Is Bubsy really shit or is it just a stupid meme?

The first bubsy isn't terrible, just mediocre. The second is pretty awful, and we all know how the third turned out.

First 2 Bubsi are good games. Bubsy 1 has insta death while Bubsy 2 has more health. Atari Jaguar Bubsy is a romhack or Bubsy 1. Bubsy 3D is a legit good game once you learn the tank controls. I wish Bubsy turned faster. I am excited for the shitty unity remake that just got announced. I've loved that cat since I rented Bubsy from blockbuster for snes. Back in those days devs made their games difficult to prevent kids from beating them on rental. I stole this image from google. My Bubsy collection is nowhere near complete.

It's bad, not the worst game ever though. It's like a 4-5/10, just mediocre as fuck.

Bubsy 1 and 2 aren't that bad what garnered all the hate was how hard the company responsible for his games tried to push him as the next big talking animal with tude mascot before his games even had a chance to impress people. It's what he represented at the time that caused the backlash not necessarily the actual quality of the games.

A lot of /vr/ wasn't alive when Bubsy 1 & 2 were released, so they don't understand the context of their quality.

I mean one of his criticisms is that he's too "90's tude". Compared to Sonic with his literal edgy spines? To "Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel"? To Rocky Rodent with his crazy punk haircuts?

Early 90's platformers were like the FPS boom of the mid to late 90's. Bubys 1 & 2 are comparable to being the Shadow Warrior or Redneck Rampage of their era.

Bubsy has been a forced meme from the beginning. If you want a good anthro mascot platformer to actually play, check out Rocket Knight. If you want a furry character to appreciate ironically well that's what Bubsy is for.

I like that Bubsy is more laid back than the usual Japanese platformers. Sometimes you want to disconnect from the serious gaming challenges with a more casual and relaxing game. Bubsy was exactly that, in a context of tough-ass platformers overload.

I want to rip your head off and take a shit down your throat, but it's considered poor form to murder the mentally ill.

Shadow Warrior's demo had more heart and soul than all three Bubsy games put together, you crazy little furfag.

The first game is a lot of fun. One thing I like is enemies do not respawn so you can clear out difficult areas. You also get a lot of lives.

The game ramps up in difficulty around the Wild West level which requires you to be really careful of all kinds of hazards.

The 2nd one was kind of crappy. I hated how you couldn't duck and the levels didn't seem as nicely designed.

The Atari Jaguar Version uses the engine for 1 since you can duck and glide at the same speed. It just has a retarded difficulty and some enemies always kill. Those fucking bees fly at you before you see them half the time. and I think they are in every fucking level.

I never played the 3D one so I can't comment on it

It is something of a meme. The first game is pretty decent, though anyone claiming it to be a masterpiece is certainly pulling your leg. The sequels are varying levels of not as good. Bubsy 2 sounds like an improvement on paper but I run out of patience with it before I run out of lives.

Acclaim is owned by a chinese company now and this new Bubsi game is being developed by Black Forest Games who made Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams. Ugly 3d models in that game as well. Im pretty sure the new bubsy game will be mediocre. It is Bubsy's destiny to be considered mediocrity but his games arent that bad.

Nah that *was* going to be a Bubsy reboot (that even got the creator's approval) but then the new Bubsy reboot sprung out of nowhere so they changed all the branding so now it's Spanky instead of Bubsy. The thing actually gets quite a bit of fanart mostly from furries, no surprise.

The early 90s was a time where we were bombarded by these cool looking animal dudes who surfaced in every medium of captialist pop culture; video games, t-shirts, cups, underwear, dental hygiene, anti-masturbation ads, etc. Accolade thought they were going to hit big when they dumped these games on us, but Bubsy became just another anthropomorphic failure of that age. Trust, for as many successful anthromorphs we had back then, there are a thousand more floating around in a cesspool of shit better left forgotten from the '90s.

The first two 2D Bubsy games are 5/10 games. Bubsy is too big, he moves too fast, he's too slippery and it's just sort-of indicative of all the mascot platformers of the nineties.

Every little difference that makes Sonic better, makes Bubsy worse. It just gets every gameplay design decision wrong.
