use guerilla tactics
if some bug happens that gives you an advantage, don't hesitate to use it
savescum until you get good enough that you don't have to anymore

If you're outdoors, you should basically always be prone unless you're retreating.

If you're indoors, find the room with no windows and and camp the door.

It really is a prime savescum game. You really don't wanna be losing your mercs (and thus the money you've invested in them) because of one tiny but extremely brutal mistake you've made. Ironman mode is a fucking ballbusting experience.

You wanna have your IMP character as stealthy night ops and just have him used silenced weapons in the beginning until you can get some real hardware. You can easily take the first town with the main guy, Ira and one mid / mid low tier merc. Then you can start hiring guys that don't suck. Barry is actually good to start with cause he can pick almost all the locks in the first few towns until you get Magic. Otherwise it's just save and load and save and load.

Its kinda terrifying to see buildings getting mowed down in a straight line towards me in the fog of war.
Wish they weren't so fucking buggy for me, kept making sectors unwinnable since they got stuck outside of the map.

Iron Man mod is the only way to properly enjoy the game. I'm not saying you should soldier on after losing an entire squad, but savescumming destroys some of the most important mechanics that makes the game interesting.

Just advance slowly and never go through the pre-existing doors. Create your own doors with explosives. With a pair of high marksmanship mercs (Lynx I think the guy is called, and the lady who is a bast medic is both obscenely cheap and obscenely useful) and a skilled medic you'll go far, especially on easy difficulty.

the thing with that webm is that I managed to make Barry crawl "under" the rock somehow, which covered him from any gunfire. you can see how otherwise pinpointed some of the bursts are

same thing also happened on another occasion when I made Manuel crouch behind a rock - enemy bullets just wouldn't hit him

Do not always use all AP but rather get your guys into position for interrupts.

Yeah, but the game is way too punishing to play ironman until you've at least completed 1 playthrough. You can't even start training militia and making money with the mines until like half way through the game so if you make a tiny mistake and die (especially during something like the dressen counterattack which is just a fucking massive difficulty spike that early on) you have no money to fall back on to hire more mercs. Especially in vanilla where the only place to sell gear and make money without using the mines is that one merchant in that town, instead of being able to sell directly from the map loot screen like 1.13.

sounds like you have a bad strategy

not iron-man but very minimal save scumming
>IMP + 4 mercs (at least 1 good HtH/martial arts fighter, like Bull)
>send Ira + IMP + 1 merc to Drassen
>send rest to San Mona, win fight club, then to Chitzena (aiming for night time)

You could, but a week with a good marksman with rifle worth all the losers this money can buy instead, IMO. Especially on easy difficulty.

Just walk into Drassen, take your time. Drassen alone will cover cost of good marksman and good medic salary, the rest can work with MERC milita trainers and locals / mid-tier mercs until you are filthy rich.
