The problem with FF2&3 is they are pathetically easy. On my first and only play through I found I could get to at least the middle stages without dying relaying on just basic use of throws. Some of the bosses didn't even damage me.

Only 3 enemies allowed on screen at once is part of it. Makes the whole crowd control game way too easy.

In general this is the big problem with almost all console beat em ups compared to the arcade ones. How incredibly low skill they are.

The only big console beat em ups I know of are SoR 2,3 which make up for the low number of enemies by just making everything super fast. The other is Sonic Blast Man 2 which had a very large arsenal of moves and enemies that were aggressive enough to make you have to relay on them. You can't just keep full control with throws and simple positioning

The arcade FF is the only really hardcore game.

Final Fight 3 is one of the most underrated beat 'em ups ever. So fun. Only bad thing about it is slowdown in multiplayer.
