Is there a correct term for up-ones?
extra life
It's stupid to call it a 1up in anything other than a Mario game.
>>4177194
This.
It was always life/lives for me and everyone I know.
>>4177194
Several non-Mario games use 1-UP, but I agree that extra life is the second most acceptable.
>>4177187
i dunno
Technically I think a 1-up is just the item that gives you an extra life. The actual resource is lives.

I had different names for different days.
On mondays they would be Enzos.
Then the rest of the days of the week was, in this order: Nico, Greg, David, El Enzo (not to be confused with Enzos), Diego, Flavio.
There wouldn't be any plurals though.
Like "Oh I've got 4 El Enzo lef".

Even in the beginning there was little standard. "extended play" was even used a lot in the vinyl and cassette era

I would agree this is most likely the closest to a solid definition in the current lexicon

There is no universal term, which has been an ongoing debate since video games were invented.
In pong, the opponents score was your lives and they were called (you guessed it) plink planks.
In the UK of course, you mostly called them Auntie Brown Breads on account that they were anti-game over resources.

I've legitimately never heard anyone say anything besides 1-Up or just "lives".
Except that one Fairly OddParents episode where Timmy calls them a "free man".
