>Actraiser

It sped up the time in the Sim mode which is a big improvement. It moved some of the music around, which I'm okay with. It also changed the name of the villain and hero, from "Satan" and "God" to "Tanzra" and "The Master". This was probably censorship based, but having unique name for the Demon is better than generic Satan. JP cover art is way better than USA.

Least favorite:

>Kunio-Nekkestu series

Half the games were never localized, and the ones that were, all had separate names. Thus the series could never gain any traction in the West as they were all unrelated games. River City Ransom, Super Dodge Ball, Renegade were early titles. River City Ransom moved the location from Tokyo high schools, with teenage delinquents to the American city of "River City", and changed the outfits fo the cast from stylish school uniforms to jeans and T-shirt. I could live with them transporting the story to America IF they had all the same series name. Character also have different names in each. This means that all future attempts to revive the series are stuck with "River City" as the name as that's the most famous incarnation of it.

>Actraiser
You completely omitted how they toned down enemy damage CONSIDERABLY and made spikes that used to be one hit deaths in the Japanese version just normal hazards. And no, playing in professional mode does not restore these changes.

Soul Blader became Soul Blazer. I get this change since to the Japanese "Blader" is meant to refer to a guy with a blade, but it sounds to an English speaker more like a guy on roller blades. Also one of the rarer cases where the Western box art is way better looking .

Grill at the end had her anime art style face changed to a more Westernized style.

I liked all the changes to western Dynamite Headdy more than the original japanese version. Except maybe for the difficulty.
Th level puns, the spotlight energy bar, the graphic changes: all were better to me.

Right looks better.

Right looks like a man in a wig.

Mother aka earthbound beginnings. Despite the rampant censorship they added an actual ending. One that was used in all subsequent re-releases.

Least Favorite:
Dragon Warrior. Beyond the title, crosses were changed to pentagrams, olde english which can make reading a damn chore at times in an already cryptic game. It does get very minor points for adding a few facing sprites.

Right looks like a real grown woman instead of that pedo shit.

>>4113534

A badly drawn grown woman*

Adding a save battery was a pretty nice touch. Entering a password every time you want to play dragon quest can get tedious.
>>
>>4113534
Yeah, clearly adult women with tons of arm muscle definition are pretty much the epitome of pedophilia.

>>4113676
Where the fuck are you seeing muscle definition in >>4113280

>Japs drawn their pedo fantasy

I thought it was because people would read it as "bladder".

>Also one of the rarer cases where the Western box art is way better looking .
I think they're pretty even. The American art is simple and moody but also makes it look kinda like a generic Castlevania wannabe or something, and the classic anime artwork of the JP boxart is lovely.

>>4113280
Now THIS is a shitty change.

My favorite is probably the N64 Ganbare Goemon games.

The second one lost it's sweet intro video but I love the effort put into retaining the Japanese names and culture, though I guess the games are so overwhelmingly Japanese that it would've been kinda hard to pull the "No no no, this Japanese guy is definitely named Steve and lives in Johnston Town next to Mount Tallsnow!"
>>
>>4113687
You know that's a man, right? In both regions.
>>
>>4113694
Not to mention the western version of Mystical Ninja had bugfixes and shit to boot.

The only thing that could really be considered "censorship" was making Wise Man collect car magazines instead of hentai mags, but that could be seen as an improvement too.
>>
I thought the script they used in the GBA remake of FFV was pretty good.
>>
>>4113709
All of the GBA remakes had good scripts, who thinks otherwise?
>>
I'm probably in the minority here, but I think the western title screen of Castlevania IV it's much cooler than the japanese one. I don't really like the dumb blood driping and the neon colors. Also I prefer the green goo of level 7 rather than blood. They also improved the game font too.

And talking about gore, I believe the gore removal in Golden Axe arcade was the right move:

Do Persona Revelations
>>
>>4113709
On that note, PSX FFV just makes me scratch my head because at the time Square was making good translations in all their other games, and then THAT happened.
>>
>>4113709
But there's no Y Burn in the GBA version.

The only game I can think of where I know the international version is fully supperior is not retro honestly.

Still, ther are some changes I do like. In Breath of Fire IV Scias was originally constantly drunk and would slur his words because of this. In the US version instead he simply has a lisp abd rarely speaks because of that. The idea of this stoic mercenary having a lisp is pretty charming and honestly I have to say I prefer it to him being constantly drunk.

Nintendo World Cup is much more well known.
