Why were text based adventure games superior to casual point n' click adventure games?
In a text adventure you can move as fast as you can type, whereas in King's Quest clones you have to spend time moving a guy around the screen
Personally I like Shadowgate style. Still has graphics but no guy to move around

Because Infocom got over their early obsession with unfair puzzles pretty quickly, while Sierra just kept cranking them out.
>If you had picked up the butter twelve screens ago, this anvil wouldn't have fallen on your head! LOL!
Well, okay, there was some of that in a few of the later Infocom games (Hitchhiker's is probably the worst offender in this regard) but overall they got better faster.

In the graphical ones like Demon's Forge you had to wait for the scene to slowly render itself every time you moved. That shit got old REALLY fast.

Yeah I played a couple Scott Adams games with that kind of graphics drawing in the Atari 8-bit versions. Probably better to just play the text-only versions.

FUCK YEAR PIRATE ADVENTURE!
I haven't thought of that for ages. That's one of the ones I beat on my Vic-20. I almost got to the end of Voodoo Castle, but hit some kind of crash bug that rendered my save useless. (I later finished it with a walkthrough in the 90s, just so I could see the end I'd been denied)

My little brother and I played through Pirate Adventure together when we were kids.
We also had Adventureland but that was harder and we never got very far in it.

>Infocom text games
Almost makes me want to replay Zork... or at least Zork Zero. Though the later Myst-like Zorks are pretty good for their own reasons.

Trinity is probably their best game, actually. Or maybe A Mind Forever Voyaging.

That's not text based, just a graphic adventure with a text parser.

I liked finding all of the Sierra death animations and bantz. Best most fun part of the game.
