Just because it sold better doesn't always mean it's better inherently like from a gameplay perspective. I do think that OoT has amazing controls that held up extremely well and the additional side contents are still as enjoyable as almost 20 years ago. I also bought the 3DS remake and it feels like a huge improvement to me. Especially the portability, gyro controls and the slightly higher framerate make it a must own for 3DS owners and if you really don't feel like buying it, then get some 3DS emulator and run it from there at least if you haven't tried it yet. Didn't mean that specifically to the poster I replied here with the last sentence by the way.
