If you are playing as Bass, the casual filter only happens on King's Fortress and maybe Dynamo Man's boss battle.

That's funny way to spell 'bad game design'. I like SM but this was bullshit, you can't expect player to do stuff if you don't teach them. And it's not like the game doesn't go out of its way to teach player controls through text tutorials and demonstration later on, so this was clearly a slip-up.

What did the game demonstrate besides the wall-jump and the super speed jump? Because I don't recall the game giving tutorials for anything besides those two techniques. And running is a single button press, not a technique that requires explanation.

I don't know why they felt the need to put that in, since half of the techniques are unusable in the real game. At least they learned their lesson and didn't bother doing that with the sequel.

You have to be taught to push a button? It's not a complex input. Whenever you start a new game you should always test every button to see what they do. They only way someone would not have known to run is because they were completely oblivious how to play the game, in which case it's a miracle they made it that far to begin with.
