Anyone here win?
These """""""""""""""""""""""contests"""""""""""""""""""""""" are always rigged, man
>>4238079
>Anyone here win?
No, but my sister had one of them she bought new. It was a fucking beast.
>>4238079
These are shit but I got the 3rd place-tier prize in the Nintendo Power Mario Kart 64 (Mario Raceway) contest. I was like 135th, or 85th or something. Got a MK64 calling card with FIVE WHOLE MINUTES wooo.
Relevant post if anyone's interested:

Not me ofc, but I got the same stuff.
my brother won a surfing pikachu in a nintendo power contest, other than that I've never heard of anyone winning something substantial from any of these
>>4238079
That car is perfect for that game's target audience.
>>4238180
my sides
>>4238079
Reminds me of when one of the prizes in Nintendo Power was the car from Robocop! The car being a beat to shit Ford Taurus that had been rattle canned flat black
wow, what a hella phat ride
>>4238079
>9.9.99
That's the msrp for the car new
I emailed Capcom years way back wondering about the winner of the cameo for the Resident Evil movie from Resident Evil 2 sweepstakes and ended up with a response that they gave the winner an arcade cabinet instead but they never mentioned what game though.
>>4238079
what a shitty fucking prize
>>4238079
>that """car"""
Looks exactly like what I'd expect a Squallfag to drive
>>4238079
Yes, that would be me. I won that contest, and yes -- I DO still drive this and play Final Fantasy 8.
Coincidence?
>>4238526
This. Fuck that, here is a much more important question:
What happened to the kid Konami sent to Romania in 1989, during the fall of communism and the resulting civil war? Did he ever make it home?
>>4238079
FF8 is so comfy
>>4238487
A better deal either way.
>>4238907
Oh Jesus Christ.
Fuck all you niggers, thinking you had it so bad with your shitty Squall Toyota. What the fuck happened to this shit???!! The OG contest fuckup, and what an epic fuckup it was
>>4239625
>Expecting Atari to deliver on promises and not fuck everything
well there's your problem right there
>>4238907
WE NEED TO FIND OUT
>>4239625
Two of them were awarded, and the rest were melted down and sold to pay off Atari's bills at the time. We know this. It's not a mystery.
>>4238079
>retail value $10,000
Wow, it wasn't even that long ago and that feels really cheap for a car now.
These are marketing ploys to get consumer info. I don't ever hear of anyone ever winning any of these, someone somewhere would have said something by now after all this time. And that even goes for modern gaming "sweepstakes"
>>4238212
That piece of crap even looks prerendered
I have heard there was some contest associated with this game as well. Did anyone win that one?
>>4240958
You can get cars for like 500-1000 or if you have enough friends probably be given one at some point
To keep it retro I recommend playing Gran Turismo 1
>>4238079
>fantastic
>babbage's
Am I being bamboozled?
>>4238487
It was probably Street Fighter since it's the only Capcom arcade cabinet sold like hotcakes

Reminds me of Nickelodeon Super Toy Run

>So that was when I selected all the games I wanted, and it was an absolute surreal experience. Any video game that relatively piqued my interest, piqued anything, if it caught my attention, I grabbed it. I had this big phone-book-size stack of pieces of paper, each one representing a video game.
>pre-order a game today
>get some cosmetic DLC and useless weapons
>pre-order a game in the 90s
>get a car
Are they even trying anymore?
>>4238079
>Hollywood video
>Toys R Us
\Really brings back the feels as i enjoyed everyone of those places as a kid.

and I just won...
>>4238907
The sticker right there says it was 1991, Ceaucescu was already dead by then
More pressing matters: Who here has redeemed their Pizza Hut coupon from NES TMNT 2?
>>4243348
I found an old Book IT badge a while back. One sticker short of a personal pan

what do you think is the oldest computer game competition that still hasn't been won?

Rock The Cock

>>4239625
oh, so that's where the plot to this came from
>>4240867
Atari was so much better in the early days when they were chilling and burning trees in the office
>>4238079
>Need to sell a product
>Call up marketing company
>Set up 100,000 budget for contest
>10,000 on car, 90k on advertising
>Many people see it and enter, associating the good feelings of possibly winning with said product, subconsciously think more about said product, and thus talk more about said product for more word of mouth advertising
>Draw date comes around
>People running the contest give the prize to a friend, who takes the cash option if there is one and splits it with them
>People still buy the product regardless
Everyone walks away happy. Contest organizers go Hell in the end, though. Sad.
>>4238907
>VOID IN QUEBEC
Every contest in Canada is like that, the same goes for donating blood. "Have you ever taken steroids or illegal drugs with a needle? Have you ever had sex with a prostitute? Have you ever donated blood in Quebec?" Those are real questions they ask you.
>>4247580
What's so bad about Quebec? The whole country trips over itself to accommodate those proto-cajun fucks.
>>4247606
That's the thing, I don't know what the problem is. I'm fine with having French on our product labels and advertising but why is healthcare treated differently in Quebec and these contests?
/vr/ question, anybody here from Quebec who grew up feeling bad because you couldn't enter these contests? Did you have your own contests in Quebec?
>>4238907
Questions like this need to be answered. I remember thinking about this every time I looked at the box art as a kid.
I just messaged Konami on Facebook, since their only have a mailing address on their website. Let's see if they respond.
>>4243329
and a Legend was born...
>>4247635
Isn't that all of Canada though? All of my games and all of our products in stores have French on one side and English on the other. I still don't understand how they have a different healthcare system and insurance system than the rest of Canada.
>>4248990
this video is amazing. I feel sorry for the poor fuck that won this car.
>>4244048
I don't think there ever was a way to figure this shit out. Plus having to buy 2 games to figure out the damn puzzle is pretty lame.
>>4238097
[citation needed]
>>4246416
Even if they give the car away to someone (which makes more sense from a marketing perspective than giving it to a friend) they make a killing.
I run contests on my business all the time. Give away $100 worth of stuff, get $3000 in sales and tons of new customers, and a few very happy people who will speak well of the company.
>>4249008
yer im sure it was basically a con
i won a final fantasy IX sweater back in 2000 or 2001. it was the logo printed on the front of an incredibly cheap and thin white sweater that was like size XXL and hung off my lanky 14yo frame like a worn rag. i still wore it to school and while i didn't get beat up for it, i should have desu.
i don't blame square europe by the way. it was a contest from a popular but sucky gaming magazine for kids in germany, bravo screenfun (Only 90s Kids Will Remember), which i borrowed from my little brother. pretty sure they just struck a licensing deal for that shit or something.
