But Maria is completely optional. Its not like the overall game is hampered by her being playable. Hell with her cutscenes she feels more like a neat joke mode.

So, apart from from the glorious VRC6 expansion audio, which version is actually better?

Of course Graham got seriously nerfed in the international release, but then again, he may have been too OP in the japanese version and they might have modified his abilities simply to balance the gameplay a bit.

What are your thoughts? Which is the "definitive" version, gameplay-wise?

I agree, and It's easier than the NTSC for sure, but I don't think it's too much easier. If you can beat the J version, you can beat the NTSC version pretty easily with a little practice. Also, should be pointed out that the NTSC version made the Holy Water even more OPd than it was in the Jap version, which makes the bosses (minus Drac) easier too.

Tried playing the japanese version on nestopia and bsnes (supposedly plays famicom games)
and it either runs like ass or the music doesn't work.
