when you use one of these, does it feel like playing the actually legit game or do you know it's a rom and don't give a fuck? when i'm playing on an emulator, i just can't get into the game and just don't give one fuck about it. playing on a real cart just feels more engaging.
>>
I wont help your hipster status. I think that's what you're getting at.
>>
These will destroy your console so theres that.
>>
>>4206356
>do you know it's a rom
do you know its a rom on official hardware? are you retarded?
>>
>>4206356
The experience is identical in every way to the original cart. The console executes the program it is fed, it matters not what source it comes from. It's not an emulator.
>>
I've been using an N64 one. It works perfectly with all of the games except New Japan Pro Wrestling Tohkon Road for some reason.
>>
Original hardware executing original roms. It's perfect. There's nothing to worry about at all.
>>
I have a Super UFO Pro 8, and between dumping my carts and ROMs I download, it's way more convenient and plays games pretty well. It has some weird quirks to saves and file names though, so it's not perfect

I have an Acekard 2i, which I have used since my DS Lite and now I've been using on my 3ds to play Ouendan

>when you use one of these, does it feel like playing the actually legit game or do you know it's a rom and don't give a fuck?
Actually I don't care unless I look at the back and see it's a flashcard. Most of the time I'm just playing the game and having fun.

>playing on a real cart just feels more engaging.
Just play the fucking game buddy. It's not like you pause the game, look at the flashcart and experience negative fun.
>>
If it were just a rom like the original cartridges that would mean that every game would be playable without any problems.

For a lot of games there is absolutely no difference. For most others the differences are so little no one except the most hardcore hobbyists will notice.

For some games you can definitely notice.

Any game that has special chips or whatever are not like playing on real hardware since it has to emulate the chips for example the Super FX chip. Now if you dump the rom on a cartridge that actually has that chip then yes it's the same as the real deal. This is why many Stunt Race FX games get sacrificed to play Star Fox 2 :(

I bought a genesis flash cart last year and decided to keep my actual carts out too.

After a month I put my originals away.

After 3 months I had sold them all.

The flash cart might as well be the real deal to me. I'm playing the real system, the real controllers, on a real TV, no emulation or finicking with other things. Even on Nomad the games play just like real carts. I don't see any reason to distinguish between them.
>>

That's bullshit, what the he'll is wrong with people

No. But whatever floats your boat dude.
>>
>>4206356
I don't have one. I feel I would like to use one for wicked expensive games or romhacks and translations, but I don't doubt I would use it as a replacement for swapping out carts, especially on the NES and it's shitty connector slot.
>>
>>4206356
OP where the hell do you think roms come from?

Do you have any proof of this barring games that use special hardware on their board like Virtua Racing or Star Fox?

Ive completed.many games on emulators and on flash carts. Always feels good and satisfying

Famicom/NES flashcarts have to simulate the mappers, so there are some incompatibilities, sound inaccuracies on expansion chip games, etc. That's the only example I can think of. Most other consoles don't have such a huge library of games where the cartridge itself has so much extra circuitry.

I got my legit Everdrive MD used off of eBay for $50.

Just keep looking, they pop up at a good price from time to time.

And yeah, once I got mine, along with my SuperEverdrive, I sold all of my Genesis and SNES carts. Pretty much paid for them that way, and I didn't even have a bunch of carts at the time.
>>
>>4207190
By the way, $49 brand new. I feel like an idiot for buying a used one now.

It's already happening. This happens with every hobby. The people who had nostalgia to buy back their old games have done so now, and the new generation coming up doesn't care about them as much. You see it more with NES games right now, but SNES soon. A few years ago a Super Mario Bros. for NES would be $15 easily, now you won't get $10.

I've been seeing dumps of import games in thrift stores and peddler's malls. At one near me there are about 50 Super Famicom games for sale for $3 each. pic related. They've been sitting there for a year.

However, PlayStation is now going up.
>>
It feels legit and saves you money in the long run. Hipsters that collect games but don't play them ruined retro gaming prices.
>>
>>4213195
>are you going to prove to a kid that santa isn't real or just keep dancing around?
lel
>>
>>4213265
>Hipsters that collect games but don't play them ruined retro gaming prices.

Nothing to do with hipsters. You're talking about a very small subset of people influenced by a culture that no one else cares about. The real cause of price hikes is resellers buying up large quantities of the same games and hoarding them in their basements. This creates an atmosphere of artificial scarcity.

Either the resellers will start dying off, or they'll eventually come to realize why their sale model doesn't actually work. Then the price of retro games may start to see a sharp decline. Plus these guys have to compete with international sellers. A lot of us have resorted to importing since it's much cheaper.
>>
>>4213275
That's a good point. Hopefully the latter happens. That being said, I was at a convention (Otakon) earlier this month and they were selling imports at a pretty damn high price compared to what I remember seeing them at on Amazon.
>>
>>4213218
China Version is only like $10 cheaper and you have to wait for China shipping. Just buy the real thing.
>>
>>4213267
Santa is real though dumbass.
>>
Not technically retro I guess, but I just got OPL set up on my PS2. Shit's amazing. I already have flash carts/mods for just about every other system, just need to mod my Dreamcast and Saturn and I'll have every game I'd ever want to play right there on real hardware.

For anyone else looking at OPL, avoid those chinese network adapter clones. I went with one of those first because SATA, and it was garbage. Constantly freezing during gameplay, half the games just wouldn't even start. Then I picked up an official Sony network adapter on ebay along with a SATA upgrade kit, haven't had a single problem since then. Even works great over ethernet aside from some occasional music stuttering.
>>
>>4213247
$24 shipping + taxes.

china shipping saves me the taxes.
>>
>>4213475
You don't need to mod the dreamcast. Just burn a game
>>
>>4213636
>Just burn a game

That's exactly what I want to avoid. I'm working on getting everything running off solid state.

So, they are selling 50-100 JPY games for $3? Serves them right.
>>
>>4214436
I don't see why anyone would want a multicart in the age of flashcarts. It serves no purpose.
>>
>>4215821
Exactly. Why pay $15 for the 100 games that range from great to playable when you can have every turd and it's 4 versions and shitty rom hacks on an SD for and extra $40?
>>
I don't see the point in a Genesis flash cart since Kega Fusion has zero input lag and works just as well. Can anyone to me explain the appeal of real hardware if you're not a hobbyist collector?

the issue with special hardware is well known, but thats not what you originally implied in
>>4206546
>For most others the differences are so little no one except the most hardcore hobbyists will notice.
>For some games you can definitely notice.
that is completely bulshit, the only proven statement you have uttered was
>Any game that has special chips or whatever are not like playing on real hardware
what the other anon is asking you to list is your alleged "most others games hobbyst would notice" and even "some games you can definitely notice" (implied even non hardcore hobbysts will notice some)... you didnt unambiguously state that all your references to games that dont work 100% was in fact just about special hardware, was it then?

as an example, on SNES theres almost 100 games with special chips
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Super_NES_enhancement_chips
are there any other games that wont run properly on SNES flashcarts that arent related to special chip issues?

just bought a custom everdrive 64 v3 and i'm real happy with it.
runs the entire n64 library and i no longer need my real carts around.

i always considered 64 emulation good enough but years of emulating make you forget how different games run on real hardware.
