Post instances of you going through retarded lengths to get something to run. Bonus points if it's not even that good.
Saw a few people meming Captain Claw, so I decided to give it a go myself.
>Oh hey, there's a justwerx rip tailored specifically for modern operating systems. How convenient!
Won't start on my Win10 64-bit computer. Error at launch regardless of what I do.
>okay, I'll just use VMware
>install Win98 and the game
Nope, jump height is fucked and the camera doesn't pan with Claw.
>fuck, guess I'll use PCem
>find out that 430vx, S3 Virge, and 166mhz will work best for Win98 emulation
>install Win98 somewhat slowly
>install the game
Finally fucking works.it's okay
Anyone else just like the challenge now and then?
Reminds me of when I managed to run GTA1 on dosbox with proper music, I forgot the steps though.
Trying to get the copy of System Shock 2 from HotU back before people made a million patches for the game.
Ultimate Domain/Genesia. Turn-based strategy type game, not very good either. But I owned it back when I had a 486, and I wanted to play it again. Tried DosBox, tried VMware, it wasn't until I ran it through PCem that it finally worked.

Yeah, remember thinking it always felt icky til I used DOSbox, and still kinda do. That new version has mixels that fuck up the minimap. Unfortunately DOSbox struggled to run it on my PC in 2005, but it did it well enough in 320x200. A lot better going now though.

ouch. Always been able to convince DOSbox to run DOS titles with some config combo. Been curious about stuff that simply does not work in it
>>4198765
Well, it technically works with DosBox, but it will crash and lockup hard after a minute or two, making it unplayable. I'm not sure how stable it is under PCem, but I didn't have it crash once in the 20-30 minutes I was playing around with it. Then all my people died of disease.

If you ever fuck around with DOSbox again try the simple core and running some stuff at lower cycles. Noticed some shit doesn't work properly with Dynamic and high cycles.

I think you know most of my stories, Jeff.
>>4198847
Oh I did, I even found a guide for specific settings for getting it to run. It would run, it would just lockup and freeze and crash after a minute or two.

I emulate PC-98 games, 'nuff said.
