First off try to hide the bottom nav buttons and with the picture, are you using the correct canvas size with regards to your screen? Obviously newt to ricing but thanks to anon from previous thread I was finally able to make my own background. Will be taking off top notification bar and bottombar that has menu button. Moving 3 wedges to right side vertically and thinking of adding a bar through the middle similar to 'new enemy approaching' style that will contain icons. Need icons. What else should I do?

Like you said, removing the notification bar will be a first step, as will removing the dock. An icon pack will do you wonders, an honestly a different widget set will help you the most. Those widgets don't really match your wallpaper and even if used with a NGE wallpaper and set up to resemble the cockpit of an EVA it would still look rough.

Make better use of screen real estate, right now you're kinda conglomerating some ideas from other rices which is fine but the execution leaves much for the wanting. It feels unbalanced and very empty. I'd scrap and start with a new design, honestly, but if you're hellbent on this for whatever reason I'd start with moving the girl up and adding more stuff, or making better use of the space you are using. A white bg and dark grey boxes can look really boring or really clean, and you've managed to tend towards the former. So, up to you. I think this is better off restarted, but your call.
As for >>1888113 the same thing applies, just without boxes. It's very white and empty, which is fine if you're going for that but it looks unintentional. I'm personally not a fan of those super-thin music control icons, either, and if you're going for stroked text keep it consistent or just do without it.

My advice is get some paper and sketch out some layouts. Right now it looks like you have a general idea of what you want and then rush in to set it up, adding stuff as you go along. Figure it out before you start. What do /you/ need? What do you like about other rices you've seen in past threads? Analyze and pick apart design elements. A very white rice can work great -- that's not why this is poorly done. Learn to use space (negative space, too) more effectively. I can sit here and critique rices all day but a lot of the problems I see in these threads is people just willy nilly trying to cram as much shit as they like in one rice, or trying to copy or emulate a certain design or aesthetic without critically thinking about how to make it work in the context they're placing it in .

Get better fonts, for one. Don't squish everything in the box like that, for another. Pick your colors with more discretion as well. That bold on the clock looks ugly as fuck, and the date formatting is pretty wonky too. Everything is really oddly aligned in the boxes as well. Avoid just using an icon mask on iOS. Try to find a theme to go with it to make it consistent. Check out Devine or Kage, both from the MacCiti repo (if I'm not mistaken). Kage has over 1000 icons, and the dev is continuing to add more. It may have its own repo, so if you cant find it check out r/iosthemes and r/jailbreak since they will have the link there.

Looks nice overall, but the way the dark blue section cuts into her should be fixed. If it were me, I'd shrink her a little, move her to the left a bit, and see if you can make the right app bar narrower. Keeping the apps centered despite narrowing the bar will probably require some visual tricks though, but I'm betting it's doable. Lastly, maybe play with the colour of the clock and date, I think white may look better for it.

Try KLWP, maybe? I've never tried KWGT but it looks to be about the same, not very complex at all...they have common formulas people would use (i.e. for dates, times, calendar events, etc.) which can be edited very easily. Besides making your own, I'm not really sure honestly, sorry. But if you make it on your own, you can learn something new and can customize it as much as you want, which is a bonus for ricing.

I did that by just taking a screenshot of each page, going to paint and selecting "Properties" and changing the paint file resolution to match however many screenshots I posted. Then just paste them.

Not him, but I've been using more or less the same layout for like, 3 years, changing colors and backgrounds occasionally. When you find a layout that really works for you and you get used to DDing it, it can be really hard to change away from that.

I ended up using my last layout for over a year, but I made small changes over time
You end up with something you've slowly improved over time, and it's really hard to use something that's different
I just started making something new over the past few days, and I just ended up reusing the main components of my old layout since it's so comfortable to me

The layout works, but the individual components don't work together. The music widget stands out the most. A bold black box really is out of place with this wallpaper and think pinstripe icons.

The icons work but if I were to give a #/10 rate it would be low. The harsh red is a poor choice for the background and the top has a lot going on between the icons, notification bar and widget.

Its lazy but at least it looks good. the idea of putting some kind of line or even a boxed frame around the render is a good idea. If the image is getting cut off you might as well make it look natural.

The wallpaper is nice but as pointed out the clock and icons have their issues. Play with some more icon packs (simple white always makes a nice starting point) and for the clock play with other colors or give the blurred and framed look a try. You will have two copies of the background, on in the center that is framed and looks clear, the layer under that is the blurred one that will let the clock stand out more.

Creative layout, Loli is bit much for the second screen imo, but you do you. I'd use a darker blue for the main background so the icons don't seem as dark and there is more contrast between the boxes.

Love the series and really wish more DP walls made it in the thread. That said though its really a harsh image to look at. The pink is overpowering and the icons don't fit in well. Give a banner setup or some kind of framed look a try to help diffuse that pink and add in more contrast.

It will not feel as cluttered if you hide the notification bar. Also theme the app drawer icon to math the rest. If it still feels cluttered then make a second screen and put half the apps on it. You do have quite a few in one vertical line.

I like the wallpaper but the overall layout and icon choice is nothing that stands out a wows me. That widget on her ass is also way out of place. Running the icons up in a vertical line rather than a cluster might improve the overall look and help fill in the top a bit more.

when the threads started out what was getting posted would be considered shit. Then a peak was hit, then its all just fluctuated. As people loose interest and leave, and new people enter a cycle of good and bad rice appears.

You have a lot of room to make her larger and help fill in the space. A custom clock will look better than that one as well. If you can, replace the solid blue background with a gradient for some more visual flare to give it something.

I've used the same general layout for just about as long as these threads have been going, little longer in fact. Its one thing to have the same layout, its another to post the same layout with little to no changes when you aren't even getting active feedback multiple times in one thread.

You have a lot going on in one screen. Hide the notification bar if you are using the weather and clock widget, otherwise they are redundant. Then shrink her down a bit, just so your various elements don't overlap on her. This is also another screen I'd recommend breaking up into two screens, weather and half the icons on one, clock and the rest of the icon on the the other.

Kids these days don't know how good they got it. Rice back in like, 2010 was a struggle. Not only did most of the utilities we use now not exist, but you also had Android 2.1 or whatever on a tiny 480p screen. I wish I'd saved some of my original rice, or something else from that time period.

Adversely I'd argue that back then we had it better. The threads were more fun, it was easier to get help and there were more good motivational/inspirational vibes flowing around.

Plus I've always found it easier to work with a smaller screen, it's more comfy that way.

Finding a wallpaper that fit properly was much easier at least. Images weren't upscaled to fit or hastily vectored to fit a 1440p screen. Few elements could completely fill the screen rather than leave large empty spots. The attitudes in the threads were better as well. People were actively looking into a digging through apps for new ways to make things and achieve the look they wanted. You couldn't tell what was a widget and what was part of the wallpaper for some. Smartphone rice was fresh for /w/ not 148 stale threads later.

Oh, more fun for sure. No doubt. Things on the internet tend to end up that way, though, where the more popular they get the worse they are. I'm not trying to bash the current state of the threads or anything, that's just how it is. Just look at what the /g/ rice threads are like nowadays.
