New desktop thread, old one is slowing and approaching the limit.
"Your desktop is the mirror of your personality" edition.
You can find some of it their, but yeah, it's not a very complete guide.
I see, I should probably do that.
usually I just run the blackbox exe in bbzero.
Also, very minimal and nice looking.
Opera, or firefox with toolbar autohide?
Pretty happy with my new color scheme, VS's are a bitch to make though.
>"Your desktop is the mirror of your personality" edition.
Sounds about right.
Those fat tabs.
Jealous of that Skype.
Really like these colors, good taste in music.
Cool rice tastes bad.
Your desktops are always really pretty.
My reminders list is almost empty of all school work, finally. Working on the last paper of my undergrad.
And yesterday I accepted an offer to a PhD program in philosophy at Cornell! I'm pretty stoked.
You always do so much work with your rice. I'm perpetually impressed.
Our colors are similar. Yours look nice.
Looks nice. Who are those pictures of?
btw, what does the bar beneath your taskbar do?
Yellow is starting to look nice. Are you trading Vampire for Snake? That's treason.
Your fonts look nice now.
Even your game as a nice color palette.
Its the name of my PC. It's also the name of the computer/ship control in Outlaw Star.
getting used to 3 monitors was difficult
Does anyone uses cmdfetch here? The one by hal, which runs on lua. I installed the lua interpreter and I run the script directly with the lua extension, but the terminal close as soon as it opens.
>PhD program in philosophy
I'm more of someone who prefers to spend their time with the numerical world, personally, but I wish you the best with that, sounds like you'll have some fun with it that anyway.
>btw, what does the bar beneath your taskbar do?
It usually denotes the active window, it's usually blank if I click to the desktop or work over rainmeter, which I presume it doesn't identify as a window and chooses nothing, as it should, I guess.
here is stfourg's advice:
I guess we're using this thread then, even if it was started way too early.
>If you could elaborate whats wrong with my bbleanskin that would be great.
The colour you've used is pretty ugly, not unworkable just a bit iffy. The font is something I still take issue but hey. The shadow on the context menu looks iffy and cheap, not to mention the not-nice-to-read white font choice. I'd also say to hide the titles of the menus, it's ugly bloat you don't need. Edit the title or header margins (I can't remember too well) in the skin editor or the config file to hide them.
As it is, the bbleanskin doesn't fit your wallpaper all that well at all.
I'm finishing up my degree at the University of Toronto. Good luck with your future applications! I'd say start working on them as soon as you can, especially over the summer. Sending out applications is one of the most stressful things I've ever done.
Nice; I have some friends at UoT. It's a great school.
While I haven't quite started applying yet, I've been working a lot lately to get serious research done so I have something to go on with my applications. I recently won a research grant from my university to go to Greece and study some monastic traditions (I do study of / philosophy of religion), and hopefully I'll be able to get the work I accomplish there published.
If you can get something published in undergrad, that would be great. I don't think many grad students, let alone undergrads are good enough to publish work though, so good luck!
Does anyone know how to fix this issue? When I put a video in fullscreen mode the urlbar doesn't disappear. I'll post my version of twily's css and if you can point to where I should add or modify some code I would appreciate it.
Modified Twily's CSS: http://pastebin.com/xkFQE3xv
Where do you live?
I don't know about tutorials, but I could tell you what programs I use: bblean with bblean skin (for the taskbar and window wrappers), rainmeter (for the text-based launcher, system info and reminders) and firefox with a modifed version of Twily's css. For media I use MPC-BE (for video), frameless (for pictures) and MuPDF (for pdf documents). You can find all the above mentioned programs by googling their names.
The thing is, its pretty difficult to get all of those programs to look nice together consistently. It's difficult to walk you through how to do it, because they only real way is to experiment with different programs or mess around with code and settings until everything is perfect. The goal is to make everything seem like one coherent theme, but doing so is actually a lot of work. Ricing is basically a hobby at this point.
If you try out those programs but you get stuck on something, ask me or someone else on here for help on that specific issue. That's about the best advice I can give.
I live in Brazil anon. Either you're born on a rich family and get everything easy, born on a below-average family and have to study like a motherfucker and get all of the opportunities (which is hard as fuck to get) [this is me], or you get born in a miserable family and become a criminal.
I believe you. That's shitty. It is possible to do though; one of the PhD students here is from Argentina. I think he moved here when he was approximately 15 though, so it isn't quite the same.
Nevermind, I just managed the newer version to worker. Thanks anyway.
>match colors to wallpaper.
Nah, I change my wallpaper too often.
Using Style Builder, you just make an opaque png then set that as the border, or set it as the shadow like I do.
If you're new to CSS use Color Picker to find the grey you want to change and search for it in the code, then identify what selector changes what, it's how I started learning CSS.
you cant really tell but my old x61 has chunks of plastic missing, from some angles you can see the motherboard
and a lot of the ports dont work anymore
Hey, thanks, got the hang of it and changed the colors. Looking better now.
Got dual monitor to work with new font and color scheme. The font isn't really that bad, I can comfortably read them on my screen. Anyone have a good GTK theme for what I have? Also how do I into wallpapers with different resolution?
How can I make bblean themes override my VS like here? http://hal-ullr.deviantart.com/art/Flat-UI-bbLean-410357957
I don't assume he uses a separate VS for both bblean and the style. BBlean doesn't change for me and my VS stays as is. Pic Related.
Look at his terminal. He's using Aero. bbleanskin will skin borders and captions only. He has separate configs for bbstylemaker and his terminal that make them match.
Learn to read pls.
None, the point of bblean, and ricing in general, is to increase functionality.
Basically make a system restore point and don't replace any system files unless you really what you're doing.
google.com is your friend.
Well you did ask how to hide everything.
Sorry, probably should have worded that better. After using Ribbondisabler or something like Oldnewexplorer, it would usually replace the ribbon with another bar. But I wasnt sure how to hide that completely.
You should get some icons, man.
This is so lovely.
Yeah, I've seen a similar setup around, too. Either on /wg/ or here, whatever. Looks good, except for the player, the colors are kind of mismatching.
Why two browsers open?
Oh, this is what I aim at a bright/white desktop. Very good indeed.
Am I understanding this right? bbstylemaker allows me to to create a style after messing around in the sliders?
Also, what do I have to use to edit the default style lean_blue?
Thanks a lot for the help. My only experience with this stuff is Rainmeter code and Python.
do what I did!!
I like having static wallpapers as a feature of my desktop, but have tons of wallpapers I like
so I use them as random splash screens on the homepage
One day I'll switch to Mac and nothing will make sense for me anymore
Does anyone else use bug.n? I've been trying out tiling window managers and I'm finding it to be really complicated. What are the major benefits of using a tiling WM?
In particular, I'm having trouble setting my desktop margins. Config_viewMargins doesn't seem to work.
I'm a bit curious on your version of firefox, I still haven't updated mine since 28 or so, but if i do update my css will die. Been trying a few css's but they all seem f** up after the new update.
