Fun game. I used to love how bosses would more or less ambush you from around the corner. I haven't played in so long though that I can't remember how many were random, or if any were at all?

Plot bosses aren't random, but after a certain point in the labyrinth the Kaiserkrab boss is the one that may randomly show up around the corner as a miniboss/strong enemy. If I remember correctly this tortoise inside an eggshell may also roll down a really long corridor at random, and this brick (maybe a golem?) may also fall down areas with holes in the ceiling and attack
This game had a great presentation, most Shining games do. The final boss was really cool.

Good game, one of my all-time favorites. I love dungeon-crawling in general, but Shining In the Darkness pushed all of the correct buttons for me.
