The bird drops 200 rupees and it's right next to the ranch entrance so it's quick to respawn him. It just takes a lot of fire arrows to down him. Farming the bird always seemed faster to me.

There is also another easy silver rupee in the Bomber's hideout, but you need bombs or the bomb mask to get it.

There's literally no reason not to get the bomb mask during the first three day cycle.

Opening a chest is way faster than killing a bird. We're talking about a 60 second farm vs a significantly longer one which requires grabbing arrows and keeping magic stocked.

There is grass right under the bird for plenty of magic and arrow refills. Besides, grab a chest, run to the bank, song of time, repeat 50 sounds a hell of a lot more boring an tedious than killing a bird. It's a moot point any way. It's just a dumb heart piece.
