Opinions? Are those solid games? Looking for good NES Action RPG's to compliment Zelda.
>>
they're kind of dumb
>>
>>4154740
Elaborate
>>
>>4154737
Yes, if you're looking for nes action rpgs. The only issue I have with Willow is you have a password system for an rpg, rather than a save system. It shouldn't be an issue if you're emulating it, due to save states, but the actually physical medium passwords pissed me off.
>>
>>4154806
How do they compare to Zelda? Cheap spin-off's or actual decent games which have aged well?

And yeah i'll be doing physical - though passwords have never really bothered me so it's whatever.

wow I watched that earlier today

what about star tropics
>>
>>4154890
That's what I based the question off desu - just want to know if the games are good or shit
>>
>>4154775
They play like poipy zelda
>>
>>4154737
Crystalis is arguably better than Zelda. It's certainly in the same tier regardless.
>>
>>4154737
robin hood prince of thieves is a good action rpg. only problem is you have to beat it all in one sitting. there is a cheat to activate a password screen but the set passwords that work take you to places with lesser stats and items some being key items required to beat a area. but luckily if you want to, save states can make it a more pleasant game to pick up where you left off
>>
I remember playing Cystalis and loving it.

As for other good ones, Startropics is also pretty good. Just loved the aesthetics of it, as well as the music.
>>
>>4154737
I never played WIllow, but Crystalis is really good. I would recommend it over zelda, even.
>>
>>4154737
Crystalis isn't as good as Zelda 1 but it's ok. It seems like it'll let you explore freely like in Zelda, but you have to do pretty much everything in a set order, so in practice it just wastes your time while you look for the next thing to do. Also tons of enemies will be immune to your best weapon, so you'll have to constantly pause the game, switch to your next best weapon, and then switch back again for the next enemy.
>>
Crystalis is good but overrated around here.
Willow is complete crap.
Star Tropics is great.

Just my opinion tho desu
>>
Spiritual Warfare is actually a great time, but a walk-through is pretty much mandatory.
>>
Might also be worth your time to check out Faria and Radia Senki, neither gets talked about probably as much as they deserve. Legacy of the Wizard too, though it's more Metroidvania-ish.
>>
>>4154737
>NES
Either say Nintendo Entertainment System or fuck off back to /v/.
>>
>>4158309
>tons of enemies will be immune

You're underleveled if that's constantly happening. While they will take reduced damage, they should still at least be taking some damage.
>>
>>4154737
BRB replaying Crystalis. What a game.

Ya fucking think?

Sorry, dad.

That may be so, but in any case it's a bad mechanic that introduces tedious busywork for no reason.
>>
>>4158649
I think Legacy of the Wizard is closer to any of those other games in spirit, even though it's a platformer. Crystalis, Faria, and Radia are all about following the game's story in a set order until you get to the end. Zelda 1 and LotW are about exploring a dangerous, labyrinthine world while searching for treasures that expand the territory you can conquer.
>>
Willow is more of a historical footnote. It's kinda neat as a game, but I'm not sure you should play it in 2017. If you were a kid in 1989, you'd think it's the coolest shit.

It's got some heavy hitters on the dev team. Kitamura of Mega Man fame, making his last game before leaving Capcom. Tokuro Fujiwara as producer, and Harumi Fujita as composer. It seems they wanted to build a game better than The Legend of Zelda a few years ago. So in many ways it succeeds, but in others fails.

Enjoying summer sport? September will be here before you know it!

I just played both of theses as well as original zelda. My take is that Willow is a mostly empty game of mazes. Willow is also very state forward. and there is some BS about needing to max your level to beat it, if I recall correctly. Those criticisms aside the combat is very well done.
Crystalis is faster paced, with actual enemies in the dungeons. There are some really cryptic parts, like the glasses in my experience.
The leveling systems are similar. The magic is similar and well done in both. However, Crystalis requires leveling of weapons through orbs. Bosses in Crystalis are much better than Willow.
Overall, I found Willow rather boring, while I found Crystalis to be pretty good, especially for an NES game.

Since your character seems to have roller skates on, comat with the sword always felt weird. I felt that it was more of a shooting game actually.

PSX

that chart is bait used for shit posting
>>
>>4158912
>first they came for my PSX now they're coming for my NES

next they'll be coming for the GCN
>>
>>4154737
Willow's okay. Crystalis is leagues beyond anything else on the NES. Could easily be a SNES game aside from the color limitations.
>>
Willow's gameplay is pretty cool, I like how you need to practice with swords in order to be more effective with them, and I love how you can stab or slash with them.
Pity the dungeons aren't good
>>
>>4158649
>neither gets talked about probably as much as they deserve
I've been meaning to play Radia Senki, I swear, but it's been backlogged hard since I have too many games on my plate and won't finish any of them if I start playing any more.
>>
Crystalis is the better game of the pair, but Willow isn't bad, either. The former has a much better developed system, gameplay, and is certainly faster paced compared to a 'played safe' Zeldaish game.

That being said, I've been listening the the Willow soundtrack and I feel like it was... more bombastic? Crystalis has some good tunes but it kinda drops off in quality at some point.
>>
>>4154737

I played Willow recently. It was okay. But I wouldn't actively recommend it. It's kinda boring sometimes.

Crystalis is excellent.
