Soul Reaver series baby, it has an awesome story too. Beware garbage 3D platforming and avoid the PC version however.

Not retro but if you love the metroid series try Scurge: Hive on the gba/ds. Think metroid but more focus on combat then exploration. It's more about combat as well as managaing time as your character has a infection you need to heal constantly.

Meta posting is never good. If you don't think a thread should be here mark it for moderation and move along. If the janitors see an issue they'll delete it, otherwise it's not your problem. If it really bothers you just hide it.

But posting in the thread about how it shouldn't be here or you don't approve of it will only lead to flame wars. So if your interest is the good of the board, use the systems in place and the mods and janitors to sort it out.

It might be too action focused for you, but the Oasis games, Beyond Oasis and Legend of Oasis might suit you well. It's a bit like Zelda mixed with a brawler.

There's also Light Crusader, which some love and others hate. It's an odd game with a number of issues, but some really cool puzzles.

Another recommendation I can't believe I didn't think of first, one of my all time favorite games which is all about exploration and puzzles.

If you're not afraid of drowning and don't mind learning a new control scheme, Ecco the Dolphin and Tides of Time are truly wonderful.

Its mostly a brawler, with little to no Zelda. It shouldn't even reach any comparisons since you leave the adventure field for a completely linear experience 1/3 into the game.

the note says to put the number of marker switches into the imager in the forechamber at the dock, but i have no idea how to even punch the number into the thing, and i have no idea how to meaningfully interact with anything else. there's the two books with dudes in them that want colored pages, the generator with all the buttons i can punch on, the time-machine looking thing right off the dock, and i don't know how to work any of it

Legend is better in that regard, but Beyond is still a damn fun game and has some neat puzzles and a fun challenge dungeon. I'll grant it's not for everyone but well worth recommending.
