how hard is it to /vr/ in mainland China? Moving in sept for work
>>
No copyright law so you can do whatever you want in theory.
>>
>>4166941
do you speak chinese? i've been learning for about two years now
>>
You'll be in reproduction cart central, so it should be pretty easy.
>>
>>4166941
Depends very much on what you want to do and where you are. I assume, since you're moving there, you're aware it's a very big place.

>>4166974

>>4167165

i'm cool with repros honestly, at least while i'm living there and my actual collection is safe at home. wondering mostly how common it is to see /vr/ stuff, and where to buy
>>
>>4167185
I probably reproduced before you were born sport.

>>4167384
Like I said, depends on what and where. Sounds like you're in for a bit of a shock on size, history and economic diversity.

I'd be more worried about finding air to breathe than vidya.
>>
>>4167741

possibly. have you been to china? going to quanzhou
>>
>>4167862
"Quanzhou was China's 12th-largest extended metropolitan area in 2010."

Okay you're gonna be in a major city. I'm not sure what your fear is.
>>
>>4167814

Eh, I stayed in Beijing for a month back in 2014, the summers aren't bad, but the winters are pretty bad for smog.
>>
>>4167814
>>4167914
Beijing is just fine. You don't actually see the smog anyways. Your lungs will be fine. Your throat may just scratch a little after some while, but that's nothing.

>>4167384
>vr stuff
Haven't even seen much of that in Shanghai or so, but I never actually looked for it. Just remember they never had any Nintendo products.
Other than that, it occasionally feels like Bootleg Japan, so there you go.
>>
>>4167741
>sport.

kek, kys gramps
>>
Moving to China? Unironically, check out serpentza videos so you don't get taken advantage of. Chinese people love ripping off foreigners, they see you as exploitable trash.
>>
>>4167862
>quanzhou
Could be worse but will still be shit. Learn to enjoy MVS bootlegs. I've lived in China(s) for over 25 years.

>>4167886
Perhaps his fear is that in 1990 the average person there would have to save every penny they made for three lifetimes to afford a famicom?

>>4167975
Summers gonna summer.
>>
>>4168683
Were there even real Famicoms in China? Exactly what years did the import ban stretch? I feel like someone should make OP be aware that certain consoles are almost completely absent, right?
>>
>>4166948
if it's anything like communism was in Poland then there are some sorts of copyright laws like ZAiKS, they just don't care about foreign copyright laws
>>
>>4168715
I already said that home consoles were pretty much forbidden up until the 21st century. No actual Nintendo consoles.
iQue exists since 2002 and is a sub-group of Nintendo operating in China. Its games are very limited, however. Very limited. Literally a handful of games for every console, even the 3DS et al only have less than ten games.
Playstation and XBOX are much more popular.

You could easily import NES et al, but it's still not common whatsoever.
>>
>>4168767
>import NES
With that I mean way back when. Bootlegs are much more common.

They have lots of imported japanese products at least in bigger cities. Some of them are bootlegs as well, probably, but I couldn't tell teh difference between bootleg figmas and normal ones.
>>
Nothing to add other than fuck you for betraying your home country. Hope you die with the gooks.
>>
>>4168715
Depends on your definition of China. In the Peopleless Republic Of China gaming was always massive. You can find pretty much anything, including locally made stuff and stuff from the British island to the south west. In the other China you won't even find a famicom outside of historically rich cities.
I don't know the details of the ban or how well it was enforced across one of the largest countries in the world. I do know that in the early 90's there was an arcade in shenzhen on a side street parallel to jianshe road about half way between the train station and the rice paddies. There was also a shop selling a massive plate of chowmein for ¥1 (US$0.10) and hookers trawling the street for ¥20 (US$2). I enjoyed all three.
>>
>>4166941
There's loads of wacky bootlegs and clones but unless you're into DOS stuff nothing you'd actually want. I heard they have a thriving arcade scene though.
>>
>>4168683

damn, welp i expected as much with the neo geo bootlegging. how hard is it imo to get like, a genesis clone/games or super senpai clone? i really would only need one or the other, and i can pack an everdrive.
>>
>>4169752

*super fami clone
>>
>>4168715
The import ban I believe was from 2001-2014. Wouldn't effect /vr/ stuff.
>>4168732
That's exactly it from what I read: you can rip off Samsung all day and night but the second you touch Huawei your ass is grass.
>>4167984
Only if you're some retard tourist who knows nothing about the country. If you speak Mandarin and let them know they'll fuck right off.
>>
>>4169761
>second you touch Huawei your ass is grass
Literally since the thing destroys itself within seconds
>>
>>4169761
>vr stuff
China didn't even have Pokemon until 2016. Officially, at least. Hong Kong and Taiwan did, but the rest was "banned" by Mainland China
>>
>>4169761
You speak chinese? Then what are you doing asking on 4chan instead of doing research in its own language
>>
>>4169780
They had the cartoon, the various comics, and I believe the cards, just not the actual games.
>>4169804
I don't know a lick of it but I assume con artists prefer targets who can't understand them.
>>
>>4169761
>fuck right off
Not entirely. Chinese (speaking about con artists, but also some business people) generally fuck over whites and blacks because they think they can. Speaking their language helps, but that won't necessarily stop them all.
>>
>>4169752
You'll have no problem finding clones. In fact, I'd suggest spending a substantial portion of your sub minimum wage teacher salary on collecting them. There's some amazing shit you'll never find anywhere else.

>>4169761
You believe wrong. You've obviously never spent any/much time there. A gweilo showing off his mandarin skills in guangdong will get fucked over >9000 times more than a tourist. Speak the local dialect and it might be a different story.

>>4169902
In some places it's not considered wrong but "clever" to fuck people over. And even people who have a similar moral compass will fuck you over if it means you loose 0.1% of an hours work and they get a days work. As for blacks, they're universally despised throughout Asia.
>>
>>4170271

hey now, i'm getting paid like 17000 rmb a month thats not THAT bad
>>
Isn't it actually easier to find old PC-98 to Windows 95/98 Japanese computer games in Chinese than it is in English?
>>
>>4170271

Nail on the head, and they'll get pissy if you call them out on it. I tell it to people dealing with them in business all the time but they don't believe me. It's why the Chinese send such crap over, they're gleefully conning buying.

During the late-80s, I remember seeing just a couple of Famicoms at a Jusco in mainland China (no idea if they still exist in the country). The Game & Watches were much more available in random stores in China. I wished I didn't give the game & watches away that I had gotten from that trip now, as they were pretty fun and helped me through the long flights back over the pacific. I was not in China long, as it was just a tourist thing when my primary stay was in Japan.

I think there was a 4chan article advising to not learn Mandarin which is a realistic approach to the horrors you may face when moving there. I think there was some sort of console ban since then, so you may not find any /vr/ in China aside from repros and clone consoles. I am guessing your console gaming in China will just be Xbox One I read that Xbox One launched pretty well in China, but has since botched their support for the system. I'm curious enough to know more about the state of non-PC gaming in China as information is limited, so keep me informed OP.

You mean this?

Also, I'd say the guy in pic related has the right of it. When I was growing up, my Dad was in the air force, and while he couldn't always swing it, he'd snatch up the whole family on his business trips, as much as he could anyway, and we'd all go with him and travel the world. At one point he got stationed just south of Beijing in a small town. Oddly enough, one of my best friends I met while I was there ended up over in California 20 years later and he and I bumped into each other in San Jose on a business trip. Anyway, most of the people there were pretty shit to us, but this was also 1976. I don't know if anything has really changed, but I remember I went down the street from our little place with my older brother one time and the guy charged us 3 times the normal price for the stuff he made. We had the money, yeah, but it wasn't until later my Dad told me that guy fucked us for our money. That's not the only experience, but it was a good way to set the tone for me never wanting to go back. Granted, I was a kid. Maybe China is a lot cooler now, but the Anon in pic related paints a decent enough picture for me to only stick to travelling a little if I were to ever go.
>>
>>4170438
>maybe china is a lot cooler now
Yes, but not in stores. They charge Chinese more as well once they know you're not from there.

Chinese in general are kind to foreigners, however, and will gladly help you out. After all, you're a poor foreigner lost in a country and they feel the need to show off by helping. Or something like that. But they're very nice.
>>
>>4170438
You should note that iron industry is renownedly corrupt, but there IS effort from the government to clean it up.
>>
>>4170317
Decent money for an ESL kid. But it's more about the perks.

>>4170382
It's all about business. There's a reason chinks are called the jews of asia.
>>
>>4166941
I do remember getting so called “alien junk” in Beijing for extremely cheap. It's a full box of PS2 games(Mostly legit, Jap ver and Hongkong ver) shuffled into random cd cases. Manage to dig out a Biohazard 4 and a full set of Dynasty Warriors(1 to 5) from the box along with some other random stuff.
>>
They don't even have rule of law there.

It's like a lite version of north korea.
>>
I did a 6 month stint teaching English to students there a couple years ago. I asked just about every person who would have an inkling about where to find the old chinese bootleg versions of games that used to be made, but nobody had a clue.

Oddly enough, it's probably easier to find those things in the U.S. than it is to find any in China itself.

As for ACTUAL retro games, don't expect much. Pretty much every Chinese person who games does it on pc, on mobile or in an arcade. I went to a few electronics stores that had boxes of consoles piled nearly to the roof because nobody would buy them even though they were selling them for cheap.

Say what you will about the Chinese ripping you off (they will) but they are a frugal people. They get a computer for/from work or school and use it for entertainment, almost nobody will pay money to watch a movie or play a game. Theaters and arcades are the only common exception to that.

Apparently a lot of movie distributors had to set up a legal torrenting/streaming site with adds, because piracy was so common that even the suits who run major companies recognized it brought more revenue than trying to get people to pay for movies.

The most popular games among my students were League of Legends and something called Crossfire.
>>
>>4170438
Buy their chinkshit like /g/ does, but never trust them 99% , then you won't feel too assburnt or jaded about it. Nothing personal. It's just /biz/ness to them.
>>
>>4169506
Goto Hong Kong. You'll probably still find some famicoms and stuff there. Hongkies are big weeaboos.

Otherwise why wouldn't you just emulate in a cunt that doesn't give a shit about westeros(or nip) copyrights?

That Spider-man PS1 remaster is looking phenomenal

Old data, but looks like prices there can get to ebay levels so Murikas and Nippon are still the best places for bargain bin prices.
>>
>>4170363
Yeah. None of them were made in Communist China. Those chink translated games were published by weeaboo Taiwan.

Oriental 188 is your best bet for retro stuff in HK from my experience. Cramped shopping arcade with tons of games and weeaboo stuff and a couple specialising in retro.

There are simila places in Kowloon like Sino Centre where you might find stuff like that as well, but I found most retro games in Oriental 188.

Might have some luck on Appliu Street as well.
>>
>>4173907 Oddly enough, it's probably easier to find those things in the U.S. than it is to find any in China itself.

I was in China in the early 2000's and shit like that was everywhere. Famiclones and KOF was all the rage. I regret not buying some of the things I saw, like a Mario vs Sonic fighting game for the NES.

Might have better luck checking out markets in smaller (by Chinese standards) cities these days, unless there's some hipster resurgence for old Chinese crap in Shanghai or something.
>>
>>4174890
I'm there now. It's a great place to find old vidya. Unfortunately it's no where near where OP is going.

>>4175594
There are a couple stalls off Apliu that have decent stock and not terrible prices. Aside from that everything is pretty much picked over.
