The 90s were a great time to be alive for a computer guy. Everyone thought you were a wizard and overlooked pretty much all flaws you had just because you were paid so well and it was difficult to find someone good in your field. I'm still riding the wave of "The IT guy is a guru you don't question" at work, though eventually they had to restrict my wearing of shorts to Fridays only.
