Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon is overrated desu. Let's discuss this superior installment instead. Why did Goroku or Baban never show up again, despite having more interesting gameplay than Yae or Sasuke?
>>4146432
Oedo daikaiten was better.
>overrated
>superior
I feel dark times are coming to the until now peaceful Goemon threads.
I played Akogingu, it wasn't my favorite Goemon game, but it was good. The new characters were weird, I prefer the classic gang.
>>4147889
I agree, this was more enjoyable.
>>4147889
The GG2 rehash with worse graphics and music ripped from GGA? Heck no.
>>4148045
>I feel dark times are coming to the until now peaceful Goemon threads.
All good things must come to an end, I suppose.
>>4146432
Get your facts straight. You have no idea what overrated means. Every single game in this series is underrated to various degrees.
>>4148730
But anon, MNSG is one of the most popular N64 games, even though the platforming is lame compared to Mario, Banjo and Rayman 2.
>>4148767
Nah, it's only popular around here, the average person in the west isn't even aware of it.
Legend of the Mystical Ninja on SNES is the most well-known Goemon game in the west.
>even though the platforming is lame compared to Mario, Banjo and Rayman 2.
Eh, it's up there IMO. MNsG is more adventure than platforming though.
this game be racist af
which is the best one to play first?
>>4149046
They changed the manji blocks to star blocks for the international releases, heh.
Also, wasn't Goemon 2 (SFC) about an invasion of bunny-men, which somehow represented USA?
The Peach Shoguns in MNsG is also kind of a critique to japanese Euroboos.
>>4149050
Legend of the Mystical Ninja on SNES. It's the first one most people played, it's the first of the SNES games, and it's in english. Can't go wrong.
>>4149050
do you want straight up platforming? goemon 2 snes, goemon 4 snes, goemon's great adventure, daikaiten, or dynamite are excellent
do you want adventure/rpg elements? try goemon 3, akogingu, mnsg, or the first two 8-bit games
>>4148774
I think you need to learn how the English language works because something being overrated has nothing to do with how popular it is. People use the word "overrated" when they think people have rated something higher than they think it deserves. People that have never heard of the thing in question don't factor into the equation because they couldn't have possibly assigned a rating to it. I don't know where you got the idea that "rating" means "popular" but I hope you'll find a better English teacher someday.
>>4149072
I think one of the most interesting word in the english language today is the word Fuck.
But that aside, stop shitposting OP.I knew one day you would be the one to start shitposting on Goemon threads. I've seen you post about Akogingu and how it was your favorite for a long time. It was only a matter of time you'd start shitposting and tainting Goemon threads with your opinions. Akogingu is fine though, I'm not saying it's bad.
Sony Goemon games > Nintendo Goemon games
Prove me wrong.
>>4149080
Nah, the 2D ones on PS1 are decent, don't hold a candle to the SFC ones, and the one 3D Goemon game on PS1 is straight up kusoge. I tried to like it, but nope.
TOP FIVE GOEMON GAMES OF ALL TIME:
がんばれゴエモン3獅子重禄兵衛のからくり卍固め (SNES)
がんばれゴエモン!からくり道中 (MSX)
がんばれゴエモンネオ桃山幕府のおどり (N64)
がんばれゴエモン宇宙海賊アコギング (PSX)
がんばれゴエモン東海道中大江戸天狗り返しのい巻 (DS)
>>4149120
Decent list, but where's がんばれゴエモン~でろでろ道中 オバケてんこ盛り~?
And before the first GG or Akogingu, I'd put がんばれゴエモン2 奇天烈将軍マッギネス
>>4149187
>Decent list, but where's がんばれゴエモン~でろでろ道中 オバケてんこ盛り~?
Nothing against that game, I just prefer the more adventure-style Goemons.
>>4146432
goemon Is fucking trash as a whole
>>4149080
Not even close, the first 2D Goemon on the PS1 is basically a worse version of Goemon 3 SFC and the 2nd 2D Goemon is a worse version of Goemon 2 SFC. Shin Goemon PS1 > Shin Goemon GBA, though.Goemon 4 SFC is the best of the series.
>>4149293
get a load of THIS contrarian
>>4149301
I like the various minigames before each boss battle, especially Puyo.
*blocks your path*
>console warriors are now trying to D&C with goemon
JUST
>>4149301
>Shin Goemon
Good thing they put that bastard in his place on the DS Goemon.
>>4149056
This. One of my absolute favorite snes games. Got it in a random bundle of games when a local video store closed down in the mid 90's and didn't know shit about it, but I was hooked.
The 2 n64 games are really good too.
Playing through the jap only ones for the first time. Ganbare Goemon 2 on snes seems really fucking hard for some reason, like the enemy hitboxes are a little on the small side or something. I've tried all the snes ones out, I'm not sure if GG3 will even be possible since it seems to be even more zelda-style than the first game and I don't know any moon
>>4149317
TEMEE YARIYAGATA
>>4149052
>wasn't Goemon 2 (SFC) about an invasion of bunny-men, which somehow represented USA?
The main villain is literally MacArthur.
Any advice on emulating these, or playing non-opiod translations?
I tried playing Mystical Ninja on an emulator and had issues with the HUD on the bottom screen.
>>4150859
Mupen64plus with the glide final plugin handles mn64 and its sequel well.
>>4150874
Thanks anon!
>>4150854
I thought it was supposed to be Waito Piggu Samurai from the 1800s?
>>4150854
I figured it was supposed to be Commodore Perry
>>4148767
Nigga it aint hard to be a popular game on a console with only 2 dozen worthwhile games
>>4152482
>worthwhile
Subjective, I think there's easily more than 2 dozen games worth playing, not even counting 1st party.
The Goemon games are definitely some of the highest notes on the N64's library, but the truth is, majority of people aren't even aware they exist.
I'm tired of seeing people parroting stuff like "N64 only has Mario and Zelda".
>>4149080
N64 Goemon: has Mizuki Ichiro
PS Goemon: Doesn't have Mizuki Ichiro
Veredict: N64 wins.
Really though, even without Aniki within the picture, the N64 games are just better. I don't think the PS Goemon games were made by the regular Goemon team, seems like a B-team's work.
>>4152513
24 good Nintendo 64 games that aren't first party ?!
Apart from the Goemon and Bomberman games (Which I love and still own) I can't think of any other worthwhile N64 games that havent aged horribly.
>>4152635
>Aged
Anyway, that's why I said it's subjective. Your taste isn't relevant to anyone other than yourself.
I've only ever played the first SNES game, and some of MNSG. Which of the sequels is most similar to the first SNES one?
I noticed that most of the sequels have those weird robot fights...didn't really like those, in MNSG. That's really the only thing I'm worried about, outside of the whole "no english translation" thing for the SNES sequels.
>>4152645
Number 4 on snes has a similar town/dungeon formula. If you don't read jap play number 2. It's got the town segments but they aren't as emphasised and the game focuses more on platforming. The second n64 game follows this formula too
>>4152645
Impact battles have been a staple of Goemon games ever since GG2, I think he's been in every Goemon game ever since.
What problem do you have with them? Have you checked the commands and stuff? A lot of people get stuck on them because they don't know how to perform special attacks, and run out of ryo to throw.
>>4152645
Everything on Nintendo platforms aside from the first game on snes has the robot fights unfortunately. They aren't so bad once you actually understand how they work, but I honestly wish impact didnt exist
>console war faggotry
>hating on Impact
Can this thread get any worse?
>>4152681
The series starts and ends with legend of the mystical ninja.
>no robofaggotry
>better artstyle
>>4152702
>robotfaggotry
That's a huge contradiction in 1 word, impressive.
Seriously though, Goemon doesn't deserve shitposting.
>>4152482
>2 dozen worthwhile games
>N64
You're being very generous.
>>4152702
LotMN was dumbed-down, casualised trash. The only good Goemons are the MSX game and the Famicom sequel.
>>4152767
>muh narrative
>muh rpg elements
Casual scum. People like you are why the series devolved into a soap opera where Dr Yang gets a sex change operation or whatever and marries goemon.
Anything after Mr. Goemon is an abomination
>>4152637
Nigga i love the n64 but there definetly isn't 24 good third party games on that console. Could you please name me 24 good third party games.
>>4152793
>Dr Yang gets a sex change operation or whatever
Isn't it shown that Ebisu is actually a girl in one of the games?
>>4152828
yeah the ending of the second one on famicom
>>4152842
We should email Ebisu and ask if that's still canon.
>>4152842
it makes sense, women are just like fat guys.
Incredibly moody until they get fed.
>>4152821
Nigga, I could, but again, subjectivities. You might not enjoy some games I enjoy, and viceversa.
Also, let's keep this thread a Goemon thread, even if OP's intention was to use Goemon as console war bait.
>>4152821
Mystical Ninja 64 / Goemon's Great Adventure
Castlevania 64 / Legacy of Darkness
Bomberman 64 / Second Attack / Hero
Sin & Punishment
Mischief Makers
Bangai-O
Ikaruga Kids
Snowboard Kids 2
Virtual Pro Wrestling 2
Rogue Squadron
Shadow of the Empire
Wonder Project J2
Tetrisphere
Wetrix
Body Harvest
Extreme G
Jet Force Gemini
Perfect Dark
Doom 64
Buck Bumble
>>4153184
Sin and Punishment and Jet Force Gemini are published by Nintendo.
Mischief Makers is technically a 3rd party game, but it was actually published by Nintendo in the west instead of Enix, but it still counts as 3rd party I guess.
>Ikaruga kids
Hehe.
Anyway, there's even more, you're forgetting Ogre Battle 64, Harvest Moon 64, Shiren 2, the japan-only Bomberman game, etc.
Also, with AKI's wrestling games you could actually fill half the list. Same with racing games.
But again, let's not make this thread a console war thread. Let's keep it Goe.
Is Goemon a belt scroller?
>>4153187
Are you sure JFG was published by Nintendo? Because Rare was able to include it in Rare Replay.
Also, wasn't Treasure's S&P co-developed with EAD?
>>4153184
Lots of subpar not worth $50 carts there. Buck bumble? Blast dozer? I could go on l0l
>>4153380
Yes, at least in the town parts.
>>4153424
Well beats me, I was almost sure Nintendo published it, but no, it's a 3rd party published game. Well... it's Rare it's more like 2nd party.
>>4153432
While I'm not defending those games (never played), I don't think price correlates with them being worth playing games. That one bowling game goes for crazy prices and I'm not even downloading the ROM for my everdrive.
>l0l
Nevermind, you're a shitposter.
>>4153432
You best not be talkin shit about Blast Corps, son.
Who is your Goemon-fu?
>>4154934
Overall I'd say Omitsu is the perfect waifu, but lately I've noticed Lily is pretty attractive too.
I've been playing the MSX game, sucks there aren't any bosses but it's cool that the game changes on each loop, more games need to do that with their loops.
>>4152842
That's supposed to be like those folk tales where they get a treasure box but shouldn't open them, then they do and someone always transforms into something else. It has been parodied left and right.
So it's not supposed to be canon. Just a silly scene.
Tfw Goemon 3 translation never ever
>>4146432
>Why did Goroku or Baban never show up again, despite having more interesting gameplay than Yae or Sasuke?
Probably because the PlayStation Goemons were made by a B-team. They're like the Snake's Revenge of the Goemon series.
>>4149120
wrong, it's
GGA N64
GG4 SNES
GG2 NES
GG2 SNES
GGD GBC
>your weapon gets worse every time you get hit
Who actually thought this was a good idea, holy shit
>>4155948
More like your weapons get better as you get powerups and if you fuckup you lose the powerup.
Get good degozaru.
>>4155992
Uh-huh. I can't think of a single other game that does this. I wonder why.
>>4156074
Revenge of Shinobi and Shinobi III, you lose your charged up shuriken if you take a hit.
>>4156074
Every other Shmup, belt brawler and run n gun will take away power ups if you get hit.
>>4156335
Shmups take them away when you die, which makes obvious sense. Which belt brawler does this?
>>4156159
Yes, but you don't lose any function or reach. The shinobi games don't make your weapon completely useless for taking an inevitable hit.
>>4156639
>completely useless
>inevitable
>>4156838
Well yes, it's pretty obvious you're going to get hit if you're new to a game.
>>4149120
>がんばれゴエモン!からくり道中 (MSX)
What's so good about the MSX2 version of Karakuri Douchuu? It's just a crappier version of the Famicom game.
>>4156895
Doesn't the MSX2 version have more levels and a bit better graphics than NES?
