I just started this game, how should I set up my controls and any tips for beginners.
Don't pick any of the language skills (daedric, impish, nymph, etc) they're a waste. Plan on saving a lot because you can get stuck. Understand that bugs were a part of life, you'll encounter broken shit, try to not get frustrated.
If you still have even a slightly active imagination you'll enjoy Roleplaying in DF. It's great.
Since its procedural generation there is repetition, but, honestly people who complain about it haven't played the game enough to appreciate just how much detail went into the unique parts. You'll find hand placed shit all the time.
Regional flavors are fun, combat is generally fun (better than MW, in my opinion), and the game is big, fun, unique, and totally breakable.
I hope you enjoy.

1) Loot cemeteries and tombs. They are small dungeons with few enemies and a fair bit of loot.
2) Grab a wagon asap. That extra space is really nice.
3) Save often. Save before taking a quest and have a secondary save slot.
For controls I'd recommend Q for spellbook, E for jump and F for ready weapon. Tweak the rest of the controls as you wish.
Daggerfall is by far my favorite TES game.

not OP, but I've heard that there is a bug that makes things in your wagon disappear. if it happens to quest items, it breaks the quests, and this can break even the main questline.
I just started a new save, holy fuck I am having trouble

It is a hard game, especially at the start. Save and rest often. After Pirates' Hold it should get a little easier.

I believe that is dependent on the version you play, but I'm not 100% sure. I picked up the GOG version in a bundle and so far it seems a bit more stable although I think they patched the disease stack overflow.

I played it a decent amount five years ago, the things that are getting me are, one, lack of an ability to heal without resting, and two, finding ways through the dungeons, jesus fuck, it's literally beyond a megadungeon, dungeons in Daggerfall are ultradungeons
>complaining about difficulty in daggerfall
you probably have trouble with jrpgs too

Yeah, it really makes you feel the pressure of those quest time limits. Grab a healing spell and a teleport spell. For navigation just go in a single direction and learn to use the map.

Not him but what hand placed stuff is there besides the main quest in Daggerfall?
