry, but you are not that entitled to get this done. It means, if nobody is willing to do it for you, that they don't like the image.

But, upon reading the thread, it looks like someone DID do the image. Have you tried looking for the archive? Of course you haven't.

This is not the board for renders. Either ask for a vector (and maybe someone will do it) or kindly leave.

I was gonna ask whether her ribbons should have thicker or thinner lines, but then I looked at it in image viewer and liked thinner better, so I guess this is just a little progress update instead.

OH! right... I found the suzuka manga. was okay, not the kind of stuff i'm into, but I did get a few more great expressions of her, so I;m set for vector practice material for that.

Back to nanako, read the wiki plot summary - that's some silly stuff, very close to what I once thought stereotypical anime was. Might give it a watch to experience that late 90's feel.
>>
>>1968229
Yes it is indeed extremely stereotypical for a 90s anime and yes it is silly and pointless.

Now about the work in progress, it's looking very good so far, I don't know how to explain this but the character itself became an icon between my cousin and I, like a running joke or something and I wanted to use her as a phone wallpaper... so I'm looking forward to see this finished.

Tell me: what do you think made it not work?

If it is the colors, you should have made a new layer, kept them hidden and reverted them back.

When I suggest something, it's meant sometimes as a thought experiment for you to learn from the effort.
Other than the colors of the frills on her wristbands, the coloring seems fine, but again, it's up to you to decide whether you like them or not...

The ball needs to be fixed - look at the lines for the inner circle and line splitting the ball.

Change Serena's hair color to the color in the anime - it hives more contrast to the image.
You also need shading on the ball, but not like in the image - it's missing the shadow made by the fingers.

That's what I see so far. Double check you lin thicknesses, as well...

use less nodes. Only use them when necessary, and when you do use them, make sure you keep the levers parallel to one another - if they don't make a perfectly straight line, it makes kinks in the line.

Here is a SIMPLE version of it - I didnt' copy the colors, or adjust the lines for accuracy, but you get the gist from these steps.

I:
* Made an elipse
* Put color in it
* Added in a radial gradient
* Moved the radial to where I wanted it
* Copied a plain-color elipse, then moved and cut it to shape.
* Changed the color to white.
* Made the shape transparent
* Added in the pupil.

From here, you can adjust things so the hilight is where you want it, etc. like in the image, but this is the basics of the method.

This is decent until you look and see all the random ass lines sticking out. Even if thats from the sourve material it doesnt fit vectoring and then my next reccomendation is to round off edges and points a bit morr. Easiest way to do this is think of this:

* Can I do everything I need to do with CS3?
* Does CS3 work properly?
* What will the changes to the program do for me if I upgrade?
* Are these changes and the price worth what I need to do with the program?

Hope this helps....

No, fuck you. I stated before that the lines in her panties were not put in on purpose. I omitted the shiny bubbles from her butt because underwear and hilights DO NOT WORK THAT WAY.

Everything omitted was because it did not fit as proper shading, or was a fucking BLEED from printing.

Again: you don't know shit, and didn't bother to go to the chats for my streams where I explained this shit. You don't NEED to do a vector 100% accurate, because the fucking artists are under pressure to crank the shit out.

The things I mentioned as being omitted are fucking staying omitted. You want it "accurate" then fucking do it yourself.

Oh, wait. It's too hard for you to do. TOO BAD THEN.

I did fix one thing - I used the wrong shadow color on the face, so I fixed it. I must have accidentally forgotten to remove the selection when switching objects. Here is the fix.

P.S. Fuck you and do it yourself next time.

A render is taking an image and using a photo manipulation tool like Photoshop and "cutting out" the subject (in this context, usually an anime character) from the image.
What we do in this thread is use a vectoring tool like Illustrator to trace the subject in the image. This produces a vector file that is infinitely scalable without loss of quality.
>>
>>1970626
In addition to what Phlux said, the difference in time and effort between a render and a vector is immense; a good render of a reasonably-simple image will take maybe thirty minutes to an hour, but a vector of the same reasonably-simple image takes ten hours or more.

Can somebody vector her without the text?
I'm new to how vectors work, but can you up the size by 2?
I would want a vector of her at this size as well as the x2. (Or just if the normal size if x2 can't work)
>>
>>1971104
The point of vector images are that they don't have a specific size. If somebody does a vector of that they would probably post an image that's like 5 times the size or more of your image.

How do I vector this, I mean, do I have to do the zippers one by one?
If so, fuck me
>>
>>1971178
Do all the other bits first, then make a pattern of the zippers or make the "up" and down" shape, copy-paste, move to place, then copy all four, and keep doing this, fine-tuning at the end.

Good luck

it took you like a week to finish this from the original thread. No offense but you lack dedication & concentration. I could've had this down in an entire day or at least 18 hours depending on breaks and quality. Also why go through the effort for an anime that sucked? Lastly, your overall work is a solid 9/10. Despite your laziness you did manage to pull through and post your work, even regularly leaving updates. Later on today, when I finish the request(s) I was given,I'd like you to critique my work.
>>
>>1971339
18 hours is almost half a work week, not everyone has the time to spend a full day working on something straight. I really hope your kidding.

>>
>>1971339
Fuck this guy - there are guys like JPGC, daul and Deko that can run circles around him if they had the time. It looks fine. This guy is just a troll trying to make himself look important.
>>
>>1970771
Only thing I would fix is the needle - I would make the colors for the shot and plunger then put the glass cover over all of it and make it transparent. It makes it a bit more believable.

Still: good work!

>>1971339
Don't listen to what other people say - work at your own pace - you're not being paid for it...
>>
>>1971357
The only thing that bugs me (and it might not be your fault) is the hilights near the bow in the back for the bow in the hair - hilights don;t work like that.

I'm chalking it up to style, but if there was one bit of element I would change for vectorists' prerogative, it would be that.

Good job!

Thanks, it's such a sensible thing too, I need to think more about logic like that when doing this kinda stuff.

As for your comments >>1971339
vectoring on these threads is just a hobby of mine that I do when I have some spare time, so of course I can't get something like this done in just a few days (but 18 hours in total sounds about right)

Why pick this? This is what I started with when I was all excited to do vectoring and didn't really care what it was. I rushed to get it done originally, focused only on working on it. I got criticized for sucking. I learned a lot. Did some others to get better. Came back to this to sort of put an end to that initial learning stage. I like doing minimalisms more now, so I'm slower on these full vectors.

As for giving critique, I'm not good at spotting small stuff, as my mind always leaves benefit for doubt - it's an artistic choice, that's how it should be, I don't know the style well enough myself, etc.

Until you stop using strokes in your vector for all the lines there is not a whole lot we can critique.

The most I can say is you look to be using a few too many points and to watch the tutorial to get an idea how to use shapes instead of strokes.

Hey, the cloth texture is not something I actually made myself. I just grabbed it off the internet. You might be able to find what your looking for by searching for it, unless it's something very specific. The texture on ruri is semi transparent, sitting on top of the background and flowers. The edges are clipped off with a transparency mask.

Is that a render of a vector? I'm seeing white lines when I put it into photoshop.
>>
>>1973517
what i do is i export as tif from corel and then import to photoshop, do some color balance stuff and then i just selected white color, removed the white and saved it as a png for transparency.

which if i think about it is retarded as fuck because i can save it with transparency in corel already and then just use that for some playing around with colors

btw when we are on the topic, what is the proper way to get vectors as high quality as possible out of your vector application for further editing in photoshop, im kind of newish to the whole process
>>
>>1973522
If I remember correctly, Corel can't do anything complex, at all, so it may be best to export it as an SVG, import that into photoshop, resize, and save as PNG. If it won't save as an SVG, save it as a PDF, that will save it as a vector, not a raster, and follow the rest of those instructions I just mentioned.

I know it's not anime, but I have no idea what I'm doing and would really like a not-shit resolution image of the logo for this game, and I didn't get any results on /wg/ when I searched for a vector thread there. Even the logo alone would be better than nothing. I am gambling and hoping that I can get away with this since I've seen a couple of video game requests in this thread.

P.S. All the white is only there to meet the minimum resolution restrictions.

Inkscape or Illustrator. Corel Draw's tools are not that great, and you get better layer management from the others, as well as gradient mesh with Illustrator.

Depends on the best effect - Usually, it's easiest to do a color picker and grab the colors. But there are times when you'll want to grab and use a dark blue or red too add warmth to the shadow. Don't use black or white if possible unless it really suits the affect you're going for - effects themselves can be changes as needed.

Using the image pasted as an example: I used blues and reds to make the shadows in this to give them a better fit to the image - I had to do the image's color fro scratch, as the image was washed out. The hair actually has black as a shadow color.

Hope this gives some help to you...

I actually have opposing beliefs. I almost exclusively use black and white for shading and highlighting on everything other than skin. For skin, I usually do a red.
Some people may not like how it looks, but I it makes my life tons easier while coloring.
