I still play MUDs religiously, specifically Armageddon. It's still very active and more interactive than any game with graphics ever will be.

I still play Discworld MUD on occasion. Its fantastic if you like to read Terry Pratchett stuff.

I played dragon realms on all for a couple months back in the day.
Last I checked they were still around.
Barrier to entry is pretty intense. Everyone has a zillion unique items and don't hangout in the low level areas.

People are pretty nice though. A guy stopped me and gave me a nice weapon because I was a new (tried a trial a few years ago)

My old character name and my 'rp' makes me want to drink poison like the bird from that comic.

Been playing Legends of the Jedi recently but Alter Aeon and Discworld still suck me back in frequently.

I started a mud my freshman year in college. It got pretty popular. Some faggot junior who had an established but unpopular mud on the same server kept libeling me and my mud on usenet and telling others to use his mud instead. I tracked him down at a cafeteria and politely asked him to stop making up lies about my mud and me. He would not make eye contact and did not respond, and trembled a bit. The usenet posts stopped. His mud never made it. I passed along my codebase and mine is still running today. This is a true story.

I have a question. What do you do in these games? What are the main few activities you spend most of your time on? Is there a lot of social roleplaying stuff?

I've been playing video games incessantly for decades and I still don't know what you even do in a MUD.

I normally do it by avoiding any RPI muds and sticking with the hack'n'slash ones. Recently I started messing around in a star wars RPI one though because history and description is not too hard with the massive amount of star wars resources around.

I like it the most, can do a heap with some basic regex and lua. Mushclient probably has more premade add-ons for non IRE muds though.
