quickly watched some playthroughsof overdrive, rally1+2 and hyberbike just now and was not impresed.

Top gear 1 simple and fun, amongst the greatest chiptunes.
top gear 2 is good enough with its parts shop, acceptable chiptunes
top gear 3000 seems like they tried to get inspiration from RnR Racing or others (dunno the dates), nothing much different from tp2, bad sounds, and just tries too much to be more elaborated but just ends up being less fun.

frankly, if you want more elaborated than TP2, might as well jump to need for speed 3, or just NFS hot pursuit 2 (NFS6?) (not retro)

How is TG Rally 2? I actually own it but haven't gotten around to playing it because my backlog SO VERY large. But I did very much enjoy TGR1 so I'd like to know how they compare.

N64's racing library is underrated desu. It's in my top 3 console racer libraries along with Xbox and Dreamcast.

I have finished all N64 top gear games. I'd rank them as follows:

1- TG Overdrive
2- TG Rally 2
3- TG Rally
4- TG Hyperbike

Rally 1 has better graphis and soundtrack, but rally 2 has better gameplay, has more customization and awesome multiplayer. Also, way more tracks. The first one had only 6 or so.

It isn't underrated, it's overrated. Most of these games have awful driving mechanics and would be among the bottom of PS1 racing roster even though weren't released as early.

Top Gear on SNES was fun, and great soundtrack.
Rally had cool car damage.
