>start new file on FF7
>go to config
>set ATB to wait
>set battle speed to fast
>set camera angle to fix
>every battle is comfy

Feels so right, highly recommend and I'm sincerely enjoying the game more somehow

You're weird.
>>
>>4166597
Was FFVII the one with the ATB option that pauses the ATB during animations, but is on Active otherwise? That's the best system for FF combat.
>>
Diregard the OP. Active battle is objectively more challenging and fun.
>>
I understand how ATB was a huge innovation and I appreciate the way it's designed, but personally I just never liked it as much as regular turn based for the same reason I don't really like RTS games. It's just too fast and I like to have time to think about each action.

That said I can't play FF with the ATB set to wait, it just feels like I'm playing the game wrong or like I'm turning on easy mode.

They give you those options for a reason. Some of the games get really silly on max speed/active. FFIV gets so fucking fast that I had to berserk my party members just so I'd have to deal with less inputs.
>>
>>4166597
wait is the option that pauses the atb timer while you go through menus, right? I use that option as well, fixed camera too.
>>
>>4166652
also waits for battle animations
>>
>>4166597
Where's the option that skips all battles and just gives you the story?
>>
>>4166668
thats only on the iphone version LOL

Post more retro FF7 magazine covers/pages.

>>4166645
For me FF10 was the only one to get the combat right.
>>
>>4166848
this, FFX's combat system was perfect. Really felt like a game of chess where you can take your time and really plot out the most efficient strategy for each battle
>>
>>4166910
play a no sphere-grid game to really push the mechanics to their limits. the battle engine is very well designed. being able to swap out characters without penalty was a great idea. my only complaint is the black mage strategy is boring.
>>
>>4166936
I plant to do that after a no-marteria run of FF7. Which probably still won't be hard since the game was easy as fuck to begin with.
>>
>>4166597
Is ff10 <spoiler>/vr/ though</spoiler>
>>
>>4167339
No. You can still talk about it but you can't make threads about it.
>>
Man, this is exactly opposite of how I like to play. I prefer ATB active, fast and with angles.
>>
>>4166597
OP here, I think the reason why I like it is because so much is prerendered and fixed-camera, and when you go into battle -- that style remains
>>
>>4167352
same, active is what makes ATB special, but I think ncluding a wait option for those who didn't want to deal with the pressure is good game design
>>
>>4166848
This guy gets it
>>
>>4167024
no materia FF7 sounds incredibly boring because the only real difference between characters is their limit breaks.

at least with FFX no spheregrid everyone gets something that makes them unique for normal turns (ie low level magic, steal, ability to hit fast/tough/flying enemies), equipment has innate characteristics (unlike having to equip an added effect+sleepel to put shit to sleep), and you have summons. All are put to good use.
>>
>>4169092
Yeah, materia was the most important thing that made the FFVII combat fun. There should have been conditional action and loop materia, though.
>>
>>4166597
Barret and Reeve's fursona are completely obfuscated on the cover.

We never got cool shit like this with the UK magazines, not that I remember anyway.
>>
>>4166628
Yes.
>>
>>4171050
>We never got cool shit like this with the UK magazines
But we got adverts for porn and hentai sent to you via MMS on the back pages in some mags. So it worked out.
>>
>>4171050

UK mags were great, CVG in the early-mid 90s and N64 Magazine stand out as highlights. The free gifts were stellar, and the writing was uncompromisingly honest.
>>
>>4171092
>adverts for porn and hentai
Seriously? I'd like to see an example.
>>
>>4171282
A couple of 'em had numbers for phone sex hotlines too, if memory serves correct. That sounds outrageous but even the sunday papers at the time had stuff like that over here.
