The game has a fearsome reputation as a hard game but it's really not. You only need to learn patterns. The only really hard part of the game is that one jump near the end of stage 6-2 (I believe) that even AVGN mentions. That jump prevented me from finishing the game as a kid, since I just couldn't pass it consistently and the times I did, I got crushed by the last boss because I didn't have enough practice on it.

Don't listen to this. If you play 1 and 2 then japanese 3 you'll be disappointed at how easy it is

but it's so fun tho

I love it when a game just kicks my ass repeatedly but you cannot stop playing it because the gameplay is so fucking good and spot on

people like to meme about "ohhh hardest game! hardest NES game!"....it really isn't. With just a few playthroughs, I could make it through most of the game without trouble.

There are a few really obnoxious parts of the game, yes, but as a whole, it's really nowhere near as hard as people make it out to be.

Especially due to having infinite continues. The game is only over when you make it over.

Playing it for the first time here, I definitely agree (and also agree with >>4133156 )
I got through everything in Ninja Gaiden fine until 6-2. It was difficult, but it's much simpler once you get a pattern down.
I've been stuck on 6-2 for a day now though. That one part is outright bullshit.

NG has become a meme nowadays. Only stage 6 is frustrating but if you concentrate it's not so hard.
