I bought the game from the bargain bin just for the music. Despite the gameplay being meh, the music alone made it better. I think it uses the Genesis sound chips well, which very few can do.

As far as I understand it:

Genesis uses a FM chip to perform live synthesis of sounds. It is much higher bitrate and sounds "crisper," but it is also harder to use and the results often sound more "primitive" and robotic.

Systems like the SNES use pre-recorded sound libraries. The result is technically lower quality, highly compressed sounds, but it is much easier to simply record and sample a sound than it is to attempt to recreate it with a synthesizer. It can sound much better if you know what you're doing, but you've got to be a Tim Follins-tier synth wizard.
