Best retro Trek games?
Can't go wrong with 25th Anniversary and Judgement Rites
>>4240095
Did they have to shoot up the actual Enterprise? They could have changed the commission number called it some other Constitution class ship.

I quite liked this one TNG set game boy game. Don't remember its name though.
Is the NES game any good? Or is it bad because AVGN said so?
>>4240317
It is not terrible. The music will grate on your ears a bit in a few places. Knowledge of TOS will help a little in some of the puzzles and there are tons of callbacks to several episodes. If you're not a ST fan, then you can safely pass this one.
>>4240065
Doubly so if you loved SFB
>>4240202
But that's the thing, in the one mission near the end during the Genesis Weapon Earth scenario, you actually can run into the Enterprise-A with Kirk, and if you're skilled enough, you can make the cover art happen.
>>4240903
I like the 3rd game with the mod that adds all the ships from every era.
>>4240912
I see. I stand corrected.
>>4240065
I played a lot of EGA Trek when I was a kid. You explore space and fight Klingons. Based on an older Trek game that ran on mainframes iirc. It was unauthorized and they eventually stripped out the IP violations.
If it came out now, people would call it a roguelike.
bump for more trek

>>4240095
How funny. I just started watching TOS again cause I'm getting hyped up for Discovery.
I'd love some game recommendations!
>>4240065
Deep Space 9 on the Megadrive is pretty good.
Starfleet Academy on the 32X
>>4243775
Man I really hope Discovery ends up being good.
>>4244931
And I hope capitalism finds a way to be a moral system. Don't get your hopes up.
>>4243775
TOS is such a fucking great series. Honestly I think TNG took about 2 seasons until it got as good, TOS is fun to watch right from the start, and gets better.
>>4244943
Right? I just got up to Season 2. Amok Time is such a great episode.
>>4244943
The first two seasons of TNG were inexusibly bad. Folks who say TNG is their favorite trek tend to forget about S1 & 2. That's why DS9 is my favorite; It was solid even in season 1.
>>4245690
Really? Are you purposely blocking out "Move Along Home" then? Because that episode is almost on par with VOY's "Threshold". Almost. So terrible.
>>4245690
Season 2 wasn't completely worthless. It had Q Who, the best Borg episode.
>>4240065
Am I blind or has nobody mentioned Netrek? Why the fuck not?
>>4245857
regarding threshold
That's a whacky bit of /vr/ related trek trivia.
>>4240065
Voyager: Elite Force
DS9: The Fallen
>>4245857
Move Along Home was just a bump in the road, compared to TNG season 1 which had MANY stinkers.
>>4240317
Didn't he actually say it was kind of good?
>>4243775
>(remastered)
Why would you do that?
>>4240903
That game was pretty enjoyable. I liked that you had so many options that every battle felt like a major struggle with multiple solutions, even if most of them ended up pretty drawn out for the same reason.
>>4244931
With all the behind the scenes drama I have become pretty pessimistic. I'm more interested in The Orville at this point.
>>4248129
I think The Orville will be fine. For all crap Seth McFarlan gets, the fact is the first season of all his shows tend to be pretty good for the most part. After that he runs out of ideas so season 2, if there is one, is a toss-up.

>Best retro Trek games?
Well that was easy. What do I win?
>>4248278
A voucher for one (1) free drink at Quark's Bar, not transferable. Only valid until the next regime change, so hurry up.
>>4240065
Yeah, I downloaded the torrent too but I have no idea where to start. Series always seemed silly to me and so I've not gotten into the games. I have only seen the reboot movie which was pretty cool but the whole drilling into a planet before detonating something seems excessive when detonation at the surface or nearby could do the trick just as well. I think Star Control 2 (Ur-Quan Masters) is probably my favorite in this style of games.
>>4248278
You win a new Trek series!
>>4248457
If you're not into Star Trek, you won't get much out of most of these games. There are good and even excellent ones, but they rarely transcend their brand so you're better off playing similar games with original settings or those utilizing brands you care about.
Worth mentioning is Elite Force, considering that game is pretty well regarded while most people hate Voyager, so if you're into shooters give that one a try.
Starfleet Command is also pretty unique, so you might enjoy it on its own merits - a lot of the content was based on The Original Series, but they also made up a lot of new stuff. It's a slow paced space combat simulator, comparable to age of sailing style battles were the ships maneuver around each other while trying to get off broadside shots, just with tractor beams, shields, mines, boarding parties and the occasional fighter squadron thrown into the mix.

TREK IS DREK
>>4243127
Especially the episodes you take on the Romulan Phoenix and the Excelsior.
Plus the briefing room music:

Is that Underground Gamer?
Isn't that site long dead?
>>4248484
Thanks for the very informative answer. The closest to this series of games I played was Star Control 2, Solar Winds, the first Mass Effect, Masters of Orion, and Space Quest 5. No, I am not trolling, just how it ended out. I think the themes of space exploration, political and war strategy, and a freeform narrative fits videogames pretty well. I am in the mood for point & click adventure games at the moment, so is the one in pic related the one to try out?
>>4249402
Yeah, it was. Currently their layout is a tan-brown.
There is that successor site which requires begging for invites. I just don't want to brig myself to do that.
>>4249686
>Star Control 2, Solar Winds, Master of Orion
Birth of the Federation is your best bet
>>4244943
TOS just gets worse though
Season 3 was a real stinker
Also Elite Force best ST game.
>>4248457
reupload it somewhere dogg
>>4244943
My problem with TOS is that the episodes are either great or a steaming pile of shit with no real inbetween...and the plot of every one seems like it could be shit just from the description so there's no way of knowing beforehand.
>>4250385
I'd still argue S3 of TOS is still not as bad as S1/2 of TNG. Kirk/Spock/McCoy really carried that third season with their performances if when the episode was bad.
>>4244931
Alex Kurtzman is in charge. Brian Fuller got the boot and the show is in turmoil, so he stepped in to run things. The show will be gritty melodramatic shit with ridiculously busy, over-designed visuals, just like every other Kurtzman project.
Here's hoping the rest of the crew can come up with some episode ideas that can shine through the mountains of shit he's shoveling onto it.
>>4241254
EGA Trek was awesome. Also why has this thread turned into /tv/?
>>4240065
It's not a Star Trek branded game, but Starflight is the best Star Trek game ever made. (Yes, it's even better than Star Control II)
