Sonic 3D Blast was an experiment that failed, and they had the sense not to replicate. A one-off blip on the series.
SA was a mistake they ran with. The origin point of several generations worth of bad games.

3D Blast was shoved out eth door at the last second. They were even originally planning a Saturn/PC release at all. Sega was already taking on water, they knew the ship was going under.

I never finished it, but I did actually like the driving. I liked how vulnerable you were in the cars, and how you had to quickly get them started and get moving before the enemies caught up with you. I liked how you had to quickly rummage through the cars for items whenever you got the chance, knowing that an enemy could catch up with you at any moment. The first person view made it better.

This game could have been great. I loved that the inventory was your coat and pockets, and that looking down to grab stuff meant the enemies were still coming. It made for a pretty intense experience.
But then the game was just a let down overall, so that nice little touch was ruined.

You're lucky that game was so popular that it staved off the 3D cancer for almost 2 decades.

Without it, Castlevania 64 would have ACTUALLY killed the series. Instead they realized that people wanted more 2D Casltevanias.
