Wouldn't it be perfect if Dino Crisis got the REmake treatment
>>
>>4134609

Maybe they'd make it good this time.

Seriously, it's just kinda bland, with bland environments.
>>
>>4134610

What were you expecting from a survival horror game about dinosaurs set inside a facility on an island?
>>
>>4134609
>another remake
Wouldn't it be perfect if you shut the fuck up
>>
>>4134628
REmake is by and large considered the finest survival horror game ever made, but please do continue to be contrarian. It's not like a remake and the original can't exists alongside each other either.
>>
>>4134650
I mean remake as in remakes/remasters/reboots
>>
>>4134651
Well we're talking about REmake, which improved Resident Evil in practically every way possible
>>
>>4134651
remake: version of an older game remade from the ground up with almost entirely new assets and a new engine. Liberties may be taken with the content and things like balance but they generally still adhere to the original game's narrative. Examples would be REmake, Metroid Zero Mission and Final Fantasy 4 DS.

remaster: a game that has is essentially just an enhanced port of the original. May run at a higher resolution, framerate or have MINOR enhancements like higher texture quality. May have some new content added but the original content is largely left untouched. Examples would be Metal Gear Solid HD collection, Shadow of the Colussus HD and DMC HD collection

reboot: virtually a different game entirely and varies wildly depending on the studio or the vision they have for the reboot. Might not even be the same genre. Almost never actually adheres to the original with the sane name. Examples: DOOM 2016, Tomb Raider 2013, Thief 2013
>>
>>4134670
Correction on my part, DOOM 2016 isn't actually a reboot.
>>
>>4134670
There's also "reimagining", which is even more extreme than a "reboot", changing even the genre from the original game. Example: Fallout 3

>>4134679
Fallout 3 isn't a good example though. It's just a new (at the time) release in the series that happened to change up the formula and gameplay. It isn't based on a prior fallout game. Pic related is a re-imagining of Silent Hill 1.
>>
>>4134609
I always thought dino crisis' puzzles where better than all the RE puzzles. They felt more realistic and fit the industrial themes better.
>>
>>4134686
This, it's sad Dino Crisis isn't as popular as Resident Evil
>>
>>4134683
SM is also better than SH1.
>>
>>4134709
How they handled the story, yes.
Gameplay, boring and redundant
>>
>>4134650

It's not better than RE2.
>>
>>4134786
RE2 is not good survival horror but it is a good game.
>>
>>4134670
>remaster
Vidya faggots misappropriating terms from the music industry is the dumbest fucking thing. See also: "indie", "low-fi", and probably other stupid shit I'm forgetting. I think some wannabe journalist faggots even use "punk". It's so obvious that they wish they were as cool as music critics.
>>
>>4134609
Do people actually like this game or do they just like to talk about it nostalgically? I owned Dino Crisis 1 and beat it. It was okay but really silly and stupid even by RE standards, and the facility was quite repetitive. Half the scenes in the game look like OP's pic--grey, low-detail metal corridors.

I've heard people say that Dino Crisis 2 is a pretty good action game, but do people actually like 1? Isn't it just a not-as-good Resident Evil? Oh, and finally: what's the point of making all your environments realtime 3D if you're still going to use RE-style camera angles half the time?
>>
>>4134859
I love the game, I know it's not as good as resident, but I like the characters and the puzzles
>>
>>4134609
Dinosaurs aren't scary no matter how moody you make the lighting.
>>
>>4135081
Zombies aren't scary either

A vr game would be better

Like "Regina's sweaty cameltoe in your face simulator 2018"
>>
>>4134917
>characters
Why did they send the most dysfunctional, bickering group of soldiers on a highly sensitive mission requiring skillful execution? That bothered me even as a kid. Like, maybe a requirement to be in the special operation squad should be that you don't squabble like an old married couple.
>>
>>4135126
>Why did they send the most dysfunctional, bickering group of soldiers on a highly sensitive mission requiring skillful execution?

It keeps things somewhat interesting
>>
>>4134670
Cool story kid. Care to share your opinion on what OP is talking about?

>>4134847
>other stupid shit
There was another thread where some faggot went on about how "full screen" meant 4:3 and wide screen meant 6:9 because that's what old DVDs called it.
>>
>>4135103
kek
>>
i remember playing this game again a few years ago and got stuck because lack of ammo. is it really hard or was i bad?
>>
DC1 yes,
DC2 no
DC3 hell no
>>
>>4135103
Are we NOT going to talk about "The Bulge", guys?!?!
>>
>>4136086
You were probably trying to kill everything, the game gives you about the right amount of ammo
>>
>>4136103
It's a nice bulge
>>
>>4136103
>"The Bulge", guys?!?!
>i'm totally more that 12 years old
>>
>>4136092
To be honest DC3 is the only one that need a remake because is the only shitty one.
>>
i prefer the second, DC1 was just a RE with dinosaurs but the second has a real identity and a true story. More diversity in environment and gameplay and god damned we kill a giganotosaurus with a fucking ion cannon!
>>
>>4138559
>DC1 was just a RE with dinosaurs
this was, is and always be a very bad meme
>>
>>4138559
>DC1 was just a RE with dinosaurs
OH my misinformed friend

if only you'd seen how many DC1 blind playthroughs crash and burn because people fall for this.

My friend, it's much worse than that. And to this day in the year of our lord + 2017 I still join such streams already knowing the outcome and rarely do I turn out to be mistaken.
>>
>>4138559
>>4138573

i really think, that doesn't mean it was bad, i like it, but they push the vice to reproduce the scene with the scared dog, with a raptor
>>
>>4138559
DC1 was a better RE than any actual RE other than Nemesis tbqh
>>
>>4138603
hum i don't know, i prefer scientific facility than a great mansion but the charm of the first RE, we can't forget it
>>
>>4134609
Why there's not much porn of her?
>>
>>4138603
DC1 is uglier being 3D and not pre-rendered like the RE games.
>>
>>4140690
DC1 one being fully 3D is one of its best achievements, and on top of that it looks perfectly fine to me, PS1 and environments constraints and all that.
>>
>>4140690
doesn't matter when it's more of a survival horror game than any resident evil
>>
am I the only one who didn't like REmake? It really lost what made it special in translation
>>
>>4140713
the only thing I didn't like was the inclusion of lisa trevor, she wasn't scary or threatening and just felt like an unnecessary inclusion
otherwise I find it better than the original, but then again I don't find the original's shitty voice acting "charming"
>>
>>4134847

Indie is not exclusively a music term. It's short for independent. It's a phrase used in many industries.
>>
>>4134670
>narrative over game design
this is the power of nu/vr/
>>
>>4138523

DC 3 was such a disappointment. I remember looking at the cover art in my local Blockbuster, thought "meh, maybe..." and then my heart was broken, followed by the annoyance at the wasted time and money.
>>
>>4140693
I think it was a cheaper way to do the levels than an achievement.
>>
>>4141147
No, it's not exclusively for music, but it's really obvious it gained traction in vidya because of the hip and cool connotations from indie music and indie movies.

No one felt the need to call Myst or Doom "indie" titles back when they were made and released. It's a term that only got popular when it was useful for amateurs hawking their low-budget crap online and convincing people their games were more artistic and pure than big, evil studio games created in a boardroom.
>>
>>4141227
Who are you quoting?
>>
>>4142162
>No one felt the need to call Myst or Doom "indie" titles back when they were made and released.
Because the AAA industry of the early 90s was not the AAA industry of today.
>>
Yes because it has always looked like shit.

>using 3D environments instead of pre-rendered
>game plays exactly like a pre-rendered game but the camera pans sometimes

kek
>>
>>4134859
My biggest disappointment was the fact that we didn't get to explore Ibis island more, and that there wasn't enough variety with the dinosaurs. Most of the time you just fight the raptors. And Ibis island was full of jungle, why not show us some of that too? Too much of the game stays confined in the boring, ugly-looking facility.

But the puzzles were good, some were even brilliant. Much better than what Resident Evil ever gave us. And being tactical in the use of items and environment was a great way to enhance the feeling of survival. It was extremely satisfying to realize for the 1st time that you can make the fights easier, or indeed, even avoid them completely by using the laser barriers as shields against the dinos where available.

Overall, I still enjoy DC2 more. Taking us to the jungle was a good call, DC2 environments are so much more satisfying and better looking, and I also enjoy the larger variety of dinos and the guns used to blast them that you're offered. DC2 was the point where the series found it's own identity, DC1 still feels too much like a clone of Resident Evil.
>>
>>4134610
Agreed. The dinosaur concept and how it improves on the RE formula on a basic level is great. But everything else is very bland, like the setting, story, and puzzles; so the game ends up getting boring by the end.
>>
>>4142574
The puzzles are better than in most RE games.

Except maybe for the key puzzles, but I don't mind solving them.
>>
Never played any of RE games - should I go straight for the REmake or is there value in playing the original first?
>>
>>4144414
There IS value in the first. I recommend starting there than moving on to ReMake, they are different enough to be a unique experience. I personally prefer the original..somehow it is more creepy to me. But see for yourself!

You're very fortunate to be able to play these games for the first time. I suggest maybe playing original as one character (Jill or Chris) and REmake as the other one. Normally Jill is recommended for new players, but since REmake has superior boob physics, I think Jill should be saved for that version.
>>
>>4144414
>>4144546
Jill is easier in the original and Chris is easier in the remake.

I would play REmake on PS3/PS4/X360/X1/PC first if you are not used to tank controls.
